Just came home from voting for the first woman American president! 🎉🙋♀🥳 Settling in to watch some Lianne then reading "The Power" by Naomi Alderman. Edit: Well, nevermind. 😑
@@michelleschafer8882 I'm perfectly fine with the outcome. I won't come crying when prices drop and there are more jobs. I won't come crying when I can keep my guns.
Enjoy your reading and craft escape. This is the perfect time of year. Most years my late husband and I ran away to Cape Cod with bags of books, knitting, and snuggly throws.
The Outsiders!! I didn't realise I have read this book until you started to explain the synopsis because the Spanish title is completely different. It isn't what I usually read but it was compulsory in my literature class in high school and I enjoyed it a lot!!
I really hope you like The Underhistory! Kaaron Warren is an Aussie author from my city, Canberra, and my largely old lady book club will be reading the book next year. One of our members knows Kaaron so we're hopeful that she'll be able to come to our discussion.
My TBR for the rest of the year is the little pile of books I impulse-borrowed from the library instead of reading my owned TBR. My goal as we head into the start of 2025 is to get back to reading my owned TBR - I still have a decluttering goal to reach and it is getting harder because occasionally free books enter my home and don't leave! (I'm on a book buying ban - the ban failed to account for free books coming my way lol)
I have a very distinct memory of reading The Outsiders while walking home from school, head down and not noticing what is happening around me. One of my all-time favorites! I'm currently reading The Will of the Many by James Islington. It's not my normal genre but I've heard such good things that I wanted to try it. I'm enjoying it so far.
How to become the Dark Lord is supposedly a duopoly, and having read it, I think it works pretty well on its own if you don’t love it, but also makes sense to have a second book…
Main thing on my TBR is continuing series so I don’t have to do any more rereads! Main ones are Dark Heir, Wisteria, Kingsbane and The Bands of Mourning.
Hello, my name is Christina and I'm new to your chancel and the book I'm reading are Chicken Boy by Frances Dewell Layover by David Bell How Snowball Stole Christmas by Kristen Mckanagh Sea Creatures by Daniel Susanna and Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Losimand The Hating Game by Sally Thome. This is my December TBR.
also doing the Queen's Thief readalong! what else is on my list??? I had such a big TBR from Oct that didn't happen, so I feel adrift. what is time? what are books? lmao. but another great TBR vid from you and hopefully we all have a beautiful end of the year reading stretch.
How to become the dark lord... sounds so good but I was so extremely disappointed and dnf-ed it after an hour when I realized I am actually dreading to pick it back up and I'd rather do anything else than listen to that 😅 Better luck to you I guess 😆 On my end of the year tbr are definitely The Ninth House and The Night Circus :D
The must-read-before-the-end-of-the-year books for me are Exiles by Jane Harper and Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune. I’ve hit my official goal of 80 books, but I’m unofficially aiming for 100 lol.
I'm trying to catch up on reading subscription box books by the end of the year, my goal was 20 and i think I've read 4 😅 New goal is at least 12 which is VERY DOABLE if I actually stick to it.
Must get to Fitzalong, of course. Starting the Faith and the Fallen with Becca. Empire of the Damned, Wicked, The Queen by Nick Cutter, An Academy of Liars. Plus whatever else I add 🤭🤭
When I sat down to review all my goal books and TBR veterans from the year...I realized it was about 50 books long 😅 And that's just from my physical TBR, not counting library holds or KU releases. So I'm attempting to focus as best I can on books that are part of series I'm reading, and then leave some space for mood reading from my standalone list. But while I am confident I'll hit my book count goal of the year, I am not as sure about this list when I consider page count, lol... -Black Powder War by Naomi Novik -Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson -Longshadow by Olivia Atwater -Hollowpox by Jessica Townsend -The Bitter Twins by Jen Williams -The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb
I don't have a proper tbr for December yet, but here's my November tbr: Please don't hug me by Kay Kerr, Star daughter by Shveta Thakrar, The fascinators by Andrew Eliopolus and Nothing to see here by Kevin Wilson. 3 are books I've had for ages and 2 are kindle books, and I really need to use my kindle more. I just started my first ever job (Christmas temp job, but better than nothing) so I've been making good use of my kindle on transport so far, and I hope I can keep that up 😅.
💯I also have the outsiders on my longer general TBR. My only short term goals are reading A Gentleman in Moscow and finishing both the Winnowing Fire Trilogy by Jen Williams (one book left) and The Legend of the Condor books (3 books left 😢). Your TBR is much more ambitious!
I just wanted to ask if you've read any Naomi Novik. She has a couple of excellent standalone fantasy novels. I've actually exceeded my own expectations this year by reading more than 30 books 📚😊
I believe in you! I'm not sure if I have specific books but I just really want to get some of the stacks out of my apartment before the urge to yeet them all out the window makes my brain explode lol. I think I need to pick one challenge for the rest of the year or something because I keep thinking of more things that sound fun but then not reading. Isn't that just the way? I think I'm feeling a little slump-ish and haven't been reading as much. That said, I still finished 10 books in October but the mojo was low. Maybe the upcoming darker, cozier months will inspire me. To be continued....happy reading!
I have only the last two last books left in The Queen's Thief serie so I will try to join the readalong in January and February. I am in the biggest slump ever since the beginning of fall because I've changed career and I'm currently in school/training for my new job and it's exhausting. So, of course, I've picked up Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell... My goal is to finish that book before the end of the year.
I've seen more and more people reading "The Outsiders." I'm surprised by this - I read this in high school as part of our English class. I think it's "banned" now though. I loved this book, loved the movie and will have my daughter read this.
I pre-ordered how to become a dark lord or die trying and then when I got it and saw that it was first in a series. so disappointed I haven't picked it up
I realize I belong to your chicken coop because I'm such a clucker when I know something horrible lies ahead in a book. LOL Great TBR! I added The Underhistory to mine. I'm on an Ursula K. Le Guin kick so I want to finish the Earthsea series by December. I have the audiobooks loaded so I can flip back and forth between audio and eyeball. Let's see how it goes.
The outsiders is one of my favourite books of all time and the movie is a good adaptation but be warned it is is a hard read. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read it and I also cry. There are a few triggers in it
I actually ended up DNF-ing "Til Death Do Us Bard" lol For one, I didn't like the way the main male character treated his ex-wife. Second, I didn't really vibe with the way the bog witch(?)/necromancer character kept sexually harassing the main lead, for "comedy". Maybe it gets better/subverted later, but I've got far too many books I'm in the middle of and that I want to read before the end of the year, so DNF it will stay.

Yeah, not the outcome we hoped for.

Enjoy your autumnal stay at the ocean. I’m a bit jealous.
I'm currently reading The Mad Ship and I'm so excited for the liveshow! I hope you have a great time on your cozy trip ❤
Enjoy that week of rest and relaxation and good luck with your TBR!

I loooove The Outsiders. I teach it and my students love it!
My priority book is Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse! It finally came out this year and I've been putting it off but want to read it soon.
I enjoyed the Under History, but it left me wanting something. I'll be interested to see what you think of it xx
