    That sucks, I'm a Ford and GM truck guy . I was thinking of updating to a newer truck to replace my older 2 but decided to do a couple thousand of tidying up/ leak fix updates to my 99 7.3 diesel super duty and keep that as it's paid for . Yeah it's got 560.000 KM's on it but it don't have all theses issues the newer ones do with emission and other expensive motor problems, when the warranty runs out. There are a lot of cheap trucks out here in Manitoba that need motor work and they are only 8-10 years old ! Hopefully yours is fixed now. Thanks for the video. Take care

    Unfortunately Ford has no fixed for this yet, there was a TSB released for it and when that doesn't work they come back and say it's a normal sound LOL. So bottom line is they don't have a fix at this time. I know at least four people who have had their engines torn apart and cam phasers replaced and the sound still comes back

    • @JohnDiMartino
      @JohnDiMartino 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cheeznhard it is normal there’s no damage being done , oil samples have shown no excess wear metals and no ones lost an engine from it. The 3.5 gen 2 has same phasers makes same noises. No damage from it.

      I've known more than a few people with either engine that have had long blocks replaced. Only time is truly going to tell us if it's causing damage or not. Regardless it sounds like crap coming from a bran new truck.
      We're not talking about possible damage within 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 miles, we're talking about damage after significant amount of miles.
      The fact that Ford came out with the TSB for it means it's absolutely not normal, they don't release tsb's for the hell of it.

    It’s normal , it’s the normal cleaning of the vtc solenoids . FYI the 5.0 is a problematic engine in the f150 , it was a great engine in 2011/2017-. The gen 3 2018 and newer has issues with phaser noises , plasma cylinder finish which results in oil burning , ticks , and piston slap . Just be happy it’s only a noise. There’s a flash to change when the noise happens .

    Even if you are not having that problem, get the dealer to check your truck to see if it has been updated. my 17 f250 was not and in -50 weather it flooded itself. dealer had it towed and flashed and engine flushed and was good to go again.

    In older vehicles, timing chains never needed replacing or attention. Most of the time they would last the life of the vehicle and never rattle. As someone else in the comments has said, new vehicles are built to break. If your vehicle lasts forever then the dealerships aren't making money.

    Im not trying to be a GM fanboy or anything but really I can't stand how Ford can't get their stuff right with the truck engines, every single truck engine they have made with vvt has issues, every one of them. It's unbelievable. Any 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 could handily run rings around any engine Ford has made in the last 20 years

    Stop buying Ford!! I'm not brand loyal. I work on cars and trucks all the time, i see how each brand of car and truck are engineered and built! Thats where i get my opinion of each manufacturer. Go buy a Tundra or a GM truck with a V8

    • @bugtkz9153
      @bugtkz9153 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ed H. GM still builds a better, more simply built truck than Ford. But, his best bet would be a Tundra. My daily driver is a 300,000 mile Tacoma, with the original drive train.

      Only had a couple issues with my 08 Tundra. The rear axle bearings at 50k, front differential howl/growl which led to a total front differential replacement at 77k...at about 100k both of the issues had resurfaced again. Sold the truck at 104k wasn't about to spend $7k in repairs 2 years after those problems were fixed the first time. I believe 2010-2012 they had those problems corrected.
      My 2005 Toyota Tundra has been trouble free other than regular maintenance and had to have the AC compressor clutch replaced last year.

    that is the vct actuator for the variable cam timing it will do that until the truck warms up. perfectly normal. during test these have screens and were getting clogged up. they way they remedied it is to have it actuate extremely fast during warm up under deceleration to help the screen stay clean . if yours is doing it all the time you can have an updated applied to change to were it only does it until truck is at operating temperature. mine has 30k miles and runs like a top. the sky isnt falling your truck is fine

    • @garyhelms3467
      @garyhelms3467 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You, sir, sound like the Service dept at the Ford Garage. It is NOT normal no matter how many times you say it. Maybe it is NORMAL because of bad engineering or something but it is NOT normal that this relatively new engine should have this problem.

      @BrianBourgeois- 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garyhelms3467 i know your a ford engineer and know what you are talking about. think about it logically if it was truly a problem mechanically a update would not change the behavior, but the update does change the behavior so how could this be? ill tell you why because i know what i'm talking about. this isn't 1970 things aren't thrown together anymore.

  • @CapeAnnImages
    @CapeAnnImages 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not the timing chain it's the bearings in the radiator fan clutch which spins freely and doesn't engage the fan until the engine warms up. Normal.

    I read a article on the internet the other day saying Ford is loosing confidence with it's customers ever since it had oil issues. people are starting too turn away from them. also i have a Jeep Wrangler and my brother in law wanted too trade me his f-150 so i asked my mechanic and he said no do not do it. due too the fact Ford is building it's engines with aluminum heads on cast iron blocks and the headers on each side are failing and costing 700 dollars a piece to replace. so i will keep my Jeep. but i will never again buy a chevy and that is a different story as too why.

    5.0 is a junky ass engine now that the Gen 3 has came out. Was pretty solid up until 2018. My Dad has a '16 5.0 with no issues. But then Ford decides to put a wire arc coating on the cylinder walls and then suddenly there is an influx of engines with piston slap, oil consumption, scored cylinders and this weird rattle upon deceleration. Have a friend that bought one. Junk from day one. I was a Ford guy for quite a few years and bought one 9 years ago, which was a 2007 F-150 with the 5.4 (still have it) and it's at 161,000 miles and *knock on wood* trouble free. I was thinking about getting a 2018+ 5.0, until I learned of these problems they are now having. Not anymore. I got lucky with my truck, but I am ending it with Ford, before I get bit.

    Bill, trade in the Ford for a Toyota, so much more reliable and not as much chinese junk parts and deliberately in-built failures. Ford just isn't Ford anymore. Go Toyota. I have a 2006 Toyota with 387,000 miles, The engine has NEVER EVER skipped a beat - regular oil / filter changes and timing belt when needed, thats it.
