I was born and raised in Lubbock, and grew up eating Stubb's BBQ at least once a month. Lubbock lost an icon and a living legend when he closed and moved down to New California (Austin). And that was the beginning of the end. While in Lubbock (1968 - 1984), all of Stubb's cooked meats were superb and the BBQ sauce was to die for. Nowdays the sauce is good, very good actually, but not as good as it was when it came from that old cast iron pot on the big stove in his restaurant on East Broadway Avenue.
My friend in Texas sent me a bottle of Stubbs in our joking battle between Texas and Wisconsin products. I don’t buy any other bbq sauces. The variety and quality is fantastic. Yay Stubbs!
“Stubb” created his barbecue sauce in a wooden barrel located behind the joint. He used a boat oar to stir it. It was a well known place for up-and-coming country-western and black entertainers who expected very little pay on a Sunday night. They liked Stubb, and they liked the atmosphere. The entertainers only received tips and a plate of barbecue and a beer. Some of the entertainers would just drop in unannounced and perform, including Linda Ronstadt and Johnny Cash. The Lubbock white stone building is gone now, but there is a statue of Stubb where the building was located. It’s just a few miles east of the Texas Tech campus.

I have been using this brand & still love it.
Love the stuff !!!
Next time I shop at H-E-B I’m buying stubs from here on out and addition to my hot sauces. Lol the first barbecue sauce I’ll buy continuously.
I’m gonna check tomorrow and see if they can let me schedule a gig in the middle of the month when my buddy Gabby comes here from Oklahoma.
Love the under the cap quotes along with the taste
My favorite sauce, by far. Awesome dude, awesome food, awesome town (Lubbock, that is).
Stubb’s Beef Marinade is the best!! I my family demands it every time I do a tri-tip.
Been using Stubb's for a while. Good stuff.
Popped open a bottle of Stubbs for my first time ever. Oh man. That's some really good stuff.
I got the Hickory Bourbon flavor. After this is gone, I will gen another flavor till I try them all.
Thanks for the education!
Love Stubb's! The only sauce I found that you can just use, no doctoring needed.
Appreciate the history lesson quite informative.
Good thing this is a positive story. Stubbs is a fixture at my house (usually multiple sauces).
That BBQ sauce is crazy good!
