I have wanting to start blacksmithing for several years but after watching your videos for the last several months I finally ordered my new Anvil 2 days ago thank you
I really like the hinges. I also like the fact that both hinges are not identical. You switching to take care of your needs, will be a nice change because it will show us where your taste lies. We will get to see more ornamentation than you can do when making things for an unknown consumer.
❤ John you're very first video you ever published on TH-cam was making hinges. And I had subscribed to you way back then when you had somebody else make that video for you. I've been with you ever since I have been with you when you made some other channels and I subscribe to those and those came and went but this one still go strong. As a fellow blacksmith I really appreciate the way you always educate and inspire
Thank you very much, I hope someone can learn from what I have achieved and I am still learning too but I want to share my knowledge for free with anyone interested.
Sorry this is wrong John, I did not and should take back what I wrote I admire all other blacksmith workers I thought this was the TH-cam that Scott did on me, sorry
I love the direction you’re going in John. As a blacksmith it is rewarding to be able to decorate the shop with my own work, but the better pieces tend to go away with happy customers. It is always a pleasure to make something for myself.
In 200 years they’ll be selling your works of art with your time stamp on it! Truly beautiful work you do-love all the content and inspiration you give everyone!
These hinges are inspiring! The problem with making fancy, special hinges is that people make them too fancy and they then look bling, these hinges have just the right balance for a really special door, as they would have been made in the 17 th century for a Chateau. Very many thanks for posting this video! Chris B.
I'm really looking forward to watching you express yourself in a deeper way. Even if that means fewer videos, I think they will be very entertaining. Thanks John!
Really like that you don't mind doing the out of the ordinary. I've started saying you are courageous. I wanted to mention that I purchased one of the high frequency induction heaters probably because I saw your explanation of the benefits. However I live in California and I'm pretty sure that our legislators are not going to try to perform their job to get us lower costs on fuel so I'm expanding my choices. Thanks for all the information you put on these posts. Serb
Excellent work! The decorative marks around the screw holes are very reminiscent of the broad arrow used to mark government property throughout the British Empire.
Very nice video, really shows what is possible by making your own hardware and embracing your own creativity. Looking forward to seeing the finished door installed, please make a video of you making the door as well.
40 years at the anvil and I have always date stamped any special job for the very reason you mentioned. Top notch video, Mr. John!! Cheers from East Tennessee, Jamie Tyree
Fantastic job. I’m in the process of building my new workshop. This has made me think that I should make some hinges for the door, it’s in the garden so the wife wants it to look nice. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍
Wonderful video! Thank you for demonstrating techniques that can be used in so many ways. Also, your "personal" projects will inspire us to work on our own.
Excellent work John. Ive been away for a while and its good to see your work again. I just found your woodworking channel and am waiting with baited breath for the video on building the door for these hinges. Bravo!
These hinges and the Yellin inspired gate are your best work so far, IMHO, and show your capabilites so much better than axes, hammers and shop tools. I hope you'll do much more in this vein. Thanks, John!
This is the kind of stuff I like to see. Great looking hinges! Believe it or not I would love to make something like that for my hen house. Being older I don't have the flexibility to crawl inside to clean it out, so I designed one that one hole side opens up. Problem is, there are not any good hinges designed to hold the doors weight. Something similar to those would be just the ticket.
Those are wonderful John. I really like the hinge side of the strap. The asymmetry with the scrolls is something I wouldn’t have thought to do and it is just the perfect touch. As always, thank you.
Thanks so much! I really enjoy your channels. To me, the hinge you built here is the ICING on buildings. I love happening upon an old shed that has detailed hinges/ latches like this. It gives me insight on the person who made them. There is beauty in simplicity, but the soul of the maker is in the details.
Just so awesome. I feel privileged watching all your videos on both channels. What ever you need to make I will watch and will more than likely get inspired. Thanks for the video.
As we say in Devon, England......" thems proper hansom bay". in other words, they look really lovey. I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year. thank you for your continued efforts.
You do such wonderful work. I'm just now getting into blacksmithing. I took a knife making course for fun, decided I'd like to try other-than-knife things, so I bought an anvil & a forge and just finished putting everything together today. Your videos have given me so much wonderful information and I'm very thankful for them. Can't wait to start smithing myself!
I can't speak for everyone else but I think bring us alone for your personal projects would be a great idea. I would really help some of us see how you tackle different things. Also so some of us will relate more with those k8nd of projects
That is a fine set of ginges and a good looking door. My neighbor is want me to smith some hinges for his tractor shed door so this is a timely video and a great inspiration. Thank you for the many hours of instruction and great ideas over the years
Great project. Glad you'll be putting up a video on your second channel about making the door itself, I need to make a new door for my shop and have no real idea how to do it.
Thanks , those hinges looked great . I just noticed ( perhaps iam slow on the uptake ) that you use a oxy / fuel shut off valve with a pilot lite , love mine . Thanks for sharing all these years . Old millwright here
I fully support your idea of working on projects around the house! Practical applications and problem solving are a huge part of the craft and well worth showing your process. Keep up the great work!
Inspiring as always, John. This gives me ideas for the hinges on my shop doors and an idea for a new latch system. Thanks for taking the time to make and share these videos with us.
I really like these hinges, especially because you're making them for yourself! I also am redoing the entrance to my workshop right now, so maybe I'll rig a temporary forge and make my own hinges, just because I can!
John: I really enjoy watching your videos. They are clear and easy to follow. I must admit I am still working on some of your hook of the week projects. Best of luck in the new year.
Very beautiful work john you always make such nice products. And thanks to your inspiration, I now have a portable bandsaw stand I built for the new bandsaw that I purchased. It really does make a difference in the smithy so thanks again for sharing your wisdom with us all godbless and good health from arkansas.
Thanks JOHN for the video I love the design it's enjoyable and sometimes aggravating to do that type of work, but it is sure. Nice to look at when you're done
yep be happily watching both channels, i think most of us who do our own metal work also do our own home improvements too. i'll also be building a pair of doors for my shed too.
Always thought you haven't been given enough good words for adding the little messages for shoo and personal safety. John by now your advice could perhaps have saved California if only they had spread your safety teachings Hopefully you have taught someone who might carry the message of safety next. Do know I've listened to most of your advice and believe many Smiths has been involved with less pain and property loss. Agree we should design at least something just as we dream it should be done! If you can't please yourself then you are a nut 😅 Special Thanks.
I really like the look of these hinges, the round head screws look good, I could also see some square head lag style screws, with some butcher work, could look good as well. Thank you for the content you create, I always look forward to your videos, and I learn a lot, not just from your commentary, but from watching how you do some process or another. Thank you!
Absolutely love the artistry John and I love the skills and tools that a beginner may not even think about always love the content and can’t wait to see more
I would rather watch you work on projects that you have a passion for, rather than yet another hook... just to satisfy some algorithm. I get it, but that isn't why I watch. Keep up the good work John!
I look foreward to your videos, they always entertain and educate! I am amazed constantly by your skills as a smith. It is amazing that a lot of the videos you post correlate to a upcoming project in my shop, I need a new door and hinges as well!
I totally agree with your new approach. Another youtuber that I watch is doing the same thing. It is great that you guys produce this material and we really appreciate it. But at some point, it takes over your life and it is time to go back to doing things for yourself and your greater enjoyment. Taking us along for the ride is a welcome bonus. Take care and may your hammer blows continue to be true.
I hope to finish it next weekend when it's too cold to work in the blacksmith shop. With any luck the video will be available by the end of the month on the @JohnSwitzer channel
I have wanting to start blacksmithing for several years but after watching your videos for the last several months I finally ordered my new Anvil 2 days ago thank you
Have fun and enjoy the journey
Awesome welcome to the craft brother
Another hand touches the anvil.
Jokes aside I hope you like it, blacksmithing is the single most satisfying thing I've ever had the pleasure of doing
My wife and I look forward to your videos and really think your swing to your needs is awesome. We appreciate when you can take us with you.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I really like the hinges. I also like the fact that both hinges are not identical. You switching to take care of your needs, will be a nice change because it will show us where your taste lies. We will get to see more ornamentation than you can do when making things for an unknown consumer.
Thanks, There should be some interesting projects this year

Nothing wrong with self-care/ home projects John. Enjoy, and thanks for sharing!
I'm really looking forward to watching you express yourself in a deeper way. Even if that means fewer videos, I think they will be very entertaining. Thanks John!
Thanks! I appreciate the support.
Can't wait to see the metalwork joined up with the woodwork !!! Architectural stuff is so damn cool!!!
Beautiful work John. I've been smithing for 16+years, and I love your commentary. 👍
I appreciate that, thanks for watching!
They came out beautiful!
Thank you

Thanks Serb! I'm glad the videos are helpful.
Excellent work! The decorative marks around the screw holes are very reminiscent of the broad arrow used to mark government property throughout the British Empire.
Absolutely beautiful, great job created by very capable hands! I tip my cap to you Squire!
Thank you for the kind words
Very nice video, really shows what is possible by making your own hardware and embracing your own creativity. Looking forward to seeing the finished door installed, please make a video of you making the door as well.
The door will be on the @johnswitzer channel, hopefully in the next 2 weeks

Sounds like a great place to show off your work
Nicely done John. I really like the extra scroll work on the business end of these hinges. Cheers
Thanks 👍
Fabulous jobs, hinges like one might find on a dragon keep in Game of Thrones. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! 😊
Wonderful video! Thank you for demonstrating techniques that can be used in so many ways. Also, your "personal" projects will inspire us to work on our own.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the video.
Excellent work John. Ive been away for a while and its good to see your work again. I just found your woodworking channel and am waiting with baited breath for the video on building the door for these hinges. Bravo!
Hopefully I'll have that door video ready in a few weeks.
Thank you, brother. You make great videos and eventually, I will have watched them all.
Glad you like them!
These hinges and the Yellin inspired gate are your best work so far, IMHO, and show your capabilites so much better than axes, hammers and shop tools. I hope you'll do much more in this vein. Thanks, John!
I appreciate that, I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Take as much time as you need. I'll be here to watch once you have the videos ready.
Fantastic work on those door hinges John. Enjoyed watching so much. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred .
Thanks Fred! I appreciate that.

Thanks for the support!

Thanks
Absolutely I'd love to see more home projects you are working on. You are always informative and yes editing takes a LOT longer than people think.
Aint no such thing as overkill! :D
I'm liking the scrolls on the one side of the hinge. You don't see asymmetry like that very often.
Just an outstanding project! This is the kind of thing that should make you smile every time you see them. Fantastic work, they look great!
As we say in Devon, England......" thems proper hansom bay". in other words, they look really lovey. I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year. thank you for your continued efforts.

I looked at both options and frequently choose the square head lags.
Absolutely love the artistry John and I love the skills and tools that a beginner may not even think about always love the content and can’t wait to see more
