Take note of the mom played by Patricia Neal who has no problem letting her child spend the day with an absolute stranger. Things were so different then. This movie was about Cold War fear but I submit there are scarier considerations regarding today’s society.

I would love to see this movie reintroduced to the theatres with edited clips added and computer coloring!

Now would be a good time, with the present situation , to show this movie again. How about it, Disney\Fox?

Intelligent sci-fi. Oh so rare. Wonder what happened? Bernard Hermann, incredible music adaptation. Made this movie!

      Thank you for your comment.
I was 11 when I first saw it on TV.
It came on a show called ,Saturday Night at the Movies. Strange thing my mother watched it and loved it even though she hated SF movies.
She talked about it for years.
It is a parady of Jesus life. The man Klaatu takes the name Mr Carpenter. Jesus was a carpenter by trade. Klaatu like Jesus comes with a message and is rejected. He later is killed yet comes back to life. Leaves the earth after one last warning that he'll return with an army next time. First time a savior second a judge. Great movie if ever there was one. Still love to watch it till this day.

I agree those are the two best science-fiction movies ever Made. The day the earth stood still and the thing from another world.

After going to the theater in 1991. Seeing Terminator II & the new liquid metal terminator. I thought director James Cameron should of did a remake of the TDtESS remake immediately. But sticking as close as possible to the original message of this movie. Casting Christopher Reeve as Klattu also. Somehow I never saw the three best SF movies of the 1950's as a kid/teen. I watch tv endlessly, every monster, horror & classic SF non stop. I never got to see this movie on vhs in 1989. This is indeed the best SF story ever filmed until Star Wars & the Empire Strikes Back. The Thing from another World 1951 also & Forbidden Planet the other two best ever made in the decades. I had seen pictures from these movies in great books on SF movies. In the 1970's but I never got to see them until like the early 1990's. So happy we eventually got them on VHS back then & bow DVD/Bluray. I'd love to see this colorized too.
