Alby was always one of the guys i rooted for most growing up... when i was a kid, had to have been like '97ish? (whatever year both he and MC were on suzuki's) and supercross was coming through phoenix. The Suzuki team was scheduled to do an autograph signing at a local dealership here. I was so jazzed to meet MC (of course), and alby wasnt even on my radar as a kid..... something ended up happening with team transport, or they got held up doing something... we ended up waiting HOURS past when they were supposed to show. I had all but given up hope, when nobody but Greg Albertyn showed up. He signed a bunch of autographs, talked to me as a kid. Talked to my dad for a long time. Just by making that appearance when he so could have easily done what MC did and said nah, made our household lifelong fans. Rad dude
So good! I can finally put a personality behind the name. Same with the Demaria episode. Love them! Grew up watching these guys riding. Well done mate!
Funny Greg mentioning about the Dutch being cheap. I remember arriving at Bergamo airport for the Italian GP and walking to my rental car, Jan de Groot was walking around in the car park. I knew him pretty well and asked what he was doing and he said, looking for somebody who was going to the track and could give him a lift, of which I did. He was a very nice human and very humble.
Great catching up with Greg, he was a hoot to watch racing we saw his do or die mentality laid out there every race and that crazy get off off that Supercross jump. He spoke of the drill through the leg off that femur compound 😂 they did the same thing to me before traction, spasms were the worse pain ever.
Same lol... My Dad, Uncle and I stood behind the 125 gate for a start at the dome in Minneapolis and it absolutely blew my mind. My uncle didn't ride but lived there and he said between motos that they didn't get that good of a turnout for football games at the time lol. I believe it was '95 or '96... good times.
I've always wondered what life is like for some of the 90's legends. Great to hear Greg is doing so well. He was very cool to my son and I when we would pop in at the Suzuki test track.
Such a great guy. I have been international level racer and back in 2005 went to USA with my dad to race LL. I was 12 at the time. Met many great riders like Vuillemin and Albertyn etc. Once at Glen Helen Greg parked next to us and I spoke with him for some 10 minutes until we got attacked by group of bees. I think he was even allergic to them and needed to cover fast. Legend!
I knew Karl Prestwood, he lives in the same town as me. Had bicycle shop down the road from my parents. Often seen him at the track and we spoke all the time, nice guy. I also did a few Rob Herring training days in Coventry.
I vaguely remember the situation with the dutch national championship it had something to do with the naming of the series being "NK" (which means Nederlands Kampioenschap, only being able to be won if you where dutch nationality) at some point in the future it changed into "ONK" (which meant Open Nederlands Kampionschap, removing the nationality aspect). Not sure when this happened but must had been somewhere early or mid 90's, Albertyn was awesome to follow back in the day man good podcast
I would absolutely love to see you have Robbie Reynard on your podcast after watching Greg Albertyen!! That guy had so much natural talent but then injury and everything else happened but he is doing great things now
Saw Greg run his number 1 . Carmichael and Windham each won a Moto with villaman winning the overall , Greg got 5th and I could see his heart wasn't in it. I also watched Pastranas motor oil drain out in front of me in his first moto second race of his career. Loved Albee
For those familiar with supercross tracks in 96. And combine the fact that Suzuki didn’t have a supercross test track and only prepared riding hills it’s amazing Greg put so much heart on the line
deegan and lawrence kinda reminds me a bit of doohan and rossi, despite that the gap between their career is much smaller and they actually will compete against each other.
I think I remember seeing pictures of Greg practicing when he was a kid and there were like African animals roaming around in the area he was at pretty cool of course these pictures were along time ago so I could be thinking about another SA racer
Used to be lapped by Greg when we were on KX100/125s when he came down to Hamersdale and Kings Park. Always admired the fact that he had a christian fish sticker on the side of his bike and ripped. Was a bit funny when he went to 125's as puberty hit him late so he looked like a monkey riding a buffalo for a while.
Alby was great i wish he would have done better in sx but he had to learn the hard way and that was crashing which sidelined him with injuries. But you also have to remember yhe talent he had to race against. There was 10 guys that could win any given time.💯💪✌️👍
I go to Texas and save on taxes. California is nice but will get more extreme when it comes to taxes due to so many producers leave the state. They are gonna suck the life out of the producers that have stayed.

Love it
Grew up racing with Greg - we all knew he was something special even as a kid .
So good! I can finally put a personality behind the name. Same with the Demaria episode. Love them! Grew up watching these guys riding. Well done mate!
Big Alby fan back in the day..This has been one of the best interviews I’ve listened to lately .
This dude was so gnarly.. You would have to see it to believe it! 🔥
My favourite GP rider, met him once on a ferry coming from the Irish GP in 93, you couldn't wish to meet a nicer, more down to earth guy
Thanks Alby, you paved the way for many of us South Africans, you helped us believe it is possible.

Going to be a BANGER!!! one of my all time favs! Saw him many times at Red Bud, Millville and Minneapolis SX over the years

This is rad. Was always a huge Albertyn fan!

Tomac is a man’s rider dude that is such a solid quote
I remember so well riding at Eureka Sands. This little dude on his RM80, feet not reaching the ground, just smoking everyone. Good memories.
Such a great guy.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Cool to learn more about him after watching him as a kid in the 90s ✊🏻

I followed Albee through his career, always wondered what he was up to.Awesome Podcast . Thank you.👍🏴🏴
That 67 with the sinisalo kit blue top and the spray painted arai is one of the most fav combo of all time
Remember watching him on a supermini in South Africa, he was the dangerboy back then here in SA at the tracks
I would absolutely love to see you have Robbie Reynard on your podcast after watching Greg Albertyen!! That guy had so much natural talent but then injury and everything else happened but he is doing great things now
The legend!!!
Use to watch Go Big with Greg Albertyn all the time on VHS. Probably the first "training" video I ever saw
Saw Greg run his number 1 . Carmichael and Windham each won a Moto with villaman winning the overall , Greg got 5th and I could see his heart wasn't in it. I also watched Pastranas motor oil drain out in front of me in his first moto second race of his career. Loved Albee
Oh yeah it was at Hangtown, second race of 2000

I don’t think they had much of a race shop. I think in 96 the mechanics built bikes out of their garage at home
G A was my fav rider from 92 then going to 250 GPS and smoked them in 93 that class was stacked then
Saw Alby first time at Budds MXGP 92
1996 WORKS Suzuki RM250...........#16 was my favorite!!
The Red Riders went hard in the paint 💪
Mcs team mate in 93 was 92 supercross champion Jeff Stanton.
Second comment, what a great guy Greg is!
deegan and lawrence kinda reminds me a bit of doohan and rossi, despite that the gap between their career is much smaller and they actually will compete against each other.
What’s a good mtn bike trail in San Clemente? Be there in 3 weeks.
Try and get Cody Mackie on the show. He stayed with Greg Schnell when he came to America way back in the day. Such a rad dude and the kid hauled ass

Where does the term "Holeshot" come from?
🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Masters of Motocross 89 in Maastricht! Nobody knows the Kid with the German License on the Stock Kawi

Last year Marquez was on a '23 Ducati dudes. He was on a year old bike. You GOTTA know that if you're great Motogp fans as you claim,.

Technically apartheid ended in 1990 though
