Hi Tolarian, I just got done watching your podcast with Rick Glassman. Just wanted to let you know you are amazing at what you do and an inspiration.
The less lands you have in your opening hand, the more lands you have in your deck. That's just math.

"monsters"? that's what you are if you call them that..
Although it also has to be said that attacking when your opponent may be dead this turn, and may be dead next turn, and you have a comfortable life buffer, and letting them figure out whether they can live another turn while you just turn all your sideways and sit back is a feeling that can't be beat.
Math is for blockers.
I had a friend do this last Friday.
Him: "...and I ult my planeswalker, destroying all permanents. Yes, even lands. ALL permanents you have are gone."
...
Me: "Including *yours*?"
Him: "No. Just opponents." *grabs card*
...
Him: "Well, crap. All, INCLUDING me."

Control players and counterspells are like aggro players and burn spells.

So we have counterspells, and card advantage, and cards that reduce the cost of our instants/sorceries, and tutors, and control, and cards that reward us for doing all of that and the ability to suck the fun out of any and all games, besides all that what's so bad about me using blue in every deck I've ever played?

Same, except i can't quite manage to finish the decks. I either have 50 cards worth of a deck and can't manage to figure the rest out, or i have 130 cards and can't make cuts.
Having so many decks never stopped me from making decks before not having cards however has
@@jamespatterson5644 Do what i did with a Tribal Snake themed deck before make two different decks and then realize that you actually ran out of sol rings the most common commander card somehow as well as actually needing to buy more lands
To be fair, following Tappy's advice has never steered me wrong in the past! (Munches pocket bacon)
While we are on the topic of pocket bacon, I'm pretty sure Cameron has something else to say about that. 🤣

@@Yuzuki1337 to be far in regards to that, that was just bad luck. Cam is mainly a vegetarian and decided to indulge, bacon that's not freshly made in a stomach that almost never eats meat.... yeah. Poor Cam. no one's fault but poor Cam.
@@couldntpickausername4099 For what it's worth, it was prime entertainment value. As a comedian, that often takes priority over one's health. Oh and Tappy played Niv Mizzet in every single game she played at that point, so it's possible Cam thought reality had changed somewhat.

@@yonyon5432 the way to deal with a player that has answers is to play threats to them. If they don't have anything to deal with it, you are in a good position. And if they can deal with it, you at least got rid of one of their answers.

@@KyosukeTsuchigami101 Yeah I got a set box (my LGS didn't have any draft boxes anymore o.O) and got 3 fetches: Arid mesa, Marsh flats and Verdant Catacombs. None of them in a special frame or anything :P ... this video by the professor is too real :'(
(well then again I also got Cabal Coffers and Yavimaya, cradle of growth and some other nice drops)

I frequently find myself in this position. If one of the decks is control heavy, i end up with a crap board state because i keep making aggressive plays that "force" them to keep me in check. Unfortunately, more often than not the other two players don't take advantage of me forcing the counters and the control player wins anyway...

for my winota commander deck i kept a one land hand only because i had a land tax out and wasnt first so i got to just do stuff(ended up winning the game later on)
my shauku deck rewards me when I keep a 1 land hand... sometimes...
What really stings is when the opponent does it and rips 3 lands in a row for a perfect curve.

1:12 I agree with the voice in the head at this point. Mana open doesn't mean you hold back, mana open means you force them to have it.
Realistically, you need to keep jamming things until something sticks against control.

iv only been playing for like 2-3 ish years now and already have 8 finished decks, 1 im slow building because its a 5 color, and like 4 i just havent found the last few cards or or just sat down and finished. and i have dismantled 3 others to mix them into others. so 15 is a pretty low number for a long time player it seems.
1:10 To be fair, there are times where I just said screw it and swung out at my opponent who had a better board than me and it worked out a couple times. Some opponents don't like math either.

oh wow. i just checked. there are currently 29 couter spells and 22 bounce spells in standard. that explains a lot of the decks on arena right now.
does that include things that give hexproof?

I do the "attack with everyone on a complicated boardstate" a lot, especially in Limited. One time especially it was the right choice, but if it wasn't for a single +1/+1 counter, it would've been a suicide. What a game.

This is wild. I just stumbled on your page and you're in a game store that's from my childhood neighborhood. Unforchantly I left because of all the transplants ruining the area.
I've been on Magic: Arena, i hate how accurate this is.
All I'm saying is I've opened 2 pre-release packs, 2 additional draft boosters, 2 set boosters and 1 collectors booster.
I have gotten 1 arid mesa, 1 retro border misty rainforest, 1 retro border Verdant Catacombs, 1 Foil etched retro border Verdant Catacombs.
