  • We've taken a look at one of our favourite decades in football history - the 1950s. Alongside a changing world outside of the game, football also needed to adapt to suit an ever-evolving global game.

    The 3 Lions had already lost at home at Goodison Park previous to this match, in 1949 to Ireland, 2-0. It's a common misconception about the Hungary game. First Wembley loss for England against a side outside the UK, but not the first on home soil.

      Definitely - should have said ‘seemingly unbeatable’. Although they had lost to Home Nations and Ireland at home - to the rest of the World they had appeared unbeatable to foreign opposition!
