Congrats on a great purchase. Iv’e paddled my Delta 15.5 got for 3 years. Love it! Supper stable in all conditions. Really like the day hatch location. Only issue is it does not track well without the rudder down. I also recommend some hull tape along the keel line. While the thermoform plastic is pretty tough, beaches and rocks will chew through especially at the stern.
He is referring to the rudder and keal tape. If your touring kayak wanters side to side with out the rudder down its a good idea to take some paddling lessons and practice correct strokes. The rudder is not designed as a steering tool. It’s actually designed for wind correction but most use it incorrectly and end up never learning proper paddle strokes. At least you should learn how to paddle without a rudder because a paddler should be prepared in the even it stops working. My two cents anyway. 😊👍
awesome video! I was just gifted a real cheap kayak and ive fallen in love, im thinking about saving for one of these! it seems like an incredible craft for the price
I would say 100% P&H Virgo. But it would be good if you could try out a low volume and a medium volume to see which one fits you better. P&H has better rocker then Delta. If you wanted a high volume kayak for packing lots of gear in moderate to light conditions I might suggest Delta. But I think P&H make the most well suited kayaks for most people. If you’re looking for something intermediate to advanced.
That's exactly what I'm looking for. I would like it to be a little longer, between 4.5 and 5m but then I see that we go up in weight with the leo model. I don't know if there is another good compromise from another brand with similar characteristics around 25kg in weight. Do you know an alternative model with these requirements? A thousand thanks
Looking at picking this kayak up. Any experience paddling on bigger water? I live in michigan and want paddle on Lake Michigan/ superior along with in land lakes….
It’s absolutely great on big water. I’ve had it out on Lake Ontario and in Lake Erie. It’s designed for expedition travel on big water. I’m sure it’ll handle whatever skill level you can throw at it. It is a high-volume kayak. It’s designed to carry a lot of gear. If that’s what you’re after it will be perfect.
Technically once you learn the proper techniques for rolling you can roll almost any kayak. The kayaks that are easy to roll come with compromises. Generally speaking if it’s easy to roll it’s most likely very narrow and not as stable. It’s a bit of a trade-off if you’re looking for a touring kayak. I learn how to roll in the Delta 15.5.
It is a large volume kayak. As long as it fits you OK it is definitely rollable. It tracks really well and it is pretty fast. It can handle choppy water no problem. It’s best purpose is for packing a lot of gear. If you don’t necessarily pack a lot I would definitely consider the delta 16. It’s easier to roll and handles crazy conditions no problem. It’s built more for the performance side of things. Hopefully you can sit in one of them or at least give them a try before you get one.
Nice video Mike!I know that feeling..Man am I in Love! I just bought a Delta 12-10..I say that, feel it every time I take her out!Beautiful boats! What kind of paddle are you using? thanks
Delta 12.10 is an amazing Kayak! Congratulations! The paddle that I’m using is a greenland paddle. Really love the way it feels in my hands. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. Happy paddles! 😊👍
This is the most stable kayak in the fleet of touring kayaks by delta. It’s perfect for large paddlers. It’s ideal for beginners through intermediate. It’s an inspiring vessel to paddle. Your son will love it!
The 15.5gt is a large volume kayak. If i was you based on your size I would look at either the delta 16 or the 15s. The 15s has a slight smaller cockpit but both the 16 and 15s wouldn’t feel like a yacht. Lol. But if you like the feeling of a large volume kayak try out a 15.5. They all performe great.
You are going to love it. The 16 would be my top choice of kayak from Delta. It’s an amazing performing boat. That’s why they call it the Sweet 16. Enjoy my friend. You will love it.
I would love to hear your thoughts after owning the 15.5 GT for 2 years now. For example how do it compare to your other kayaks? And how does it compare to other Delta models like the 16 and 17? Might make a good episode. I'm personally struggling on picking between the 15.5, 16, and 17 and would be great to hear your insights and what you would choose after all the experience you gained. Also loving the channel by the way and watched most of your vids. Please keep them coming! 😁
Thanks for your kind words and support! well, two years later and I’m currently battling a Delta 17 and a P & H Scorpio. The 15.5 GT is a great boat. It’s got a lot of volume and is great for hauling gear and having extra space. 17 is lower volume but longer. and longer means a bit quicker and because it’s a lower volume it’s a bit more agile in conditions. I’m sure you will be happy with any choice you make.
Fun vid. There’s nothing like padding a new kayak for the first time. Congratulations on the new addition.
Thank you! 😊👍
Great review.
I’ve got a Delta 12.10 and I’m extremely happy with it.
That’s a great kayak! Enjoy. Thanks for watching!

Hi, for navigation in rough water and wind and for light paddler, 65 kg, which is better, delta 15s or p&h virgo lv/mc? Thanks

@@MikeProut I’m on the xl side for a paddler and need the higher volume…. Easy to roll? I’m not there yet, however, a easy boat to roll is a plus…

Thanks brother! 😊👍 hope your keeping well.
Can’t wait till mine arrives 😊
You’re gonna love it! I’m excited for you. 😊👍
Nice! My next kayak will be a Delta.
You will love it! Everything they make is quality!

What's the stability like for a larger beginner? Thinking of this one for my son.
