This song is just so much more than a breakup song. It can be interpreted for someone who has struggled their whole life and is just tired of the emotional bullshit. Death, lies, abandonment, depression, drugs, abuse, war, crime, bullying, etc. All this shit causes pain in someway and our “heart” takes the pain because it literally feels like someone stabbed it or dropped it in ice. Just imagine if we could literally trade the proverbial heart that feels pain in exchange for armor. The thought is...beautiful.

Interesting how a common theme exists in all of these comments. I shared it too. 58 years of failed relationships. Broken hearts. Truly thought it was a myth. Until a girl who was put into my life for a season that caused me to realize that I was going about it all wrong. I tried to love my partner too much only, and not Jesus enough. She turned me around and I began loving Jesus with all my heart. Our true country roots are God and Country. But as a man I sure missed it. She left my life as fast as she was placed into it. But left a huge impact on me. I then began praying for God to place His choice into my life instead of my life choice. Patience is the hardest thing about God's timing to understand and wait for. 15 month later He placed her into my life when I least expected it. She wasn't anything I would have dated because of my fear of not being able to. That was some time ago. She and I haven't left each other's side since. I truly believe now I really was fighting God's choice. Arrogantly we all make that mistake and doubt His immense power. Never again will I ever make that mistake again. I wanted to think I would have them around the rest of my life making music together. Guess I was selfish in feeling that way.
