Is this a simping episode? Possibly. Hallease corners her husband and asks why he hasn't made any catchy videos showcasing their interracial love on the internet. Also, did you know that people of color weren't included in research studies until 1993? Anyway, let's talk about this viral trend and overanalyze it to the point of nausea. #stumblewellpodcast #couplespodcast

I wanna start off by saying i normally enjoy the channel…but this video didn’t give what it was supposed to. When people talk about the magic of being a girl dad or a boy mom, it’s not because they think being the parent of the opposite sex would be less meaningful. They’re not trying to degrade one or fetishize another. They’re trying to highlight what’s special about that particular/specific experience.
But i feel like when it comes to black women, we arent allowed to have a thing without dissecting the political implications and sucking every ounce of fun out of it. Like how we spent half the video talking about it being problematic and got to talking about fetishization out of a fun trend where husbands show how their black wives improved their appearance, i truly dont know.
Black women ARE special. What we bring in any room/relationship is special and should be specifically celebrated. It would not be the same with any other wife. We create the culture, we start trends, we are incredibly unique in experience and so we bring unique things to the environment around us and I don’t feel like me saying so is a strike to any other wives of other races.
Getting a shout out for the way that their black womanhood positively impacts their significant others is a good thing. We are allowed to have fun and celebrate being black wives not just wives. No one else takes the identity out of their celebrations so why should we?
And lastly, if men want to show off their bodies in the process of appreciating their wives, i think thats also fine. Im a sex positive person that enjoys the way people choose to use their autonomy so i dont think that just because the husbands show off their physique it’s somehow toxic. That was an odd observation imo.
Maybe yall could have had the political discourse behind the scenes so the focus could have solely been on the ways in which hallease’s special, unique, specifically and unapologetically black love has changed him for the better
Thank you for putting this comment and letting me know that this episode missed the mark for you. In general, we tend to cover topics from a variety of angles for a full breadth of conversation but reading your comment I definitely understand how this wasn’t it for you and I’m sure youre not the only one that feels this way (a few have unsubscribed). So, again thank you for your comment because I always want to know. Moving forward, I’m going to keep this in mind. How can I potentially be stealing celebration and joy around my people by allowing a jaded opinion to be amplified.
@@jesusisapisces It wasn't worthy of being called "tripe". It was a good discussion, just not what was expected.

28:34 THIS! this is why the black wife effect trend makes my tummy hurt. on the surface, it’s a cute way to uplift black women. but when you really think about it, it’s not. like not at all. to me, the trend is more about celebrating the LABOR of black women without honoring black women in and of themselves.
congrats on finishing your manuscript, chris!
Yeah, I’ve seen a few that genuinely do seem great but obviously the further down the rabbit hole you goooooo 😐
I think this is THE take on the whole trend
Congratulations Chris on completing your manuscript!

Do you know about the USPHS syphilis study? Confused about your statement when research involving people of color did not start until indicated in your content.
Poc have been researched well before 93, like huh? The link you provided simply just show ethical guidelines in place for inclusiveness and proper representation
Hallease, I need you to know that I fully clicked on this episode expecting to see a youtube short where you show Chris' glow up. ( I got a notification on my phone so I didn't properly see it was a podcast episode.) I'm looking forward to listening to this episode in full.
lol sorry! But I suppose I could technically make one 🌚
@@halleaseWe ready ☺️.
Lol..i am smiling before even starting this video. 😂
😂 in true us fashion we go way too deep into this for no reason
congrats mr. hallease for finishing your manuscript script and i'm praying the right agent comes your way!
🥹🥹 thank you for the prayers and kind words
Kudos to Mr. Hallease!! Seriously - Congrats man. It takes a lot of time and effort to get to that stage. (also - respectfully, will defs be putting my name in for the role of 'agent')
Congrats Mr Hallease! You are doing it! Can't wait to read the finished product!
I love that you’re doing an episode on this topic- nice !
Me actually seeing a trend and making topical content 🫨😂
13:48 Just as a side note and a comparative point, the history of "research" and studies within African American history has a generational trauma that makes a lot of melanated folks aversed to participating in studies that may be available. Also, healthcare being tethered to full time employment makes it extremely hard for most individuals and families to have regular doctor visits.
100% agree, the struggle is we still need it so unfortunately we have to have a combination of discernment and willingness to try that others don’t have to have
Finally got to hear about Mr Hallease's ethnicity, I have always wondered what his background was (I may have missed it being mentioned in the past) and was curious about how it impacted him or your relationship. It is interesting and so glad you dive into talking about race and Blackness!!
lol yes he’s latino (combo indigenous Mexican and Spanish) and Lebanese
It was mentioned many years ago when they talked about eloping to get married. Gosh! Look at me saying many years ago😂
Crazy how time flies
Hey beautiful folks! Loved your video!
Since no one else has brought this up I feel the need to let you know that saying "biological man" is problematic language, specifically transphobic. I get the vibe that you are kind, loving and accepting people, so this isn't a call out
33:48 There was a similar trend like this, about 3 or 4 years ago, on tiktok, of wahyte men professing their love of black women and a lot of people just outright questioned the motives of this trend. Was it true love and appreciation or was it just fetishization?
That’s always the struggle, in my opinion. I’m all for celebrating Black women (obviously) but discerning what’s true celebration vs fetishization is the struggle. I’m not a novelty.
yall are so cute together.
when yall started going deep into it was like ... "lets just have fun with it yall!"
im not social media heavy and i have seen a few of these n most of them r cute.
thanks for adding yall perspective to it! =)
True this was 45 minutes of us doing the most on a topic and if you watch until the end the conclusion is exactly that - let people have fun with it
@@hallease im loved hearing yall explore it from both sides though! great convo!!!
ngl this is my favourite thumbnail of all tiiimme, i chuckled so much when it popped up on Patreon
Hahah leaning in for sure
Kudos Mr. Hallease!! That’s a huge deal! Conrats!
Oh and I forgot to add it to the other comment, the thing you were talking about of heterosexual men doing things they say are for women but are actually only attractive to other men, there’s a theory around most men being heterosexual but homoafective, meaning they are sexually attracted to women but their love, praise, admiration, affection is truly only reserved for other men. This has nothing to do with sexuality, this isn’t to say most men are gay, it’s about a social construct where men’s affection and care is only reserved for other men. The “heterosexual but homoafective” concept might have a different name in English. I speak Portuguese so in Portuguese that terminology makes the most sense.
I’ve never heard that specific term used but the concept is definitely talked about
I’ve heard “homoromantic” for a similar concept but for strictly romantic love. We’d spell it homoaffective but I think the meaning comes across
what you just described is literally just misogyny but softening the severity with an analytical approach lmfao

Would love a writing episode with Mr. Hallease bc my wip is dying on the vine 😭

Great Job Mr Hallease!!!
Throughly enjoy watching and listening to both of you. Thanks for posting 💜💜💜💜💜
🎉🥳 wooohooo to you for finishing Chris!
Get you a man who says there’s no such thing as eating too much chicken. 🥹. 😂😂
That part! 😂 if you taking nothing else from this episode, that’s the main idea for sure
Kudos Chris!!! It ain't easy and you made it happen👏🏾👏🏾
26:39 I don't think that the men are the ines making these videos I think the women are. If not making them spearheading the effort. Most that I see are on family channels and not individual channels.
Ayy props on doing the thing! Thats awesome!
Thank you! As a RN please go to the doctor and keep up with screenings
I found this channel through the ad of this episode and i got hooked so fast!
If he has to ask "why do they need to rise them up" he's got A LOT of learning to do.
Congrats Mr. Hallease!
1:40 Congrats Mr. Hallease. Just finished my first draft of my graphic novel after working on it for 3 years.
I always enjoy when your podcasts start with a question of sorts. The conversations are vibrant as you both bring up other supporting questions/observations that may or may not support or answer the initial statement and/or purpose of the video. I look forward to the visual version of this podcast since Chris will usually have some entertaining visuals to emphasize the conversation. 😉 Congratulations on the completed manuscript, Chris. 💖
Thanks for watching 😎
Kudos Mr Hallease!
She said oh Ik I’m loved right sir 👏🏾 👏🏾 wonder if he makes Hallease calm when she’s freaking out because he always seems so calm and patient & I hope you make the Reel girl lol
Kudos Mr. Hallease
Congratulations to both of you on your podcast & manuscript.💐💐
I really enjoyed this conversation! ❤️❤️
Congratulations on your script!!!!
Congratulations on finishing your manuscript.
Just did your move estimate. Just sub as promised💯
oOoOoooOooooh!!!! 😀
I am SOOOOOO LOOKING FORWARD to hearing y'all's perspective on the "Black Wife Effect"!!! 👀👂🏾🍿🍿
I love this. Mr.Hallease is absolutely right, the black wife effect really is just the wife effect.
Honor Hallease’s black woman partnerhood! That is a thin line to do well… without exposing one’s lack of cultural awarenesses, centering one’s insecurities or worse… etc… especially in public. Also that point abou black women’s labor… like again it asks more labor from black women to explore what and how to celebrate themselves correctly…
It’s hard to even just have fun. I like how there’s two sides and I like how both simply having fun and exploring this whole thing deeply can be hard in their diff ways. Sorry for all my replies to myself in the following comments I just am self chatting
He likes cooking for your appreciation so cute.
Also I appreciate how you dipped into such a topic so well
Dang Hallease can def make a vid of anything but also how it’s def freaky how it’s out of her hands on HOW it will go viral 😬
Wait I thought these videos were about the male gaze… I wish these videos were more obviously towards other men or women gazes who love their black wives
I found you guys! You two have not aged! I used to watch your vids way back when you had a pixie cut.😊
Congrats Mr. Hallease!!!
Kudos Mr. Hallease 🎉
Congratulations Mr. Hallease 🎉 Would love to hear more about your manuscript writing process
I’ve been trying to get him to talk about it. We’ll see if I can make it happen
Beautiful voice. Glad you’re doing this lol. ❤beautiful couple too. 👸🏾💪🏾
The stats say it’s just a wife effect
Love my black women though ❤
Not exactly
This popped up on my feed - I've missed this!
Loove love this conversation
Congratulations Mr. Hallease 🎉
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 kudos Mr. Hallease
Your wife should make a positive difference in your life, change for the better and being there through the darkest times….etc that’s why she has the title teammates for life 😊❤your partner should bring out the best because they see the best in you (VV)
Congrats, Chris!!!! A manuscript is big. Get it! Work it!
9:30 I know this is a podcast and the video is wholy secondary, but why not hook the camera up to a monitor or small tv to fix stuff like auto focus failing?
👀 not you calling out the laziness
@@hallease Nooo. I'm actually saying this cause I'm too lazy to film something twice. If it were me filming a podcast and the focus was off, I'd either post as is or scrap the whole video.
😂😂
Very well, balanced points of views.
Tuned in 😆
Yes I think it’s cute also & all the ones I saw, it’s the wife shown off also 🥰 but the world we live in it’s always a deeper convo to have & I appreciate it
You're doing it!!!
“I’m baking making things look pretty” 😂ALL the time not realistic
Kudos to finishing your manuscript!
Kudos!!!
Bravo Mr.Hallease 👏 👏 👏
Congratulations Chris
8:06 Mr. Hallease, where did you go to school? I also studied in South Bend! Are you an ND grad?
Yes he went to Notre Dame for his undergrad and UT Austin for his masters
@@hallease I’m also an ND undergrad alum, go Irish 💙💛
You don't have to say "biological ___" everytime you talk about someone's sex.
I mean…SHEESH 😳😳😳🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
👀
@@hallease so…funny story. TH-cam switched the video mid-comment. This was meant for a friend of mine (Faith Child) 😂😂😂
But I love all your videos too! So you can have some fire emoji’s as well just for being great LOL 🔥🔥🔥
😂 I’ll take it
This ninja corny just say you're grateful specifically for your Black wife and she's leveled you up in a way that no other race of woman would have.
And sound like you mad!!😅😅
Question for me (contributing to the “chris ripped it apart” approach)… do these wives appreciate or desire being responsible for their husbands’ glow up? What is Hallease’s perspective on this? Does she want to be acknowledged for her contributions to the relationship or to you individually, Chris? Just pondering 😂
so the answer is NO- you did not give Chris Swag. But you two are perfectly matched.😁
😂😂😂😂
Way to go. Chris😁
Good convo, but as a tip for next time you talk about gender dynamics in straight relationships, you can just say "men" or "cis men" or "straight men". I appreciated the attempt to be inclusive but saying "biological men" comes across worse - it's not about some biological aspect about them, it's about how they're acting socially as straight men.
Critique aside, love the pod, love the conversations you have! I always find them to be really insightful.
Thanks! We’ll keep this in mind!
lol this trend actually started on TikTok a month ago😅
Proof that I’m not hip with it. Late as per usual
Carbs are self-destructive?
can open-worms everywhere😁
😂 yeahhhhh basically
Congrats on completing your manuscript! / I think Black women make men want to do better with their appearance. I dont know what you looked like before, but you look great now. Was that influenced by the wife? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 😉
They have the Black wife/Black husband effect non cis heterosexual couple reels. They’re cute.
Aw! That makes me wanna go search for them
There def is a husband effect.😪
This video is cringe, can this dude just have one day that is fun. I feel he will leave her I see it in his eyes. He will probably marry another Black woman but one who he can have fun with too. I mean let’s be honest the man works hard for her hobby. Maybe the next video can be appreciating my xyz ethnicity husband.
Aren’t you a miserable smuck. You obviously know them and created a fake channel to spew hate…bye

It's usually unwanted black crispy women in these situations
@suni.L yeah I’ve notice it’s usually the average looking dark skin woman doing these black wife effects. I haven’t seen one Lightskin woman do this trend 🤔. Makes you think these darker skin woman have low self esteem
@@suni.L yo i hope yall blocked this colorist p$ycho
That is such a disgusting colorist statement to make.
