Very annoying in a car wash that pulls you through, especially when the next car is right behind you. This is a terrible "feature" that I hope is removed via software update. I have reported it to Honda, please do the same!
Thank You!!! I am going to have to try this. We don’t have car washes that you get out of, they pull you through but no one can tell me what I am supposed to do if I stay IN the car and the car wash says don’t break.
You don’t need to fully press the brake, just touch it a little so that your car doesn’t come to a complete stop and you can shift to drive. I do the same all the time

Fantastic solution for people with wrist or shoulder issues, disabilities and arthritis! Love it! Does anyone know if the push-button shifter can be added after-market to a Honda CRV?
I don't. Especially where the neutral bypass is. It does not put it into neutral and stay, you have got to hold it with a wrench and push at the same time... but to each their own tis my opinion.
Thank you very much. My car is broke down and has the push button and I was struggling to figure out how the shift lock works and it turns out it doesn’t exist. Funny they don’t put that in the manual.
when the first iphone came out i remember everybody crying and saying they will never buy a phone with a glass screen because it would break easy.. Today, everybody have a phone with a full screen..... i love my push buttons transmision it's so smooth..
As if the push start wasn’t enough, now they’ve taken out PRNDL. If the car were to break down and you and whoever you gathered up had to push it, you wouldn’t be able to. Locating that nob in an emergency situation would be impossible without roadside assistance.
As far as I can tell from reading owner's manuals you need to use a cloth-wrapped screwdriver to pop off the cover to stick your key in to diddle the shift-lock too. Guess what? No screw driver is included in the toolkit, assuming the driver even knows where that is hidden. Things are getting uglier year by year.
I don’t think I’m ready for this technology yet, so many variables and always had bad luck with modern car buttons. Like on my Civic the button for the driver went busted and couldn’t lower my window anymore. Or the the time the emergency parking light button jammed to always having it on and couldn’t turn it off until I use a knife to pop it out. Dealership charged me to fix that. Like I said too many variables, and having that technology as a shifter is very risky... my opinion tho, I rather get the CVT than the 2.0T just for the fact.
Seriously Honda? Disassemble some of the engine to get to the bolt that you need to turn with a wrench to get the tranny in N if the engine won’t start? What a cluster.
This reminds me of the "Turbo Encabulator" video! You could do that video. I have watched about every video about using this electronic gear shifting. Thinking of getting a nice used 2020 Acura RLX and they have this type of shifter. Now you mention the colors you see when you push a button, GREAT! I AM COLORBLIND! At least it seems the colors do not change from Red to Green or such. I see I will have to avoid stopping at a train crossing, the engine stops and here comes a train!
Can you make the push shifter make some kind of noise to notify that it’s been pressed? That’s the only thing that bothers me about it. When I test drove it. The buttons made no noise. Making me second guess myself each time if the button had actually been pressed. And in the bright AZ sun it’s difficult to see if the buttons are illuminated. I didn’t even know they lit up until this video.
Nice. I am looking for the push button shift (or even the with the stick) up by the steering wheel in Honda CRV's. I like the older model in 2001 Honda CRV which is a lot shorter than the new models, making it a lot easier to find parking space. Also the 2001 CRV has huge space in the middle because there is gear shift (it's behind the steering wheel instead) and the tray for cup holder between passenger and driver can be folded. The storage space in the back of the 2001 Honda CRV's are also more convenient with compartments on each side where you can stick a bottle or a brush in and it will hold. I am so disappointed this push button shift is only available in luxury cars nowadays. I can't wait for Honda will go back to the 2001 interior design for the its CRV's.
I think it would be the same for any other button in a car. Spilling something on it would not be ideal, but would not necessarily make the button stick.
What's the difference between your kid spilling a soda all over the transmission in any other vehicle? Have your kid sit in the back seat if he's so young he doesn't know how to not dump liquids all over the middle of the car.
It would not be any different than a shift lever. With today's cars, there are just wires connected to the shift lever and/or buttons. There is no mechanical linkage connected to a shift lever in a car with a CVT transmission. Everything is electronic these days. Thanks for watching!
I have the 1.5T with a shift knob, and yes, this still happened once I spilled a drink in there. My shift knob trigger wouldn't unlock once I turned on the vehicle. I had to take it in and get it looked at.
Thank you for the information on disengaging the transmission under the hood. Honda roadside did NOT know how to do this when I required a tow recently and we could not get it into neutral using the normal process. They ended up having to drag my car up using skids onto the tow truck. It was really distressing considering my car was brand new.
Sorry to hear you had an issue with your new Honda. Shifting the transmission without the engine running with the 9AT or 10AT transmissions is a hassle, and the info on how to do it was not easy to find. Fortunately its not something that will need to be done often, or ever by most people. I know that doesn't mean much since you found yourself in that situation though. But now you know you know for the future. Thanks for watching!
Major flaw , fix it Honda, a safety problem, when vehicle shuts down in traffic, need a way to put the transmission in neutral with engine off while sitting in the car, my first Honda and this issue alone may make it my last

Tow truck guy couldn't figure out how to get it into neutral and ended up dragging it up on his flat bed. 2) Got key fob stolen with my backpack. Spent a few weeks trying to locate a locksmith to replace it, nobody had it in stock. Then lost the 2nd key fob. Now my car is in the garage with no means to put into neutral to push it out and onto a tow truck bed, because you need to tow your car to to dealer to get the key fobs programmed.
Pilot with 20k mile stalled due to emission problem. Was stuck in park in the middle of traffic, and pushing neutral did not shift it to neutral. How do i get rid of this death trap
Agreed, I have a 19 Accord ,rodent chewed my fuel line , needed to move it 5 foot off the road and could not , very frustrating disappointing to state it mildly ,a safety hazard,
People are hilarious. "I prefer an old fashioned shifter. Not this electronic crap" All shifters in modern cars, except for manuals, are electronic. Shift lever or not.
Wow love this push button gear it won't ruin the gear box by having people put it in park while the car is running in drive, same for reverse, thank you honda no cvt for me, 10 speed auto all the way
exactly what I was thinking I prefer to just have a regular gear selector that you just "feel" what gear you're in without having to look at what button you're pressing......sounds kinda slow and unnecessary to me to have to look all the time. I guess you'd get used to just finding the buttons by feel eventually but I don't like it. everything is too computerized and electronic these days. I prefer mechanical things
@@myvenusinuranus learnt how to parallel park in a ford fusion that had a dial. It's not any harder than when I did it with my mom's 2015 CRV and my 2018 accord hybrid with button gears didn't make it any harder either.
How do you handle the paddle shifters if you accidently hit one and the engine revs really high. Is there a fast way to disengage them, while in the middle of a turn?? I've never used the paddle shifters and this happened to me. Once I slowed and was out of the turn, I pressed the D button twice and things finally fell back into place, but I was completely guessing on how to return to a normal gear for the speed I was going. Could have over revved my engine and don't want to experience that again.
If you try to select more than one gear at a time, it goes with whichever one is pushed fractionally before the others. The car does not seem to get confused or anything like that.
It will not do anything it physically is not able to do. 60mph and push Park or reverse, you just keep rolling along (at 60mph!). The thing I don’t like , is it automatically jumps into Park when you have the door open, even just to creep forward a couple inches. The bypass on that programming, is to buckle the drivers seat belt. It also, to me, has more of a delayed response than the ones with an actual shift lever.
Thanks a lot for the awesome review. Special thanks for mentioning the way to put into neutral without engine running. BTW, how to engine brake with these push buttons? I didn't see an L or B gear.
So, let's say I want to use one of my local car washes where I sit in the car and it moves me forward via rollers behind the tires. I have to be in Neutral and at the end of the car wash I have to shift back to Drive to exit. Since I cannot simply pull down on a lever to Drive, I have to put my foot on the brake which stops the car and causes the roller behind the car to attempt to push the car forward and passes under the tire / wheel - What do I do? - simply no longer use a car wash?
I put my Odyssey in drive after the roller has pushed me off the track. The car wash has a red light/green light that turns green when the roller has pushed me away. Than I tap the brakes, shift into drive, and away we go. I've never had a problem as you have described because I didn't use the brakes while the roller is pushing the vehicle.
I have a 2019 odyssey that I just purchased. When I reverse out of my driveway and switch into drive it takes a couple seconds before my car will go. Is that a thing with these push buttons? Thanks!
What shortcoming is this supposed to improve? I can't imagine any reason this is an improvement over a gearshift. Seems to me like this is just being different for different sake and makes things unnecessarily complicated.
DELLA Honda in Plattsburgh Not in the market right now, but may be in the next few months. Looking at a Civic, but one of these new Accords has been in my office parking lot for the last week or so and it is pretty sweet...
Thank you so much. I have an unrelated question. According to the manual, I should be able to turn down the navigation voice easily but my Honda accord touring model (2018) does not work the way the manual says it should. There is no volume control under settings. Can you help?
You can only adjust the Navi volume while the navigation system is speaking to you. Plug in a destination, and when it starts to read the directions to you just turn the volume down with either the steering wheel controls or the volume knob. That is also the same way to adjust the phone call volume.
You should be able to mute or turn the volume all the way down with the volume knob or steering wheel volume controls. You have to adjust it while the navigation is speaking though.
Informative video Brian, thank you. What happens if you are driving without a seatbelt on and open the door? And one more, is it true that the Push Button Shift is only available on the 2.0? The Honda website shows interior images of all 3 engines (1.5, 2.0, Hybrid) for Touring as Push Button, and all 3 engines for EX-L as standard shifter.
The car will only shift into park when you are below a certain speed. I'm not sure what that speed is exactly, but its somewhere under 10MPH. So if you open the door without your seatbelt on, nothing will happen. However, you should always be wearing your seatbelt. Only the 2.0T models have the push button shift and 10speed transmission. They go together. The 1.5T models have a shift lever and CVT transmission. Thanks for watching!!
What if you are sitting in your car (going through a conveyor-style car wash) and it's in neutral while going through and then at the end, you are supposed to put it in drive but can't without hitting the brake? But when you hit the brake, the thing under you hits something and makes a noise? Is there a way to put it in drive from neutral without hitting the brake? (2018 Honda Pilot)
Lightly tap the brake to put it into drive. Just did this with my 2022 MDX. It gave me the warning that I can’t shift to drive. I was at the end and just barely pressed it where the brake lights came on and it went to drive successfully. If I pushed the brake fully I probably would have gotten a tire screech from the car wash rollers.
WARNING!! Don't get the E- gear shifter cars. Get the old school mechanical shifter. Those are more reliable. I bought my 1st e-shifter car and my gears didn't work in 1st 24 days after purchase. My car had a software malfunction and all it takes is a software malfunction for your car not to move. Buy a Used 2018 or earlier model.
on the e-cvt is it possible to overide the system and select a lower or higher gear. As the paddle do regen only is there a way to select a different gear? like you may need a manual control for spirited driving?
On the eCVT transmission, there is no "lower or higher gear." It isn't really a transmission at all. It is an electric vehicle powered by a battery and a generator.
What would happen if you pull the emergency brake while driving? I the 2.0T and a very anxious teenage son who would like to learn to drive. If I needed to in my old car I could pop the shifter into neutral and pull the emergency brake, would it work the same with the push buttons?
You can still push the "N" to put the car into neutral while driving. Also, if you pull up on the emergency brake and hold it (keep it pulled up) it will apply the emergency brakes. I would avoid doing that unless you are going slow and its absolutely necessary though. If you just pull and release the emergency brake it will not do anything. Good luck with the driving lessons!!
I've had my Accord for 3 years now and I must say I do not like the push button shifter. But it came with the 2.0 T and I very much wanted that engine. I believed that I would adapt quickly Not so! It's just not intuitive like a lever is. Other than that I love the car.
Regular shifters are now electronic. The transmission is no longer mechanically connected to the shifter. It has been that way for most (if not all vehicles) for several years. Therefore the reliability is the same.
I had my 2011 Honda and sometimes it locked up and I couldn’t get it out of park, couldn’t start it and the steering wheel also locked up. That little panel released the shift lock. I now have a 2020 odyssey so I have to call roadside service to get it back in gear? Does that still happen in 2020’s?
Hi Brian so my 2.0 sport does not have that slot for the key. So I would have to do it manually. My question is where did you get this picture I need to bring that to the dealership cuz they can't figure out how to put in neutral cuz my car don't start. Bad fuel pump recall thing.
My wife touch the push button with out touching touching the brake to many times now my car won't start,2018 honda accord exl 2.0T how do I fix this..thanks in advance.
yeah, this seems like a flaw in design a manual override for neutral gear should be standard in every push-button vehicle, not just Honda! Making the customer or roadside assistance rep turn part of the transmission with a wrench could cause more damage to the vehicle if not done correctly.
I agree with the physical gear shift as a better option, but if Honda insists, can they at least put the buttons up higher like the CRV puts the shift so that it would be highly unlikely someone would spill something on the buttons?
The Odyssey has the buttons up higher on the dash like your saying. I'm sure Honda tries to find a good compromise between form and function with the placement of the buttons and layout of everything in the interior. Thanks for watching!
This is pretty simple. Its not difficult to see so many persons resisting the change tho. These are the same persons who thought a rotary volume knob is critical to a cars functioning.
I wish I could find a new vehicle without an electronic connection between the gear shift and the automatic transmission. All new automatic transmissions are electrically controlled now. Manual transmissions are the only exception I have found.
What if during an emergency someone pushes the button while still driving to turn off the engine (steering won't lock) and then press the Park or Reverse button? Will the transmission shift out of Drive into Park or Reverse will still rolling at highway speeds?
So when I park the 2.0 I brake with the car in drive (D) in a parking spot and I put the e brake on then push neutral (N). I then let go and shift it to parking (P). Is this bad or any harm to the transmission?
I hate push button shifters -- enough that I aint upgrading my 2017 ridgeline to the newer model and instead going somewhere else which honda engineer thought this was a good thing?
My exact thoughts. In the event your battery dies you have to pop.the hood and manually turn the gear with a socket wrench to put in neutral.. no thanks I'm all set.
Putting transmission in neutral (when engine is off) was so easy in manual transmission! Now I do own Honda Ridgeline and I hate button shifters.Honda Dealer did not know how to put transmission on neutral with engine off . Terrible.
how hard is it to hit the buttons while driving? would a cellphone, sunglasses, or some other item such as a closed drink be able to knock it into Neutral?
It takes a deliberate push of the button to change gears. I don't think accidentally dropping something on the buttons would kick it into N. Plus the P and N are narrow buttons. Not easy to accidentally hit. Then the R is a pull back button, so also not easy to accidentally hit. The D button is larger than the rest, but nothing happens if you hit D while your driving down the road. A lot of people seem concerned about the button shift, but I think its a solid design. You would be very hard pressed to do something that would damage the car or cause a safety issue.
Very helpful info for putting the tranny in neutral with a dead battery or no start condition. I needed this info to tow my 2020 Odyysey with push button tranny. Dumbest design ever. Why not put the neutral lock by the gear shifter like every other car company in the world. Had to remove air box, battery, plastic casing under the battery just to put the vehicle in neutral. Whoever thought of this was a "genius".
Working on a 22 Ridgeline i'm trying to appreciate this video for what it is but holy crap 7 min of listening to someone try and open a Rice Krispy square in my ear is just torture, especially when you've gotta watch all 7 minutes just to find the 30 second shift lock override explanation and still not even be shown the shifter shaft under the hood. Thank you for making the video because this information is very difficult to find otherwise but this is a very painful and overly complicated tutorial. And you left out the part about the 300$ tool that only Honda sells that slides on-top of that shaft so you can actually spin it properly without damaging anything.
I have a honda pilot 23, first honda ever, this button crap is the worst. Im surprised/ but i understand why no one has created an after market shifter to tap the buttons when shifting. But im going to have to engineer one and 3d print one and make it so that it has a botton pin to hit N and drive, a side pin to press with pressure releease reverse, and push release for parking. Yeah is dangerous because if it fails your a sitting duck and this will require compartment removal to add this custom shifter but also has to be develop to eject out of the way incase emergency happens and u need to remove it. I need a gear shifter.
so in the end should you need a tow and the engine is kaput you need to disassemble the airbox (requiring tools I can only assume.. 10mm bolts, and a bunch of clips, maybe a rubber isolator or two... sounds like a losing scenario there. most tow companies will just drag it, and say goodbye to your 10speed trans... that'll easily be an $8k repair bill....
Some of the Odyssey models you can get to the control shaft without taking anything apart. But on the Accord and Pilot, yes, it seems you would have to take apart the airbox to get to the control shaft. Fortunately, it will be a rare occurrence for any of these cars. Thanks for watching.
My neutral pushbutton light remains on but will function in PARK, REVERSE & D/S 2020 Honda Elite Passport what do I do to correct this issue 😕 HELP PLEASE
Everything is electronic on cars today. The steering is electronic, the throttle pedal is electronic, and so on. Even your regular shift levers on the CVT transmissions are connected to the transmission by wires, not mechanical linkage. There are pros and cons of everything. But if we never advanced or tried to improve we would still be walking instead of driving cars. Thanks for watching!
DELLA Honda in Plattsburgh it's not helping the the consumer when things break. Manufacturers are designing cars to be planned Obsolescence as all they care about these days is revenue. Not only they are getting more complex but they are getting more cheaply made cutting corners with cheap plastic parts designed to fail. Water pumps, turbines, raidiators and intake manifolds used to be made out of metal. I'm sticking to older cars. Tesla is by far the biggest money pit machine that America has built. Just one Electronic door hand on one of those things would cost you more than a thousand dollars to replace as they break all the time. It's impractical and not needed for basic operation of a vechicle as it's just a flashy gimmick.

No screw driver is included in the toolkit, assuming the driver even knows where that is hidden. Things are getting uglier year by year.
@@bobriemersma things are getting smarter. You should get smarter too.
I just checked my own car for the transmission nob, it’s very easy to locate.
Thanks for watching!
Really really like the shift button, like on a super car, and cant compare w the same sedan. Its Unique!
Seriously Honda? Disassemble some of the engine to get to the bolt that you need to turn with a wrench to get the tranny in N if the engine won’t start? What a cluster.
My thoughts exactly. Twice I’ve needed a tow for a no start issue and twice it was a huge ordeal getting it towed. Not to mention very dangerous
Agreed,so disappointing
Has it occurred to anyone at Honda, that if you need this much of an explanation on how shift gears in a car, maybe it's not a good idea?
They probably figured if you needed that much explanation, you probably aren’t smart enough to drive.
Will the buttons get stuck if you spill a beverage on them?
I think it would be the same for any other button in a car. Spilling something on it would not be ideal, but would not necessarily make the button stick.
yes
Valid point. Honda should have put the buttons on the dash.
No I spilt sprite on the shift buttons in my moms car and they still work fine
Some one will have butter fingers and fuck something up
I love this push botton so clean and Roomy...
What happens when your child spills all there soda in the gear shifter being that It’s right next to cup holder.
What's the difference between your kid spilling a soda all over the transmission in any other vehicle? Have your kid sit in the back seat if he's so young he doesn't know how to not dump liquids all over the middle of the car.
Their
It would not be any different than a shift lever. With today's cars, there are just wires connected to the shift lever and/or buttons. There is no mechanical linkage connected to a shift lever in a car with a CVT transmission. Everything is electronic these days. Thanks for watching!
Don’t have kids
Why are all these new Hondas in the shop or getting towed
Major flaw , fix it Honda, a safety problem, when vehicle shuts down in traffic, need a way to put the transmission in neutral with engine off while sitting in the car, my first Honda and this issue alone may make it my last

@@injusticejames 1) Got a flat tire on the highway. The car has no spare tire. While waiting for tow truck with flashers on, the battery died. Could not shift into neutral.

Luv u 2018 2.0 Honda Accord...
Wow love this push button gear it won't ruin the gear box by having people put it in park while the car is running in drive, same for reverse, thank you honda no cvt for me, 10 speed auto all the way
Thanks for watching!
@korbindallis what year was your push button gear shift Honda ? Mileage now on the odometer ?
Goodness, imagine parallel parking with that.......
exactly what I was thinking
I prefer to just have a regular gear selector that you just "feel" what gear you're in without having to look at what button you're pressing......sounds kinda slow and unnecessary to me to have to look all the time.
I guess you'd get used to just finding the buttons by feel eventually but I don't like it. everything is too computerized and electronic these days. I prefer mechanical things
HELL
How does having buttons affect parallel parking?
Do you know if the push button start has a sealant for spills? Thanks
Thats my question. I just got my ridgeline 2022 im scar to spill water 💦 there
Can I push all 5 buttons at the same time?
If you try to select more than one gear at a time, it goes with whichever one is pushed fractionally before the others. The car does not seem to get confused or anything like that.
It will not do anything it physically is not able to do. 60mph and push Park or reverse, you just keep rolling along (at 60mph!). The thing I don’t like , is it automatically jumps into Park when you have the door open, even just to creep forward a couple inches. The bypass on that programming, is to buckle the drivers seat belt. It also, to me, has more of a delayed response than the ones with an actual shift lever.
Yes you can, and it's equivalent to the red button in the MIB car.
You'll activate secret vtecxprnd
you tried!
Thanks a lot for the awesome review. Special thanks for mentioning the way to put into neutral without engine running. BTW, how to engine brake with these push buttons? I didn't see an L or B gear.
You can down shift using the paddle shifters on the back side of the steering wheel. Thanks for watching!
Informative! Didn't realize these trims come with paddle shifters
Thanks!
I notice your dealership logo on the touchscreen. What size and/or resolution do the images need to be to fit properly?
On the 2018 Accord touch screens the logo I use is 1050 x 750 pixels. Some of the other models can have larger or smaller sizes. Thanks for watching!
What shortcoming is this supposed to improve? I can't imagine any reason this is an improvement over a gearshift. Seems to me like this is just being different for different sake and makes things unnecessarily complicated.
Its really not complicated. If your in the market for a new car, I would suggest trying one out for yourself. Thanks for watching!
So I cannot actually MUTE the voice as it says I can in the manual?
What happens if lose the use of your breaks. How do you slow the car down with the push button shift?
There is any option to switch it to manual , and use the steering wheel shifters ?
Sport mode will let you use the paddle shifters
which direction do you turn it? righty or lefty (control shaft)
Thank you for the quick reply! And YES! I need all the luck I can get! :)
You said this new accord is a 10 speed automatic? Or is that the gears on a cvt?
gears
I've had my Accord for 3 years now and I must say I do not like the push button shifter.
But it came with the 2.0 T and I very much wanted that engine. I believed that I would adapt quickly
Not so! It's just not intuitive like a lever is. Other than that I love the car.
Isn't a regular shifter more reliable than a push button shifter?
yeah....there's nothing to break or go wrong. all this computerized crap has to stop
Mine has the static noise & looses radio connection reseting itself repeatedly 🥱🥱😞😞😭😭😭took it 4 times & honda can’t fix it
How do you put the Honda Accord in the pedal shift mode and then how do you take it out of the panel shift mode and put it back in drive
Thanks for the video. I wonder if the tool that I have for the Honda pilot and the Acura MDX will work on this car to get it into neutral
What is the S button for in my 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid. This is beside the transmission lever.
My wife touch the push button with out touching touching the brake to many times now my car won't start,2018 honda accord exl 2.0T how do I fix this..thanks in advance.
What if u want to rev the engine when ur comin up beside someone. Can u put it in nuetral rev it & then put it in drive again as ur moving .. tyvm
yeah, this seems like a flaw in design a manual override for neutral gear should be standard in every push-button vehicle, not just Honda!
Love the Honda, first one, had about 4 Toyota's prior, don't know why I waited so long!
For the Clarity PHEV, if the car can’t power on, how do you put the car in N for towing?
Is the shifter buttons water proof?
This is pretty simple. Its not difficult to see so many persons resisting the change tho. These are the same persons who thought a rotary volume knob is critical to a cars functioning.
Well, Honda heard the customers complaints and did bring back the volume knob for the radio in the 2018 models....lol
I love the push button. It takes up less room but in my old car I use to hang my lanyard with my keys on it. I can’t do that now.
No thanks. Too much unwanted tech ? God bless the manual/Auto gear shift lever !
I wish I could find a new vehicle without an electronic connection between the gear shift and the automatic transmission. All new automatic transmissions are electrically controlled now. Manual transmissions are the only exception I have found.
Are you dragging your microphone in your facial hair or what!? Had to mute and enable CC!
My question is what happens if you drop water o liquids there can you help me out please
How do I get it in neutral if battery is dead. How do I shift from park to neutral if battery is dead. Please help!!
Never mind. I just got to that part.
Do I press the break again every time I want to change gear?
I hate push button shifters -- enough that I aint upgrading my 2017 ridgeline to the newer model and instead going somewhere else
which honda engineer thought this was a good thing?
My exact thoughts. In the event your battery dies you have to pop.the hood and manually turn the gear with a socket wrench to put in neutral.. no thanks I'm all set.
Putting transmission in neutral (when engine is off) was so easy in manual transmission! Now I do own Honda Ridgeline and I hate button shifters.Honda Dealer did not know how to put transmission on neutral with engine off . Terrible.
What happens if it malfunctions?
Hi ! The reverse gear stopped working. Pls advice.
how hard is it to hit the buttons while driving? would a cellphone, sunglasses, or some other item such as a closed drink be able to knock it into Neutral?
It takes a deliberate push of the button to change gears. I don't think accidentally dropping something on the buttons would kick it into N. Plus the P and N are narrow buttons. Not easy to accidentally hit. Then the R is a pull back button, so also not easy to accidentally hit. The D button is larger than the rest, but nothing happens if you hit D while your driving down the road. A lot of people seem concerned about the button shift, but I think its a solid design. You would be very hard pressed to do something that would damage the car or cause a safety issue.
I recently just purchased a honda pilot. What would happen if I was in drive and I accidently hit the start button?
My park lights blink and unable to shift from park to drive or reverse
This is no longer automatic shift...this is SMART SHIFT! Way to go Honda!!!
Does anyone know if these Honda’s have a low gear mode for slippery or heavy snow conditions?
Yes... paddle shifter to manually select gear.
Was the audio taken from a bag of popcorn? 😁
Say you accidentally hit neutral while driving on the highway, would it hurt the transmission to shift to D while doing ~50mph?
Just like with a regular gear shift lever, no it would not hurt anything. Thanks for watching!

can you push the parking buttom while its on park more than once
Great Video. Thank you very much!
That will cost a small fortune once that breaks. Trading mechanical that was practical and reliable to electronic gimmicks turns cars into money pits.
It's impractical and not needed for basic operation of a vechicle as it's just a flashy gimmick.
what happens if you turn off the vehicle while its in D but you're holding the break
With the right settings, it shifts into park and engages the parking brake.
So, there is "Low" gear tgat is useful for going up or down a mountain?
You can turn on Sport mode, then use the paddle shifters to stay in a lower gear.
