You hit on a good point. When i was young with no responsibility, i was always inspired. I was carefree. Nowadays, my mind tends to be filled with heavy thoughts, hence no creativity. Thank you bad!

How true this is. I just turned 61 on 11/17/24, & I'm still going strong creating, writing & recording new music & then gigging with my own originals & after 50 yrs of playing, I thank God I never lost the fire to keep going. I also got back into art; painting & drawing, & now combine both music & art, in fact, I play at my booth ( sight & sound ) at the art shows we ( my wife & I ) do, & it bring a breath of fresh air to both, I plan on continuing for another 61yrs. LOL!!! Keep On Creating, Rock On & God Bless.

Brad, I'm your age. I've had my drive to play. Stopped. From fourth to fifty, I completely stopped. A bankruptcy, relationship ended, a dog died, could never find proper bandmates, I could go on. But my ideas for songs and writing lyrics to stories put to tones, that people would want to hear, were always floating around in my head. With today's technology I'm sure I'll be recording when I stop working when I'm 59 and have time and access to my 401k. Thanks for inspiring messages.

That intro reminds me of the Crowes debut album. The problem is when there are too many song ideas to where you're always recording new ideas when they come, leaving very little time to finish many of them. It can drive you nuts trying to decide which ones are worth pursuing. I have about 700 on this phone, 500 on my old phone and a drawer full of tapes. It's almost like a radio station from another dimension that only you can hear that turns on and off randomly, 24-7, and when it does, you have to drop everything and catch what's coming through. Creatiive and crazy might not be the same thing, but they're probably from the same neighborhood. Anyway, another great little pep talk. Thank you sir!

Have you ever been working on a new song or learning a new song and come to a tough part and you stop. Then go to bed with all the chords and changes running through your head all night. And then you get up and nail it. I find I am most attentive with a guitar in the mornings.

Some great ideas here. Agree...clearing your mental "desk" is crucial. Create the right headspace to tune in. Meantime...guitarists who play like no one else... Johnny Marr, Wilko Johnson, John McGeoch, Robert Fripp. If you're in a lull, you'll find something inspirational to spark you in that bunch. Any others?

Greatly timed. Several hrs ago I dug out several 4 track cd demo songs start to finish . Iron zmaiden / Lynch/Rhoads/Shenker- esque songs I recorded minus vocals back in 2009 and have sat on cause I can’t find “ believers” to sing/ play them in a band. And remembering I have 8 or so songs on SoundCloud. And , to me, sound so beautiful. That maybe I will try again. It’d be a shame to live and die and never realize the songs could’ve been worth something to others.

Other musicians, when I get the right ones to read each other is what inspires me.
Tonight's jam had some original fire that happened..
We had a chick singer two.drummer a couple.Guitars bass and keys and it's the best put together in 3 winters at the Gansevoort studio.
    Upstate NY winters.
My slide was on point tonight.
I bought a slide again. They always get stolen so I always just used a lighter. Can't use a finger slide.
But a lighter? I'm on point..wierd.i need to design a slide that sits in between the two fingers and let's me fret also.
We had so on the fly harmonies also..
Tara the singer looked at me wierd I said no. We are both in the right box it works she isn't used to that.
Her main band the guitar players don't do that it threw her off.
We recorded it listened back n she was astounded. That it worked.

Neil Young said buy a different guitar. Like, if you pay a Strat, buya Gibson or buy a 335 or get an acoustic 12 string and start the writing or study process with the new axe. I tried it more than once. I found it to be true.

Just inherited a five-string banjo and would really like to learn how to play, it's such a different animal than a six string guitar, if I could learn The ballad of Jed clampett The Beverly hillbillies by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs I would be one happy man...lol that banjo solo just rocks.
