Unfortunately, it’s way too much trouble to try and separate once you mix everything together. And they really do need to fix that triangle since everyone seems to figure that out even the first time they play.

Put a fixed amount of gold per mining area, thematically it makes sense, there's only so much gold to be had.
Also it makes it to where that loop expires at some point.
I'd say 2-3 nuggets per player, per mining area.
