Yeah the head shot is the actual little head but I bet that rumor came from the fact that in republic commando the red dot is their weakness

I always figured the red dot on a super battle droid was like a diagnostics/status light or something along those lines. Like it would blink when the droid needed its batteries recharged or it would change colors for different modes.
It also has this function, a few times in the clone wars when supers are shot down their light turns off, so it does indicate if its on or off to my memory.

Any metal in Star Wars both can and cannot be penetrated by any blaster bolt.
This theory is called Shrodinger's Shield. It states that metals are not newtonian solids when subjected to Star Wars but, rather, behave more like "creamy sheeves".

I'm pretty sure that would more chalked up to the fact that armour likely has fuck all in the way of heat resistance. Blaster bolts are plasma so there is both the concussive damage and the heat.
I've always had this theory that the armours you see in the SW universe are essentially having to make trade offs between one or the other unless you have beskar which can do best of both worlds.
The republic likely seems to have put more focus on the heat resistance seeing as you see clones get thrown back a lot from hits rather than burns, which makes some sense since they're more likely to survive concussive force than having their struck organs boiled. It seems droids went more concussive resistance cause that's likely cheaper and they're machines so it wasn't seen as a weakness, turns out they forgot that heat ruins electronics... Or they didn't and they just assumed replacing internals is cheaper than the chassis. Actually that could explain the super battle droid's sensor weakness, landing the shot can impart that normally blocked concussive force plus a shot of heat directly to the circuitry.
After reading the comments, I feel like nobody got what I meant lmao. In the video it clearly shows that aiming for the red eye can cause the blaster bolt to pass right through them due to a glitch. So I said this as a joke

It is an interesting fact, and it raises two interesting possibilities. Either the B1 was designed for its original chasis--which would make it overladen by the B2 armor and prone to problems--or it was designed with future upgrades in mind as much real world equipment is.
Star Wars often provides tidbits of military lore in its supplementary books. They're usually pretty dumb, though. I wish the various artists behind Star Wars would put more research behind their technology lore.
I always thought that red dot was just letting their engineers know they were powered up.

It’s likely their weakness in the show because of the blaster backs being used by their opposing force, the Galactic Republic. The GAR was known for using Ion blaster packs which gave them their distinctive blue hue specially because they knew that they were going to be battling against droids. Ion blaster packs are known to be more effective against droids than the more common and cheaper red packs.
Fr idk how people don’t know the blaster colors means the power/type of bolt. It’s not just good vs bad guys like lightsabers. Blue is ion and is best against droids so the republic used that. Red is the basic bolt that’s effective against low to mid grade armor and is the cheapest/easiest to put into mass production which is why the rebels used it and the empire gave it to ground soldiers. Green is the most expensive and highest powered bolt which is why the empire uses it for turbolasers and is part of the reason Star destroyers were such menaces in space battles. Yellow or orange is the lowest grade that is mostly used for training since it doesn’t cause a lot of damage but can easily be sensed to see if it was a hit.
@@Steamaroon Yellow is also used by the Mandalorians, no? And I think purple was used by pirates but those could've been disruptors, not blasters.
@@InvictusMatrix the color basically just depends what gas is compressed to make the bolt so some can produce the same color but have a different intensity. I don’t remember the purple ones tho
@@Steamaroon Yeah i figure the Mandos, Umbarans and others just use their own chemicals which results in different colors. As for purple, I think I saw it in a mod for EaW so it's not from Disney or EU.

Its the first thing I think of trying when playing a new starwars game with B2s. I think it worked in Republic Commando if I'm not mistaken

I seriously doubt it has the same ability that IG-100s have with the removed head considering - well - that's a notable trait of the IG-100 to the point they need to mention it in descriptions of the droid.
The B2 indicator light is probably either a battery notification, an indicator that the B2 is connected to the command signal, or a reminder that it is simply "active".
I think they can operate to a certain level without their head fully functional due to independent processors and sensors outside of their head but not to the degree a magnaguard can. They were specifically designed to keep fighting until they’re literally chopped to pieces which is exactly what obi wan does to it and it’s still making noises as it’s falling apart on the ground
Don't the B1's shoot without their head in the movies?
They can probably live without their head seeing as it's less head and more chest in their case. No advantage to putting the important bits up there

It's because canonically they use ion shots, which would fry their circuits and send an EMP through their sensors, short circuitung them
When I first seen the show I didn't even realize they had a head I thought the red dot was their eye
A weird detail is in ROtS when the 2 B2s on duty catch R2 and he sprays oil at them, the first one shouts "my eye, my eye" in singular form. Meaning even the creators were kinda inconsistent about whether the red dot is the droid's actual eye or not.
Always thought Super Battle Droids as mindless killing machines while regular Battle Droids were “real”soldiers with personalities. I never knew the Supers were just wearing extra armour that constricts their neck lol

In Republic Commando, they had a big red dot under their faceplate (it could be blown off in that game) that counted as headshot damage if you shot it with a sniper.
IIRC, in RotS when R2 is getting captured by these droids, he does something to that red dot and the droid shouts "MY EYE! MY EYE!"
In this game, you also need to slice up your Heroes a few times before taking them out.

I think this red dot is indeed a weakness in their armor. If its a sensor or even a simple light meaning "I'm on" it's linked to the inside on the droid, so armor is weaker in that spot (hole for wires) so when you look for a one shot kill it's seems like a nice spot to shoot

The thing about battlefront 2 was that with how close the head and chest hit ox was for them, it was super easy (haha) to headshot them. In an equally skilled match up between a clone trooper and a super, the super would pretty much always lose.
I'm wondering if this rumor was also exacerbated by Borderlands 2's loaders. In that game, their weak spot is a similar red dot on their left side.

No, the clone wars messed up canon as it so often does. As you said, the sensor is auxiliary in case their head is shot, shooting the sensor itself won’t do anything unless their head is already messed up
Even if it was a weakness no Stormtrooper could shoot it accurately
Firefights are fast and chaotic, I always aim centre mass and it usually works out fine
You can find the actual headshot point if you open the .odf for the SBD if you use the game's modding tools.

I know it's true, and have for years, but you still can't convince me that the super battle droids don't look like they have giant faces for torsos, their heads being some out of place nose, and the red sensor being a single eye 😂😂😂
Even if just shooting the red dot can shut the Super down in universe, I think both Battlefront games don’t count it as a head shot because game balancing.

Hmm, I am not entirely shure but in Clone Commando with the sniper rifle you where able to one shot the super battle droids in the red sensor. (most economic way to kill them is running in a circle around one and spam melee attack until it is down)

I mean 90 percent of the time we toss on a capsule collision for the body the arms barely have a hit box ever. Heads depend on if we want a headshot we may toss on a head collision. Not many people will go out of their way to put a collision box for that (besides it probably would overlap and cause errors). I think even Minecraft uses the same style of collision if not nearly. The default for any game is capsule mostly then add more for certain things.
