French château with private chapel, €527,000

- This French château with private chapel, to restore, would make a fabulous wedding venue - with three huge reception rooms downstairs and 16 (potentially 20) bedrooms: it was originally a (giant) hunting lodge.. and so the layout was always intended for hosting many people.
The château sits amid a huge forest - it’s so peaceful here - as if you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet the château is just 13km from the lovely university city of Poitiers (with TGV to Paris 1hr25m and Bordeaux), and 18km from Poitiers airport (London, Barcelona, Edinburgh).
Built in 1780, then enlarged seamlessly in 1850, the original central heating system is still in place albeit disused: designed to circulate hot air from a basement wood boiler to the ceramic-tiled boxes in some of the rooms - you will see one of of these in the video.
The main staircase’s walls have the original silk covering, once bright red they’re now faded to brown, but you can still find the original colour in some corners.
You’ll love the hidden doors in the panelling of the reception rooms and entrance hallway, allowing servants to appear and disappear with minimum disturbance.
In the hallway, you’ll see two glazed double-doors, one on each side - the one on your right is fake, put there for visual balance - the other side of that wall is the fireplace.
Heading outside to the immensely charming chapel, that can seat 40 - you can see this at 7m30s in the video, and on to an ornamental pond with a central island reached by a bridge (12m03s) - this directly faces the main entrance of the château, the front terrace and stone steps.
You approach the château from a quiet road, up a long private gravelled driveway with woodland on either side. The land size is 8 hectares, a mixture of woodland and pasture.
The château is to renovate, and is available at €527,000. The roof needs substantial work or replacement, and much of the building needs repairs, decorating and updating, so substantial investment is needed, but as you see here, the château retains its original features and marvellous character.

Saving a château, to rebuild its past, restore its present and above all ensure its future.🏰
What a beauty and with the little chapel.❣️
Haunting music. It was lovely. The beauty seems both loved and lost.
The DREAM! And a private chapel, too!
Very nice, good scale, great potential!
Beautiful but daunting. Lots of work inside and out.
Thank you for your comment Suzanne, and that’s very true, but for the right person who has a use for this kind of space, being close to a city, and has the budget and energy/experience to develop it, it is a wonderful find :-) Andy
What a beauty
Lot of work for giving the original charme , the volumes are ok,, but really needs a lover
Beautiful!!!!!
Could you please provide a link for the property listing?
Where is the kitchen?
@joannehenkie2781 the kitchen in chateaux like this is usually in the basement, if the previous owners didnt renovate one of the salons into a more modern kitchen on the ground floor
This property has lots of potential, does it have acreage for horses? The thing is, it is overseas and I am not too sure about the location, great prospect though. ❤
Hi Kimberly, it has 7 hectares (17 acres) and has fenced areas currently used for horses, the area is ideal (paths and tracks), indeed next-door are stables (that once belonged to the chateau) from where they do riding lessons. Andy
@@andyportsmouth Oh thank you so much for telling me that, it is really nice of you. They do riding lessons, I don't know how to teach I used to have 6 horses of my own but not all at once. I had 2 sold to had to go to Japan (No I didn't want to go) came back a year later got 2 more sold one and got 2 more sold 2 kept one another 2 years sold that one and have not had a horse since.
I’m in love! I need this beautiful property, with a chapel. Are the out buildings part of the estate? I’m loving this. Viva La France 🇫🇷
The outbuildings you see in the distance (they are the old stables) now belong to a riding school, so apart from the chapel there are no outbuildings now, Andy

@@andyportsmouth
Hi many thanks Andy, have sent two emails, using my real name.
Interessant.
That is a silly comment the building need love that’s all😊
