At 77, I've just discovered this in the midst of Covid and Brexit and Unemployment and world turmoil. I should be ecstatic but, having tried for 60 years to get a tune out of my guitar, I am now really depressed. But this is my best reason, this amazing playing, sad though it may be.
I love Vignola's way of playing guitar very much... He is one of the most dedicated gypsy jazz guitarists in USA! Frank is incredibly wonderful and neat guitarist! To studying by his methods and courses is a true pleasure!
I, too, discovered Tommy "late" - about two years ago. I've played guitar a long time, was out of the loop for a long time though, didn't play, but came back to it. Tommy's the best player in the history of the instrument, imho. It's as if he transcends the physical limitations of the guitar and the music just pours out of him and through the guitar - then out to the people. As if the guitar and all its many difficulties were no longer obstacles for Tommy - at all.
Thanks so much for posting a great piece of music played by 2 great guitar players! Hope things are going well for you, Frank and Gary. Saw you, Frank and the guys at SGF & Teatro Olimpico in 2008. What a setting and wonderful music. SGF 2009 was so cool too! Not to mention the "unplugged and up close" mini concert amongst the audience in Lonigo.Cheers Martin PS Happy Birthday!!!
Two guys who REALLY get Django, displaying a supernatural virtuosity verging on the ridiculous. What a privilege it is to get to listen to, as well as actually watch, this.
What I find most interesting is the guitar Tommy Emmanuel has selected for this performance: an old Kalamazoo. He sure gets a lot out of it. No real surprise there.
Dear Hala, It's so nice knowing there are such fine judges of character as yourself guiding us "asses" and pointing out Tommy's not so obvious personality flaws. Thank you for your assessment. And I also see that you're uniquely qualified to comment on "asses" in general. Now I better understand why our planet is so f##ked up.
@jimraw1 AGREED. 100%. I, too, discovered Tommy "late" - about two years ago. I've played guitar a long time, was out of the loop for a long time though, didn't play, but came back to it. @roygift I've only discovered Tommy for a couple of years but I'm extremely impressed by his ability. He is probably the most creative guitar player I've heard on the accoustic. While there are guitarists better than him in individual styles, I would say Tommy is as good as anyone when it comes to playing a variety of styles. (Btw - Frank Vignola is no slouch on the guitar either) - I also love the fact that Tommy loves playing with other great players.
Masters. Two of the best guitarists alive. I feel lucky to have them. Oh and hey Vinnie, if you read these comments, you're one of the best guitar players I've ever heard. You should make an album with Nels Cline and Frank and Tommy! Invite that punk, what's his nuts...Lage?? I kid of course. You're all MONSTERS. ALL Y'ALL.
No, don't invite the punk, please. But you are great, Vinny. I saw you, Frank, and Gary Mazzaroppi in Goshen, IN, on March 2, and for me and my four friends, it was the show of a lifetime.
Today is Django Reinhardt's birthday! He badly burned the third and fourth fingers of his left hand in a house fire at age 18. Doctors suggested he play the guitar to keep his remaining fingers flexible. In retrospect, that was fabulous advice. Can you imagine Tommy and Django in a duet?
I'd love to know what the standing joke is between Tommy And Frank regarding the phrase at 0:55. Whenever they play Nuage they always have a chuckle at that point.
@Haladhara1 if you watch tommy carefully, you see that he is just enjoying the music, and frank here is enjoying as much as tommy so i dont think he found it anoying. but ofcourse, i respect you but i think you got it all wrong when you watch this carefully ^^.
MR. Emanuel's playing is generally mainly chord work, and not necessarily scale based, which is much more welcome as too many musicians abuse scales already!
One of the greatest waste of time is reading comments from those who know nothing about the music, the genre, players, improvisation or a comprehension of what is involved. Stupid comparisons of the musicians from those who can't play, abound. Shut up, stop displaying your ignorance, and show some respect for those blessed with what you lack.
@Haladhara1 That is truly your own opinion and nobody else's, as it appears. I have a suggestion - don't listen to Tommy and let the people who enjoy him do so. We've had enough of untalented music critics finding faults with individuals who give joy to other people. By the way, your use of mundane in describing intelligence is not entirely correct. I suggest you learn the proper grammar of English.
Vinny and Frank are the TRUE dynamic duo !
Both guitarists Tommy and Frank are very complementary
This version of "Nuage" is absolutely brilliant!

Thanks Vinny Raniolo for posting this clip, you also are a great guitar player.
Tommy is getting better and better and better and better....and better

Listening to Tommy playing the guitars is food for my soul

Great piece, beautifully filmed, thanks Vinny. Loved all of your memorable playing in Sydney a year ago.

😍❤
Django would be proud I'm sure
proud of whom?
@@mrhomer4501 perhaps he would just be proud that his music has inspired and delighted for so long? Just a thought.
Both fantastic players but Tommy his phrasing is second to none!!!!
@Qpidon Getting Better ! Tommy is by Far the greatest Acoustic guitar Player in the world.
@Haladhara1 if you watch tommy carefully, you see that he is just enjoying the music, and frank here is enjoying as much as tommy so i dont think he found it anoying. but ofcourse, i respect you but i think you got it all wrong when you watch this carefully ^^.
Tommy brings a little more blues, and Frank brings a little more classical...great combination
tommy emmanuel and birelli lagrene. please lord.
J Will bireli is just an unmatched force in jazz; would love to see Tommy’s twist to that stage!
Really neat . Somehow, I like Frank's section better. He sounds a bit cleaner .

quelle musicalité , bien plus audible que certaines autres interprétations acrobatiques , trop chargées d'acrobaties ,
@Haladhara1 They trade off in this video, no idea what you're talking about.
@Qpidon and better :P
@stievelien and better...! ;-D
Frank only play this all his life lmfao

Tommy sacrifices tone for speed.
Nice change from the overnervous whackwhackwhack of gypsy "jazz"
pretty boring
