The Satanic Panic - Do Satanists Run the World?

- It started with The Exorcist and it ended with Pikachu - The Satanic Panic is a strange period of history that began in the 1970s off the back of McCarthyism and the Cold War and in many ways continues to this day. A time when people all over North America in particular became worried the USA, and maybe the world, was being overrun by satanists. They worried frantically that satanists were using media like music, movies, and even boardgames to control the minds of the population. Time for Kit and Rory to figure out whether there is any paranormal truth in the claims that the American people were the target of witchcraft and satanic rituals!

LETS GOOOOOOO!!! This is 100% my new fave episode! So much of this is new to me too, I had never heard of Natas Kaupas before but those skateboard graphics are sick!
Props to you for suggesting such a great episode! Everyone go check out Kasey's incredible TPL animations on their TH-cam channel!
@kcarboniart you do a great job! I really like your Ghost Files ones too! Those and TPL animations always add extra laughter 😊
Hmmm…. Something to think about…..
Was listening to this while ordering food, my total was $6.66. ITS REAL
Varg Vikernes, the guy who stabbed the other member of Mayhem, said that the church burnings weren't Satanic, but "revenge for the Christian desecration of Viking graves and temples". He also hated how liberal Norway was and thought life there was too easy. The guy from Emperor killed the man for being gay.
I was raised southern baptist, I am so thankful for the satanic panic of the early 80's. I wouldn't have discovered such awesome music at such an early age were it not for all of the books littering our house.
I was about to email in a suggestion until Rory told me to go F#(l< myself. 🤣
I lost it at 'something to think about' 😂 This is Rory's stock phrase too
"Bottoms up and the devil laughs" goes so hard. I need that to be in a metal song YESTERDAY. I mean, at LEAST a good pirate shanty.
But yeah, no, the key to avoiding having your kids grow up to be violent miscreants is literally to treat them like people and talk to them honestly. Demystify things so that they don't go finding out in practice. Have discussions with them about what's right and wrong, and MOST IMPORTANTLY the difference between fiction and reality. It's okay to like weird stuff, as long as you know that in real life, you can't go around solving problems with reckless violence. Explain to them why the 'shoot first ask questions never' approach that you have to have in some video games isn't an applicable strategy in reality.
Like, an example of demystifying: my dad smoked pot for my entire childhood. I found his stuff once and he sat me down and explained everything to me. I'm 38 and I've never smoked because I had all the information given to me up front so I could make that choice knowing the pros and cons. There wasn't a mystery about it that I felt that I had to discover for myself.
So yeah, I'm with Rory on this one. Just talk to your kids. Legitimately, knowledge helps everybody in the end. Educate them about how to be a decent human and let them educate you about why they like the stuff they do.
We absolutely do not claim that man
Yea we're pretty nerdy but he takes it too fat.
*far
playing d&d is a beautifully theatrical experience of a DM herding feral cats
Being raised by my grandparents, i was not allowed to play it😂
Banning doesn't happen anymore..... meanwhile Florida and books...
Monster MILF shirt? That's a SILB.
OMG, I’m dying. That was one of the funniest episodes ever! 😂 🙌
When I was a kid I was kicked out of a church daycare because I had Pokémon cards. They reacted so strongly about it back then it confused me.
Oh my god. This episode made me wonder, are either of you playing Cult of the Lamb? I mean, not that you need any extra experience or practice running a cult, but it could be useful as a test simulator before new laws are implemented.
At the moment Ozzy thought the bat was fake so he bit through it
@@ApacheDiego Facts. He had no idea it was real.
It would really shake the people that vomited over the exorcist if they knew the child in that film lives a normal life now hahaha
My apologies apparently he died in 2020
Cyndi Lauper went on record to say She Bop was about masturbation, so it really shouldn't be surprising it showed up on the PMRC's list.
Cool shirt Rory! Where did you get it ;)
from the shirt store duh 👀
i think this is probably my 2nd best favorite eps after the hum
thanks my dudes as always 👽🐍😈 have a great week 👍
So...what would happen, hear me out, if Pokemon drank a can of Monster?
I had to sneak in to watch SWEENEY TODD! 😂😂😂😂😂 good times 😂😂😂
LOL tell me again how the UK doesn't ban anything anymore .....
Rory can do coffee bean reading ! 😂
Love the fact this in the Monster Energy clip, the video is from the Daily Mail, who's logo is made up of the same disconnected lines, and also the middle one is crossed....! Is the Dairy Mail satanic? Oh, wait...
Can anyone link the animator they referenced? It’s the person that suggested the story.
Also, great episode, guys!
Kcarboniart is the TH-cam channel
It me!
@@kcarboniart It you! Awesome animations!
@@TooEagerTooTiredThank you so much!!
Alot of poking at satanic panic for guys who tried to summon a demon live on stage with an ancient Mew card. 😂😂😂
Lol this episode got me laughing way too hard. 🤣
I don't think anyone should be giving moral advice with a mullet that insane!! Also, based on his bizarre Pokemon nonsense, how come the groovy group Earth, Wind & Fire not on that banned list...
I have a degree in Religious Studies, and while I studied Satanism only briefly, I hope I can give some insight. Rory asked about why Satanists worship the literal devil but also have such an empathetic world view. While specific theologies vary, from the perspective of early Satanists, if you read the Bible (especially the Old Testament), it's not so hard to see how God might actually be seen as the bad guy. He commits a ton of atrocities and multiple genocides. Especially for people with religious trauma, it's easy to point to the lady you highlighted in the video, the religious establishment, and God, as the bad guys. Logically, then, the angel who rebels against a tyrannical and evil God would be the entity you would want to worship and support. Other Satanists posit that if God is perfect, then he couldn't have made something as imperfect as humans--we would therefore have had to come from an imperfect entity (i.e. Satan). There are many theological reasons why someone would want to worship the Christian Satan, and most are pretty well-reasoned extensions of Christian theology.
Thank you for that, that was really insightful!
@ddnndudeguy I've come to understand, speaking to a few satanists throughout my life, that they worship Satan because they don't believe he's real, because they don't think God is real. The part that I struggle with, from what you're saying, is they think the devil can create imperfect humans. The problem I have with that, is the devil cannot create, he can only destroy and manipulate. It was God who created humans, and it was the devil who corrupted them. They're very good at contradicting themselves. Any satanists out there care to elaborate? I'm having a hard time figuring out why you support destruction over creation. Evil over good...?
@@2A-ShieldMaiden I can totally understand your hesitation here. And you're right, a lot of Satanists (especially politically active ones), don't believe either God or the Devil truly exist. I think the dissonance lies with your and their underlying assumptions. I think for a lot of Satanists, it's the other way around--God represents destruction and Evil, whereas Satan represents creation and Good. It's a dualistic perspective that traces its roots to early Gnosticism. But it's important to remember also that not all Satanists believe the same thing (in the same way not all Christians believe the same thing). If you're curious, you can visit Salem MA--there's a huge wiccan community there, as well as the Church of Satan, and they often encourage questions like yours to help reduce stigma and build bridges.
Absolutely amazing, thank you so much! This is my new favorite episode!! Though, for some reason I thought you both would have dabbled a bit more in satanism as religion/ideology in your youth (I promise I was not yelling at my ipod 🙃).
Rorschach make up? 👀😂
Was the long hebrew tail erect?
In a double-blind, peer reviewed study conducted by Powers et al. (2024), a statistically-significant correlation was observed between the property of being a milf and loving it.
Also... I did not come here to hear Rory give reasonable advice at the end of the ep. LoL 😂
I remember the craze in the UK with violence in the 1980s Teenage mutant ***** turtles. Wernt allowed to use word ninja. What happened? All us teenagers rebelled and watched any martial arts movies we could get. Playing with nun chuks and ending up in hospital with concussion...true story ❤❤❤❤
This is why everybody was Kung fu fighting back then.
Nun chunks is what happens when nuns watch the exercist.
