I was really surprised that this show was held at the Armory in Somerville. I grew up on Spring Hill surface right across from there. And attended the Proctor Elementary School now gone. Yes a small show with what I thought poor lighting. I'm surprised that Boston with all its colleges, students and professors might be interested in pens etc., but I guess truly very few use fountain pens anymore, let alone write. I wonder if there still is even the pen ceremony at MIT as seen in 'A Wonderful Mind'.
I agree with you completely that you would think that Boston would be the perfect place for a really big Pen show. My suspicion is that it is a matter of money, because it is very very expensive to rent out a big space in Boston that would accommodate a huge pen show like the ones in the suburbs of DC or Baltimore. The same is going to be true of New York City. This is why I suggested someone look into Providence, RI as a possible location, because you will get Boston people and even people from New York, since it is on Amtrak. But putting together a pen show is a lot of work, and I am grateful to the people who did the Commonwealth Show, small as it was.
Oh no, you caught me sitting with Jeff, getting vintage nibs for my Chineses pens! It was a fun pen show.
