You speak so softly and gently! So patient with explanation, I felt peace from watching verses anxiety which is what I usually get when learning anything new thank you!
Fantastic tutorial. I havent tried this craft before, but I am eager to start. I had purchased a PDF download of a pattern from etsy, but the instructions werent clear, but thanks to this tutorial it is now clear. Very well explained. Thanks
Hi, thank you very much, great videos to understand how to start and develop book folding. One question. How do you decide the depth of the fold? You use the width of your ruler. Does it work the same way for all designs?
Hello, and thank you for watching. Yes, you are correct. The width of your ruler will automatically determine the depth of the folds as you work. The ruler-against-spine method of folding will work for all designs.
Hi, Kimberly. Thank you for watching. Have you had good results spray painting your folded book? I’ve never tried it. I figured that the weight and wetness of the paint would cause the pages to droop and wave.
Would love to try this... in time. I do have a question though about finding where to find a good starting point and IF it would actually work cause in my mind it seems like it would be a really simple way of making sure everything even but in practice, who knows but.... why no start from the MIDDLE of the book and work your way outward on each side therefore working your way toward the front and back covers.
You certainly could try that. Personally, I would find it awkward and difficult to work backwards toward the front cover of the book. But that method may work for you. Thanks so much for watching. 🙂
Thank you so much! I buy most of my books used, from thrift shops and used bookstores. Look for biographies and histories. Books in those genres usually have higher page counts than others. Hope this helps.
I am working on that one right now. ❤ I just started book folding and I love it. This will be book 3. I would like to see you do a video on cut and fold. ❤️🤞🏻
It’s great to see you here on TH-cam, Lynx! Thanks so much for ordering the Paw Print pattern. I’m glad you’re loving book folding. Excellent. Thank you for watching. 😀
This is so cool! Just discovering this. I do have a question…. The ruler you use looks thin maybe a little more than 1/2” The ruler I’m using (plan on using) 1.5” in with. If I use this one, the fold will be different. Do I need to get one like yours? If so, I need the measurements please. I can’t wait to start this, so exciting!! BIG THANKS!!
Welcome to the fun world of book folding, Marilyn! Thank you for watching. The metal Westcott ruler that I used for folding in the video is 1 1/4" wide. Your ruler that is 1 1/2" wide will work well. When you use the ruler-against-spine folding method that I demonstrate, the width of your ruler doesn't matter. Your ruler, no matter its width, will automatically set a proper angle for you, page after page. You don't have to think about it. Let your ruler do the work. When you start folding, you'll understand exactly what I mean. :)
I’m curious if you’ve tried books with gold edges. I would think that would be beautiful for certain patterns. I’ll check out your channel and look at your other designs. That will probably answer my question. I stumbled across your channel by accident. I’d never heard of book folding! I feel a bunch of Christmas gifts flowing from my hands! ❤❤❤❤❤
Hello and welcome to the fun world of book folding! I haven't tried folding books with gold/gilt edges, but I've seen gilt-edged books that others have folded. Those folded books are gorgeous. If you find a gilt-edged book, I highly recommend buying and folding it. You'll love the effect. Thank you for watching.
Hi. I have just found your video as I want to make one for a friend. Are you able to use this pattern with a smaller sized book? Or it needs to be exactly 22cm. Thank you.
Hello. The image of a pattern page that appears on the Paw Print listing is just a sample page. I included it as one of the listing photos so that you can see the style and layout of the pattern. If you order the Paw Print pattern, you will receive a PDF file of the full pattern plus a PDF file of a book folding guide that contains three bonus patterns. Thank you for watching. 🙂
So on the bottom folds you did small folds. Can you fold all the way to the corner of the book spine? Does it matter how big or small your fold is? If so how do I know how deep to fold the corners
Hi, Amber. Good questions. The ruler that you use for folding automatically determines the size and depth of the folds. You don't have to figure them out yourself. When you place one edge of the ruler against the spine, and the opposite edge of the ruler on the mark, the resulting line between the spine and the mark becomes the fold line. To see me demonstrate this, start watching the video at the 22:05 time stamp.
It's great to see you, Elizabeth! How wonderful that you created the Paw Print for the RSPCA. That is very special. Thank you for letting me know. And thank you for watching. :)
