    Just loved this exchange near the closing:
    "Perhaps some positive words from your end to close the conversation with."
    "I actually have no positive words. I think things are only going to get worse."
    Well, there you have it.

      I love it! I appreciate his honesty and I’m gonna admit that my least favorite people to interact with nowadays are those who willfully IGNORE reality bc it makes them feel bad. They think it’s negative and they want to hear some positive things. I wish those people would grow up and accept the negative. That’d be the most positive thing I could think of - cowards and fools accepting reality. Learning information and facts that aren’t “positive”.
      That would be the most positive change or news I could think of.

      I’m so sick of the people who say things are too negative and not positive enough. Why don’t people just ask themselves “is it true?” and then suck it up like an adult?
      Why do so many people have this idea that they’re supposed to go through life avoiding negative information? Where did these pathetic cowards get the idea that you can ignore reality if it’s too negative for you?
      I see it everywhere all the time with weak men and almost all women. “It’s too negative”.

    The interviewer thinking the bombing of the Iranian consulate having generals as even conceivably a valid act of self defense, is truly crazy and a wonder of propaganda success. It is routine for consulates all around the world to safely allow strategists to discuss confidentially foreign relations matters including military topics. They are considered territory of the host and strictly protected under international law. There are military discussions in US consulates all around the world - and daily. If North Korea didn’t like the subject of possible discussions in a US consulate in Australia, and blew it up along with its 14 people and some important US generals, and then a journalist said “But North Korea had a point, as there were likely discussions not friendly to North Korea about expanding AUKUS” then the journalist would be considered insane. How far does our propaganda have to go for it to be considered normal for Israel to blow up.a Iranian consonilate. Crazy times.

      there is a joke from the Soviet era :
      a Soviet & an American fly to US. the American asks, "Why do you fly to US ?". the Soviet as a response, "To study propaganda". "Propaganda ? There is no propaganda in US", replies the American. the Soviet thereafter, "Exactly !".

      And it doesn't need any more lands. It needs more PEOPLE, that's why it's liberating the Russian people of Ukraine. Along with the lands where their ancestors have lived for centuries. It would be simply unfair to leave their lands to Ukraine just because they were transferred to "Ukrainian SSR" when that "SSR" was a part of USSR.
      The lies about "Russian imperialism" would be laughable if they wouldn't be a base of conflict escalation and couldn't lead to a global war.

      Russia needs security, though. Russian history has been invasion after invasion, from Napoleon to the Germans (twice). Exactly. There is ntn baltic states have that Russia needs. That’s the reason for having no interest to invade other countries. Not only America doesn’t afraid not to get attacked. Russia also knows that it won’t be ever seriously attacked with having the most developed nuclear weapons and contemporary weapons. Professor is not being truly realistic on that. As long as the dollar is the default currency for world trade it is not easy to circumvent it: your trading partners will not accept other currencies because their partners also want dollars. And the dollar will remain the default currency for a long time because there is no replacement - the euro is big enough but the euro zone is an unstable construct, the yen is small and the renmibi is not fully convertible due to Chinese capital controls. (The ruble is both small and not fully convertible) Maybe one day the Indian rupee could replace it if and when India becomes rich and a global power. But that's quite far.

      @balazshorvath3736 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mark_2 To be the reserve currency the country of the currency needs to have a large economy so that the money supply is also large but beyond that its share in world trade is irrelevant. As the US is certainly big enough, its share in world trade is not hugely important because it is not only the US trade that counts.
      It would be impossible or at least very costly for trading partners/banks to have on stock all the world’s currencies. Eg assume that the Saudi oil company sells oil to 50 other small countries (bunch of African and Asian small countries) It is not possible that each of these trades happen in 50 different currencies or in the Saudi currency. Even if it were possible it is inefficient and costly. Take a Saudi - Ethiopia transaction as an example : there is no liquid market for the Saudi - Ethiopian currencies. However there is a liquid market between the Saudi currency and the dollar as well as between the Ethiopian currency and the dollar. So they price the contract in dollars, which makes the trade possible: the Ethiopians can get USD for their currency, buy the oil and the saudis can change back the received USD to Saudi currency.
      This the point: the status of the dollar as a reserve currency is not directly dependent on the share of the US in world trade because trades not involving the US also need a reserve currency as a medium. Only the currencies of big economies can play this role (but their share of world trade is not critical). The only three big enough currencies are the USD, renminbi and the euro but the latter two cannot be reserve currencies for the reasons mentioned (instability for euro, lack of full convertibility for the renminbi)

    • @Blashmack
      @Blashmack 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mark_2It's an undeniable fact, but changing the world economy is like a turning around a superheavy tanker: it takes time. And politics can change dramatically over that time. What is now me vs. you can turn into us vs. them by the time the balance has shifted enough.

    Why does US needs to defend Taiwan? For decades, there’s cross strait relationships between both the mainland and the island of Taiwan. As long as US does not interfere in their affairs then there will be peace. China has been very patient and if it wants, it can just embargo Taiwan and that would be disastrous to Taiwan but the Chinese are not that ruthless.No the majority of Chinese and the Taiwanese are not that silly to fight among themselves so that the US MIC can benefit. Ask any Taiwanese and they will tell you that US foreign policies are divisive.For MIC to perpetually make their profits , they will have to create imagery enemies. Yes Prof Mersheimer , I do not agree with him when come to portray the MIC’s status. Even past US President Eisenhower had warned us about the MIC taken control of the US administration, hence the US’ perpetual warsaway from their homelands.

      USA has its proxy (ddp) took the power in ROC and they have been educating Taiwanese with fake history and is going to form Taiwanese nationalist to confront Chinese nationality preparing for the separation from China. This is what US can use when time is right to burst a conflict across strait. That is why president Ci met ex-president Ma yin-jiu call for Chinese nationality recognition among Taiwanese. It can be treat as the last peace call from China and it seems not promising

      The US is only trying to hold China off just long enough to bring that new microchip factory on line on American soil, and as soon as they do, the US won't give a damn about Taiwan. Control of Taiwan by China would cripple the US's manufacturing ability involving anything that has a microchip in it; that's the ONLY reason that they're backing those guys.

Did the Nazis also force the Soviets to invade Poland and Ukraine in the 1920s before they existed? How about the Baltic states and Finland? Somehow the eastern European countries are not confused about this at all.

The expansion of the alliance is offensive and when they train they simulate actions against Russia and other states not part of the clique. There is no evidence to prove NATO is defensive unless you say good defense is offense. Whether NATO advance by force or by invitation, it must be forced to halt and retreat.

Seems to make so much sense on Ukraine but completely out to lunch (a classic neocon in fact) in the pacific. What he doesn’t get is that if some other country achieves regional hegemony that he believes they would behave like the US, or before that the UK. The Chinese have been that hegemon before and their complacency in military matters led them to the humiliation of the opium wars. The simple way to think of the USA as a trigger happy soldier while any one who understands the Chinese would simply think of them as a shrewd shop keeper. Even if the Russians were to adopt a US type of persona they are simply not strong enough to be a true hegemon either regionally or globally. China on the otherhand, by allowing them to be a regional hegemon, they have the resources both economic and industrially to replace the US as a global hegemon. John believes China desires this global hegimony, that is where he is wrong. He theorizes that every country desires to be a hegemon, but only countries that have hegemonic potential will ever act on it. That is why he seems like a classical containment neocon in the east and comes off so pragmatic in Europe.

Please do some authentic study on the India dispute and you will find common fingerprints... the UK.
      China claims sovereinty over the 9 dash line, Taiwan claims the 11 dash line, bet you never heard that one before! Let China negotiate territorial disputes with it’s neighbors and stay out of it, believe it or not good things happen when the US/UK stay out of it.
      As for the business of comerce in the South China Sea, you will never find one instance where the Chinese have ever interdicted a commercial vessel with a military vessel, it hasn't happened. There is someone who is capable of closing off the South China Sea and it weilds the 7th fleet. 90+% of all comercial maratime traffic travelling through the South China Sea originates from or is destined to China.

      Ukraine did a horrible job in those regions by forcing Ukrainian language onto people who never spoke it. Now though people are so mad at being attacked by Russia, they switch to Ukrainian voluntarily. Unfortunately when Ukraine became independent the people didn't realize how precious of a gift that was, and instead pressed on a ridiculous rural politics of re-sentiment. Russia is also lumbering like an elephant in a China shop - they have no finesse and no style, they wreck everything and the good will towards them in the process. Its a mess.

    It looks like this guy (John) lives in a different world very far from reality. Such "reputable experts" misinterpreted a number of terrible events which recently happened in this world, including the war in Ukraine, Israel-Palestinian conflict, etc. The majority of them predicted that Ukraine would fail in 3 days. Some psychologists call this "inertia of mind". You can clearly see that he is completely confused about so called "capability" whether it is a military or political capability. It looks like he interprets "capability" as something static. Think about the 2ndWW how the capability of the Soviet Union had changed/evolved from the beginning of the war... it resulted in halve of Europe being under the Soviet rule. He does not understand the post-soviet states and has no idea about what kind of proclamations Russia makes, what is happening inside Russia in terms of their war propaganda that targets even kindergarten kids, what ther schoolbooks teach kids about. They teach about fighting and present the West as an enemy to get them ready to fight. John completely ignores international laws and the rights of independent countries when talking about Ukraine. What about people in Ukraine and their suffering? What about Budapest memorandum on security Assurances for Ukraine that was signed by the US and other countries? In return Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons which was the 3rd nuclear arsenal in the world! He ignores a number of facts that USA is not as strong as it used to be, that there are a number of destabilising political and economic processes taking place inside the US that might lead to loosing their hegemon position in this world. 🤔 This world is not static, we can see how it is changing right now. Brutal sadistic power, such as Russia with its allies are which persecute their own people and lead absolutely terrible war against Ukrainians, should be stopped before it ignites 3rdWW and the whole world is involved in it.

      Yours is a typical European mindset. When you think of Africa, you think of the demeaning description 'tribes' rather than Africans collectively like you do Europeans. That doesn't mean that there are no tribes, just like there are also tribes in Europe, but nobody them refers to them. In Africa, we refer to them as communities rather than tribes, which is a divisive term coined by colonialists to enable their divide and rule objectives.

      What is to love? Theory devoid of context or cultural understanding. He tells it's a Western myth ('to support Ukraine') that russia has greater ambitions of conquest when in fact influential russians themselves are outright saying they have such intentions. Whether it is threat and talk or true intention is another matter but russia already demonstrated they will make irrational strategic choices in support of their delusions of grandeur. In that same way Mearsheimer's argument that russia won't attack because it lacks capability, falls flat. They do not operate purely rationally. Also his certainty that russia will win in Ukraine is baseless, unless you define 'winning' to the point that any damage to Ukraine somehow counts as a win for russia even if russia has lost far more than it gains in the process. Ukraine will survive as a state, very likely and russia will have destroyed its own reputation and economic prospects with the majority of it's potential trading partners for possibly the next generation.

    Hello. I am in Southeast Asia and was waiting for the analysis on Southeast Asia but it did not occur. I guess the Dutch show-runner can’t distinguish between South China Sea, East Asia and Southeast Asia, which I am not surprised. We don’t know the difference between Holland and the Netherlands either. Firstly, thank you. It was a solid interview. I am much clearer on the idea of Realism (that it is not based on reality but perceived threats). Yes, we think many Europeans and Americans are very soft-headed and cannot believe Russia is protecting its sovereignty. When you surround someone’s house with threats and the house owner has the right to attack you to protect his house. It is a simple idea but I guess in the West it is okay to do that that’s why in New York store owners cannot defend against looters and citizens cannot defend themselves against crimes. But when it comes to the China-Taiwan issue, most Westerners (including Mearsheimer) are wrong. There was and is no problem at all. Whatever the situation is, it is between China and Taiwan and no one else’s. The whole problem was blown out of context and distorted to the extreme by America to carve out an opening for itself to come in and have a say. It is like when you are talking with a friend and this nosy annoying idiot just butts in and starts talking about nonsense crap. It is exactly like that. America has no business in Asia at all. America has no integrity. Everyone here is fine until America shows up and sticks its nose in uninvited and unsolicited. It is basically very rude and bad behavior. But we all know that. America is just a selfish toxic prick who pushes everyone around for its own gains with no manners or finesse.
