    Thanks for the info! Any thoughts on the DAC and Headphone amps in the RME ADI-2 Pro FS / ADI-2 DAC FS?

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I haven't used either of these amplifiers before, so I can't speak about them with direct knowledge of their sound/DAC, but it looks like the RME ADI-2 Pro FS has incredibly low THD regardless of your headphone's impedance. This may be a good option for you!

    Could you please clear this for me. How do we normally connect headphone amps to a computer recording set up. What are the many ways. Thanks for the video.

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! You can either connect the headphones directly to the computer using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter, or you can use an interface/external amp that connects via USB or thunderbolt. If you're using an external amp or interface it'll need to be capable of D to A conversion. If it has a USB connection on it then it most likely has this capability.

      @@sageaudio Hi, any opinion of the Burson Audio Playmate 2? Ithink its not specifically for Mixing/Mastering. But do you think it would be good for that? I need to be able for it to connect to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 external soundcard. If it could work with the Scarlett, do you think it would pair nicely with Sennheiser HD 660S that i currently own..? 🙂

      Hey Mena! Thanks for leaving a comment. I've only ever used an hp4 when tracking, so unfortunately I can't speak to whether or not it's accurate enough for mixing and mastering.
      Also, I wasn't able to find a frequency response chart on the hp4, so I can't tell if it produces a relatively flat response.

    I noticed that at the end of the video there were AKG k702 headphones. (I think) I had already asked the question about the AKGk701 in several videos. but without a successful answer. i am new to working with a DAW. (I work with presonus studio one artist, and SSL 2 interface, & AKG k701 headphones). question: if I want to record a vocal I don't have enough volume with the SSL2 interface, especially for a rock song or for example a heavy song where you have to roar nice and loud; I only hear myself and almost no music (the interface is then at its loudest volume) so I definitely need more volume. which amplifier would be best for that.
    The AKGk701 is also an open headphone, I noticed that when I set the volume to its loudest in my vocal booth, the recording microphone slightly records the sound from the headphones. (not so bad in itself, because for other things he gives a beautiful representation). so I can also use another headset for recording. Most importantly, I need to have enough volume in my headphones; (after 20 years in hard rock scene, it is necessary ... haha). which affordable headphone amplifier can take care of that, or other suggestions. THx 4 the VID. (google translate i'm dutch.)

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Patrick! It looks like those headphones should be pretty loud given their relatively low impedance, but I get what you're saying since I've had this issue before as well.
      The best solution I think, and the one I use when I'm tracking my vocals but am having trouble hearing the music, is to first export the mix with a limiter on the master output to increase its volume. I then import that stereo mix into a new session and track the vocals over it.
      This way, the mix is loud enough to hear, but there is little latency. (If you try this by just putting the limiter on your mix session's output and record the vocal in that session, you'll most likely get latency that makes recording difficult.)
      Once you're done recording your vocals, export just the vocals, and then import them back into your original session, take the limiter off the master output and continue producing/mixing. Be sure to maintain the same sampling rate/bit depth throughout this process.
      I hope this helps!

    Any thoughts on the new Capi 500 series lunchbox headphone amp? I was looking for $500 or less and it appeared on my radar. It’s suppose to be similar to an API board headphone amp. Build prices are $270 and do it yourself is around $160 plus soldering. I was actually going to get it and Gearslutz members were praising the Schiit 3 to my surprise at $99.

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matt! Thanks for reaching out - although I haven't personally tried this headphone amp, the headphone amps on API consoles are fantastic. That said, if you get to try this one out and find that they're similar then it definitely sounds worth it. Sorry I couldn't give you a personal opinion about the amp - hope you find one that works great for what you're doing!

    How would you connect these to your computer?? I need help 😂

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! It'll depend on the headphone amp you're using. Some have D/A conversion - in this instance you'll be able to connect it directly to the computer using a USB port. Some only accept line-inputs - when this is the case you'll need an interface or other D/A converter to convert the digital signal into an analogue/electrical one, that is then fed into the headphone amp.
      Thanks!

      Hey Deciverse! Thanks for the comment! Looking into it, it seems like a decent option. It has low THD and XLR inputs - couldn't find any info on the frequency response, but if it's relatively flat it'll work well for mixing and mastering.
