WOW ! I have a lump in my throat watching this. Great memories. Probably the best open air gig i've seen. I miss days like these SO much !!
I was there as well. First big gig at the age of 18, and loved every minute.

Great footage!! I am from Yorkshire and saw this and the other Look North special on The Minds when they were originally shown in July 1989. Didn't get to Roundhay but went to Wembley Arena a few days later and this really wetted the appetite! Shame there is not more 89 footage, particularly around the outdoor shows. In my top 3 tours, with U2 ZooTV AND 360

I went to this concert with a mate in his clapped-out Austin Allegro which only just made the M62 climbs to Leeds, it was a boiling hot day. All About Eve were in support, a group I still enjoy. I liked Simple Minds up to the early 90`s after which I just listen to their old stuff.

Simple Minds the most underrated band ever!One of the best live band ever for me(with Muse)! the last 2 Minds cd are awesome(if u2 had done,the last 2 minds cd,they have reached the top of the charts!!) and by the way j'm a huge u2 fan,but j love u2 because of simple minds! any chance to see others videos of the 89 tour of the minds?

I was there front row went in gate 17 ran for my life got to the left of the stage.....VERY HAPPY DAYS!!
OMG You just made me cry I had the best day of my life.
I remember this day soooo well! I was only 15 and seems like the passion and emotion of these times will stay with me forever.

brilliant live band i worked for showsec here and the week after at cardiff arms park .managed to speak to Jim and Charlie breifly backstage fantastis memories
I was there! The best day ever, support was great and Simple Minds were fantastic! I was only 17 at the time but still remember so much about that day!
Me and me mate was there but had to go early as we where working nights that nite but what we saw was awesome🤘🤘🤘🤘

Blagged my way backstage after this and met Charlie and Mick...Jim was 'busy' unfortunately. Very happy memories. I nicked Mick's tea cup after he put it down on a grass verge to sign a few CD inlays. His last tour with them.

I went to this concert, like so many other people, they seem to go together with u2, seen minds 5 times in all,saw them 3 years earlier at milton keynes bowl, right down the front, to this day still the best concert ive been to, the cult supported and were also excellent!!!

It was actually on 23/7. And the support acts were All About Eve (they cracked a couple of jokes about that bad TOTP experience,) The Silencers, and Martin Stephenson and the Daintees)
I was there; Martin Stephenson and the Daintees were on fine form as they so often were at Leeds gigs in those days.
Never right inwas here 23rd July 1989 .it was broad daylight .and there is only four minutes coverage .of this concert . Round hay park Leeds. United kingdom .I have searched for years all music forums even emailed the fan club .no reply very sad from a super super fan .I also saw them bk in 2015 Leeds first direct .arena .wow that was out of this world

Wow. The summer of 89 . I was there , 22 with my 80,s hairdo, look how we dressed then, so cool we thought. What a concert, the best apart from taking hours to get of the car park, ha ha . Don't you forget about simple minds.

Remember almost fainting due to it being f@@king hot. Got pulled over the barriers and looked after by the red cross. Soon back into crowd though as it was too great to miss

@kaniep2011 To this day All About Eve got the best reception I have ever seen for a support band . Really set it up for a blistering SM set. Brilliant day .

just 19 then, 1st ever open air concert.
Some one ask the question were is all the video footage archive we paid for the tickets we have been robbed . I have searched for years and asked simple minds fan page why we cant see all of it
I ended up getting a migraine .with the sun and how hot it was .I missed most of it I couldn't see .I couldn't leave because .my ticket .I bought .came with .coach travel .hundreds of coaches .and me and my mum who went with me got on the wrong coach .ffs and I had to get it off coach driver .oh my days .bless him .he went . Round his .firm and got it me .I made up for it tho in 2015 insane them in my own region .I was right at the very front .
Play big sleep at my funeral or wake .wear bright coloured clothing .get drunkn.and merry .what ever .you6 tipple be .or even a .smoke if that's your thing .no body .will be bothered .cos half of my kids and family .smoke it .ha ha .dance. with your hands in the air .and never stop clapping. To promised .you a miracle .

God I remember that day. Boiling hot! Does anyone recall the support act? There was some nutter there at the front who was there just for the support and was going crazy when they were on.
I had to walk the 5 miles home afterwards.
Went to this and it was great apart from the hot long wait ……one in beer over the fence then second one in 😂
I was there. All About Eve were great.
I have searched for years .endlessly .on every music channel .music source. On this planet. What a let down you. Could not take .your refreshments. In the parl . There was thousands of bottles .Cans .etc

Support acts was 3 bands: The Silencers, Johnny and the daintness and All About Eve (fantastic performance of "In the cluds"). Unforgettable day. It's true: Simple Minds rule !

I was here with my mum I bumped into an old very best school friend
I had to.leave school early so I didn't get to say goodbye
To her .of all the places .we we had our tickets booked .but we didn't know you got them off our designated coach driver well seated driver who shouts out named. With tickets .after 1 minutes or so me. and mum .look at each other in dismay . I said mum quickly and quietly. Mum say something .so she says driver .
An old ish gentleman about 50 ish. He replied . Call me Tony. Mum says Tony were is our tickets. He pauses .slightly rubs head .he says were are .you .from .bear in mind we got the train to the coach station Sheffield .south Yorkshire .England. I said to him he laughs b.and said .your the wrong coach cut .a very long story short .he says I will when we get .to l roundhay park Leeds. I will go round the coaches and buses .and get your tickets well say rough guess . 80 coaches etc parked up .in car park true to his.word .and I'm thinking not today all. My life .I wasnt .going to see simple minds live
But did .I was 18 .at the time. Mum was 37 .and to this day I owe my life and memories or Tony
Our designated coach driver half way through the concert I came down with a migraine I had blurred vision .so i couldn't see properly was hear t broken
