actually average is around 8-9 lakh but it is not about packages. Most people in IITs prepare for UPSC and IIMs and some even go abroad for further studies. If you mention IITs in your resume most good universities would give you an preference. Thats why some clear IIT and some do not. They love the subject not the package.
