He was 100% accurate on everything he said too. It’s sad. I mean except the part where he said he doesn’t understand why Dodge is so anti-EV, that part is simple to understand: Stellantis and new regulations are forcing them into the EV market when that’s the antithesis of dodge’s performance line. What I do agree with, however, is his characterization of the company’s culture and attitude towards making EVs: The company hates making them rn and the car reflects that. It’s like they didn’t even try to make an impressive EV, everything about the design is just trying to cling on to every little bit of ICEs that they’re allowed to keep. It sucks. If they were going to make an EV, whether forced or by choice, they should’ve gotten over the slump, embraced it, and made a more concentrated effort to create a modern, desirable EV. No 497hp 650hp bs for double the price of every other EV. The horsepower on these EV dodges is atrocious compared to literally any other EV, ESPECIALLY FOR HOW SHORT THE RANGE IS. Sucks.
Yup. If you want an economical EV you're not gonna buy this. If you want a rapid EV you'll go Tesla. If you want a rapid EV with flare, you'll go Audi or Porsche. If you want Muscle V8 you go Stang, Certain Astons or Mercs. This is a nothing car. California ruins everything. Since they became a super majority state, they just follow the European Union like a little dog desperate for approval. The consumer should be given the option. But instead , a particular 'side' of government wants to push people into an EV, even though if they really cared about emissions they wouldn't want people buying new cars at all and they'd reward people looking after older cars. As an example, you'd need to drive an E46 M3, 12,000 miles a year, for 27 years before you'd have equalled the emissions of producing a brand new Tesla Model S on 0 miles. But they won't and they don't.
That’s a good call. I could definitely see them bringing back the neon nameplate throwing a nice little battery in there and being a model 3 competitor.
I feel the commentary on this video is probably the most fair I've heard so far. This thing is DOA. They'll never be able to replace the $30,000 Charger SXT. $50,000 for a car that sounds like a vacuum cleaner. It's a nice evolution of the Charger, but to replace the Charger and Challenger with one style is ridiculous.
Yeah the cost is what is most unappealing to me. Right now its making me eyeball a $36,000 Hyundai EV6 for real. The real thing I'm waiting for though is to see how Dodge's 6-cylinder hybrid comes out. Like will it be a plug-in hybrid with decent gas mileage and performance at a reasonable price?
Suffice it to say this is probably the last Dodge event Rich gets invited to. 10:46 "...how she goes from a 4 to a 6... and that's kinda what's happening here."
It’s not 62,000 it’s 70 to 72,000 for the RT and 82 to 85,000 for the scat pack. You’re welcome. Every dealer that has it for sale right now that’s the price.
I hate these manufacturers who try to brand their cars as something they are not. BMW is a prime example, They start badging their vehicles with 'M' on everything, yet do no not have the powerplant of a real 'M.'
I agree! The Corvette is a front engine car and the C8 is not. You can't wipe the drawing board with a new platform and rebrand it as something it's not.
@USMC1997 the low center of gravity makes a huge difference. A Tesla can out maneuver a Corvette. But all those techy safety bits, muzzle all of the power available.
@VaporheadATC I'm living in some kind of alternate reality. Where psychopathic billionaires rule the world and people are so pathetically worthless, they vote against their own interests and pay outrageous prices for cars that are as exciting as going to the dentist.
Rich was trying not to get kicked off the test area 😂. Soft en gentle on the review. But the dude at the end, brutal! Haha. He went straight into it with two fists and both legs
In my opinion, if you’re going to make a muscle EV, it needs to look so aggressive, even more aggressive than a wide body charger, that people want to buy it just for the looks alone.
How tf is there not a simple 400hp coupe EV that looks good for like sub 40k yet. Like the EV version of a BRZ. Doesn’t even need to have a good range like 150 miles would be fine, just make it handle well, look good and have some kick and it will sell.
Prefect take. They could've kept the design similar to the current car and just turn it to an EV. This is ugly on top of everything and they're trying to sell consumers on fake exhaust noises

I don't understand the "Power Shot" button at all! I thought your right FOOT was pressing down on the Power Shot! Don't get me started on the fake exhaust!!! I really hate gimmicky crap!
The exhaust sound file needs to be open sourced. Adding a supercharger whine or turbo whine, burble, and blow off would work to replace the artificial sounding "exhaust simulator". Shifting through an "infinite gearbox" would be weird. But, Hyundai did this with a "manual gearbox" and that enables drifting...
Thank for recognizing us window people lol I can't afford a fun car but love nothing more in this world, I appreciate the people who give you a little rev when they notice the window pop. Legit makes my day just hearing something awesome... Something real not a speaker. Your Hellcat IRL makes Forza audio clips seems dull.
Because they wouldn't accept. They understand that dodge put fake exhaust sounds on this car for the sole purpose of tanking the whole project. Nobody at dodge could have ever actually thought this was a good idea and would sell units. No way. It was done so stelantis would finally get it and go back to ICE.
I can't get over how awful they made the fake engine noises in the Ioniq-N. It's like something I ran off of DOS on a 486 or Pentium 1. This is better than that (still not exactly great). To me it's been blatantly obvious for years that an opportunity exists to make virtual driving experiences of legendary cars with fake gears, recreated torque curves, and high fidelity sounds in full Atmos surround sound mapped from the actual car. The Ioniq sorta tried, but whiffed so hard.
It's not a muscle car, it's a generic electric sport car, Stellantis is known for refined handling and suspension but that's not what you want in a muscle car.
The window roll down example is 100% true . I even do that in my subie with full tomei which sounds amazing btw, I roll it down to hear anything that should produce a good exhaust note
It’s wild to me how spot on this Dodge thing is to that Vince Vaughn/Kevin James movie The Dilemma. It’s almost like Dodge was trying to plant an early seed through them lol.
Even the presenter looks sad showing the car off. Who did Dodge make this car for? Certainly not any of their current customers. No one who was into hellcats or Mopars in general asked for this. No one outside of previous dodge customer was like, if only muscle cars came in EV form I would buy one. Does dodge even know who their customers are? Do they have any left? This car is going to be the biggest flop in automotive history. This car is bad, real bad. If I was a betting man I would be shorting Stellantis stock like a mad man right now.
Management. The board told them they needed to innovate, so they unilaterally decided that this is what buyers want without listening to knowledgeable people who work for them. It's embarrassing as an engineer to implement something you completely disagree with because someone 3 management levels above has made a decree. I think Dodge fans would be all over this if each trim level was $20k cheaper and had maybe 30-40% more power. It’s a great looking car but it just feels like a lazy attempt to cash in on a name rather than trying to make a competitive vehicle.

If the car companies have to abide by these new MPG rules, why don't they sell you the car with an installed 4-banger, then set you up with a company to convert it to a Hemi? Then the car company would buy back the 4-banger and put it in the next car for sale?
Because this is more profitable and they honestly don't give a shit about selling you a V8. But hey you could always go to your local CDJR and buy a Hemi, I guarantee the lot is full of them also would be illegal to register for roughly 50% of Americans 👍

I think dodge did it specifically to make it look so ridiculous, stelantis would reverse course and go back to real life.

Outside of no V8, and it being one of the slowest EVs on the road. If I was a consumer I would be furious to know that I was being over charged on the Scat-Pack now knowing the power difference between all trims is simply what software they are uploaded with💀
Tesla used to sell the standard range and long range cars with the same battery pack, just software limited. After a few years they did actually give you the option to "download more range" for a fee
> it being one of the slowest EVs on the road
this is the biggest problem of this vehicle that the EVangelists that try and hype up this lemon can't see for some reason, literally every other option within its market segment is better
This is the reason I won't buy an ev. In modern times you don't own the software, it's licensed. The software controls the entire vehicle. it's useless without it. you shouldn't have to pay extra for the opportunity to use hardware you already purchased. or unlock features that are already equipped in the vehicle you own. it is one step away from subscription plans to options that can be turned on and off.

"Out of spec motoring" had me dying when he goes "well ill never be invited to a dodge event again"
Sucks.
"Lets make a car so unappealing to our customer base nobody wants to steal it"
Don't think they make cars for people to steal em anyways
Even the presenter seemed unconvinced
Mission Accomplished!

A small cheap electric neon would be the only move. This thing is silly.
That’s a good call. I could definitely see them bringing back the neon nameplate throwing a nice little battery in there and being a model 3 competitor.
As an srt4 guy, I agree but also please dont
Neon and a SRTeV would’ve made perfect sense. Aimed at the Model 3 for range and the Kia/Hyundai offerings for performance.
the neon would have been perfect for it, all the hype of the electric craze, along with the cheapness of a neon
That dude from "Out of Spec Motoring" nailed it with his comments and had me dying! Can't wait for his review!
His review was out days ago already.

I agree with Rich, I rolled my window down once to hear the sound of a v12 Ferrari that rolled up next to me at a stoplight...
I feel the commentary on this video is probably the most fair I've heard so far. Really appreciate the honest praises where the car does succeed and level explanations when it comes to the areas where the car doesn't succeed. IMO, too many reviewers have been hamming it up for the camera. Really appreciated this video!
Why do they try to imitate gas cars with those sounds? That feels just so gimmicky. I just don't get it.
No kidding, and the fact they call it the 'Scat Pack' when that should only be associated with the gas engine.
Why does Beyond burger, imitate beef?
How many speakers there is underside?
I think call it a "Scat Pack" is perfect, only this time it refers to that word's other meaning.

Stellantis has absolutely destroyed dodge and Ram. What a shame.
They'll soon join Nissan. And that long list of companies who waited too long during a transition in their business.

I like how they basically just say the trims are almost purely just dlc
That’s what I noticed most. He really didn’t want to admit it’s all just trim and different limiting of the same hardware.
It ends up being cheaper to make them that way. At least the low trim get a better battery degradation rate out of it.
@@Voyajer.Sure it's cheaper but it also feels like crap for everyone who buys the car. The people buying base feel like crap because they know they're just carrying around extra dead weight purely software limited and the people buying the higher end trims know that they have the same car as the people buying base. It only feels good for the manufacturer who most assuredly hasn't passed any savings on to you.

The exhaust sound file needs to be open sourced. Adding a supercharger whine or turbo whine, burble, and blow off would work to replace the artificial sounding "exhaust simulator".

As the guy who took a PT Cruiser to an SCCA national championship race (really), I think I'm qualified to opine on Mopar enthusiasts. And exactly NONE of them want this car. And exactly ZERO EV buyers want a Dodge. So congratulations Stellantis, you made a car that appeals to exactly nobody.
The Venn diagram between EV buyers and Dodge buyers are two separate circles touching eachover.
If the car companies have to abide by these new MPG rules, why don't they sell you the car with an installed 4-banger, then set you up with a company to convert it to a Hemi? Then the car company would buy back the 4-banger and put it in the next car for sale?
That would not be CARB compliant, which like 17 states follow
Because this is more profitable and they honestly don't give a shit about selling you a V8. But hey you could always go to your local CDJR and buy a Hemi, I guarantee the lot is full of them also would be illegal to register for roughly 50% of Americans 👍
So they want to up charge on upcoming models for different software is what Rich caught the rep on is what I thought was big.
