I will give you some information before asking you to write an article. Do you understand?
    Step 2
When it comes to writing content, two factors are crucial, "perplexity" and "burstiness." Perplexity measures the complexity of the text. Separately, burstiness compares the variations of sentences. Humans tend to write with greater burstiness, for example, with some longer or more complex sentences alongside shorter ones. AI sentences tend to be more uniform. Therefore, when writing the following content I am going to ask you to create, I need it to have a good amount of perplexity and burstiness. Do you understand?
    Step 3
Using the concepts written previously, rewrite this article with a high degree of perplexity and burstiness

I am grateful, Jamie, to have a fellow teacher explain this profound new software because we work in the same domain with similar constraints. I taught high school for 17 years in Canada and college for the past 17 years so I know the ropes. But this new technology is a dream come true, but is being received by administrators as a nightmare. Hats off to you, my friend, for another excellent tutorial!

With technology like this, as educators, instead of resisting change, let's embrace change and raise our standards and increase our expectations. With things like ChatGPT in play, I should never ever have a paper turned in with any grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors. Ever. Grade accordingly. Instead of banning its use, encourage it and then the narrative amongst our students will shift onto how to use the A.I. better, opposed to how to get away with cheating.

I agree! This will raise standards. The ability for students to learn how prompt AI will be important. This will take critical thinking to get the best results.

Jamie, I love you. ❤️ 🤣 I cannot begin to tell you how concerned I have been with my 7th graders using this. Really does feel like we're shooting ourselves in the foot academically. But I can how useful this can be, and knowing there are AI detectors out there makes me feel so much better. Definitely subscribing and looking forward to new content.

It really seems it will be a cat & mouse game for students who truly want to beat the system. Adding burstiness & perplexity, maybe asking for a spelling error or grammar hiccup on purpose.
I begin a new semester in March, teaching an advanced EFL academic writing class at a university in Korea. I think I'll address the elephant in the room right away since I'm already seeing coverage of ChatGPT in the Korean media. I was thinking about taking an in-class writing sample on day 1 to use as a barometer for measurement of individual assignments later in the semester. I might also exaggerate the effectiveness of AI detectors such as GPtZero to spook them a little! Still, they could easily request something granular to the effect of: "Write a 6-paragraph argumentative essay on _____ with a strong counterargument/refutation at the level of an advanced EFL university class to achieve a score of A-."
I emphasis the importance of the writing process, and each essay takes about 2 weeks to compose in and out of class. I'd hate to resort to all in-class timed writing assignments, but who knows. I'm both excited and nervous.
Thanks for another informative video Jamie :)

One unfortunate part of ChatGPT is that it's clearly socially and politically biased. So, depending on one's assignments or intentions, getting it to find and create objective and unbiased material won't happen.
