When my own children were young and very active in sports and school I would give them a mental health day. They'd be irritated or picking on each other or picking on Mom. So I would book an appointment to take them out horseback riding, call the school that my children were not feeling well which was true. That time and effort made a difference, it rejuvanated them. I would do the same in the long winter months, noticing their behaviour and realizing they needed a break.
