  • A Cub Scout in Broomfield, Colorado was kicked out of his den after asking tough questions about gun control to Republican State Senator Vicki Marble. Ames Mayfield and his mom Lori say that despite other scouts also asking political questions as well, none of the others were reprimanded in any way, to their knowledge.

    I'm sure that every kid had the help of their parent. He could have left out, "why on earth." He's pretty precocious, I believe he came up with his own questions. Kid watch the news and read the paper too.

    You can hear the kid talk. He's clearly smart and self-aware. I don't believe this kid was just doing what his mom told him. I think she probably read the question and was proud of him for coming up with it but beyond that it sounds like it was all him.

    So for this kid to say for people who beat their wife is a very narrow part of a broad law. Just sad his mother would have aloud him to make such an ignorant statement, :/ and in turn get him kicked out. Blame the family. "You hit anyone your living with and now you aren't aloud to have a gun to protect your future family?", is all the senator had to say.

    Concerning the comment on the BBQ and chicken, they had the actual clip of the senator during that poverty meeting...I never heard the word "black" in it, and yet when you look at Ames' question to the senator, he equates black people with BBQ and fried chicken. Did I miss something? I grew up in the South and yes, we have awesome fried chicken and BBQ, but that is true of the entire South, not just the black population. From what I heard the senator actually say, she never targeted blacks at all.

    He should not have been "booted out," but I don't know (and neither does anyone else) the content of the conversations. As a scout leader for 12 years, I certainly respected a whole host of principles and ideals held by different boys and their parents. However, once he started fingerpointing at a particular political party, the question (actually editorializing) went way off track. Keep your questions on point. Don't editorialize and scold. I can also attest that scouting has its share (LOTS) of personality conflicts and squabbles between scouts, parents and leaders.

    Hardly a tough question. You don't have the right to have either for FREE. No one is making your gun unaffordable so "free" guns can be given to those who can't afford one. What doesn't make sense is the government taking something you've already purchased and live with, and quadrupling it's cost so it can be given for "free" to someone else (healthcare). Won't do it to your guns, which you actually have a constitutional right to own, but they will make your own healthcare unaffordable so someone else can have it without paying. Educate yourself kid, or mom, and try again.

    1) I personally don't think Ames should have been kicked out, buy I am not privy to the internal discussions going on within that scout group. It's probably more complex than this fake news station is making it out
    2) it's so obvious that this was a question prepared by the Mom. Really, shame on her for politicizing the scout group. Ames had a chance to ask questions about civics and how government works, but instead was spewing a monologue written by mom. Stop using your kids as political shields to virtue signal
    3) Marbles response was pretty good, wish the news station gave some coverage to that.

After all the two stars on any scout rank (included in all Scouting Ranks) stand for Truth and Knowledge. For a cub pack to disallow this child to continue goes agains all scout idea and practice. I would welcome him into my Scouting Troop, Venturing Crew or Sea Scouts. He would make a great Eagle Scout.

    See it as a Right or privilege, but owning a gun is something you must pay for. Want to compare it to healthcare..ok. Make everyone who wants it, pay for it. That's what Republicans are trying to do. You have a right to healthcare. No one is denying you the right to purchase it. You have a right to own a gun. No one is denying you the right to purchase one, if you meet the requirements. I don't see what this kid doesn't understand about that. Both can be purchased. If you can't afford a gun, someone with a good income isn't required to buy you one...or when comparing to healthcare, if you can't purchase a gun, no one is required to give up theirs so you can have it. Republicans are tired of giving up their healthcare to pay for others to have it.

  • @WilliamHunterII
    @WilliamHunterII 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, Lori Mayfield, he shouldn't be booted for asking a "tough" question. The only thing I disagree with you about is your calling it a "tough" question. It was a simple question based on simple logic. It was an obvious question to ask. My son was booted from his public high school for reporting what he knew about the releasing of a stink . . . mustn't use the "B" word . . . device. What we seem to be teaching our children these days is what I call the Sgt. Schultz syndrome. For those of you too young to know, John Banner played the role of Sgt. Schultz, a fat German concentration camp guard, on a long running TV comedy series called "Hogan's Heros." Sgt. Schultz's catch phrase in that series was, "I know nothing!" Of course, in order to advance the perverted Republican agenda our children must be kept ignorant and complacent. I was appointed Den Leader once in my sons Den. If it had been my Den I would have told Ames, "Good job!" He deserves a badge and an advancement in rank for his actions. He also deserves a better Den.

    though he does need to be handed constitution and a bill of rights. I would like to respond to the two questions he asked. the first one why should the man who beats his spouse be slowed to posses a fire arm? the answer is that in a domestic dispute case the woman being beaten has to go to the police and first report the crime. make no mistake this is a crime. she then has to attempt to get a restraining order against the man. the police now can remove his fire arms or even arrest the man. he has the ability to appeal his case providing that he does not break the law and enter knowingly into the restricted distance. the reason is simple the government cannot seize property nor denie a citizen his or her rights without due process. meaning simply the woman on his question must take action and activley pursue the option of escaping her situation. this is the law for better or worse. these cases often times never reach that level because the abused never reports it or forgives him and doesn't press charges. so what can the police do. as for the second question health care is a service that requires another party to pay for that care so if this is in fact the government should also provide a platform to speak from or even provide fire arms to every citizen at the tax payers expense. its neither in the bill of rights nor is it a acerted right. another part of this is that how can my rights force a doctor to treat the sick and injured. you at that point are forcing doctors to treat you or me without looking at the cost to doctors, school. it isn't free a doctor isn't trained for free so how can we mandate the price of their lives. the other element of this argument is that the right to bear arms against forces both forien and domestic is a right not given by government nor can the government end that right with our due prosses. I do think that Ben Shapiro says it better than I an recommend you look up the guy. hope this answers the quarry. have a good day ps its bull that he got kicked out.

      It's rarely well advised to judge others by your own values. You're making a LOT of assumptions about him and his family, and he is obviously a high achieving and articulate young man. By comparison, I was walking experienced electronics engineers twenty years my senior with degrees through microprocessor circuit board diagrams when I was the same age. I wasn't the brightest kid in my year either. Kids are smart and more tuned into the world than ever. I had political opinions of my own too at that age, as did my friends. We're not all morons, then or now, and having them doesn't steal your innocence, but it does prevent people who want to abuse it from taking advantage of you. By the cub scout leader stifling debate in a free country in this way, she didn't do herself, the image of the cubs, or the senator who seemed willing to engage with the child any favours.

Just because you want something to be true, it doesn't make it valid. Calling those whom you disagree with illiterate doesn't prove your point either. The question isn't whether that young boy is smart, the issue is whether he was coached. In your fantasy, all "smart" people think alike and come to the same conclusions, correct? That isn't being "smart," it's being brainwashed with group-think. It's probably too late for you to get educated out of your condescending yet blinkered mindset. But at least grasp the point that the first sign of being brilliant is not claiming you are smart, or calling yourself "liberal."
