The biggest problem with the regular Wedge is that it doesn't have the "recurve" clip. You can't hook it to the brim of your ballcap for hands-free use. I had to buy another flashlight for that. It's a feature most reviewers don't mention but it definitely comes in handy.
Yeah the only reason why I haven’t bought the original wedge is because I use my microstream most days at work for boring jaws and various other shop tasks and having the recurve clip is very underrated.
I'd say the original wedge is a touch too heavy for a hat brim clip. Especially with the weight way out past the brim. I still use my micro stream for that, but the wedge is my go-to quick inspection light.
@@gunner9174 I have the wedge and i like it, but I haven't actually tried it on my cap, for obvious reasons. Mine doesn't feel that heavy, but I guess it could be. I have the Olight Arkfeld for the recurve clip, but it's not as good of a light.
Had the full size for about a year. Was a gift. Man i loved that thing. I was never an edc picket light carrier but man the full size wedge changed me. I like the XT switch and switch lock out. The problem i had was dirt and grit getting into the charging port i finally covered it with duck tape.
Love the wedge. I’ve have two and they have been the most durable flashlight I’ve ever carried. Use them for work and my EDC. Will definitely be buying the XT.
Bought the wedge because of your review and I’m very satisfied. Bought a whole bunch of micros for Christmas this year for the same reason. Thanks for your reviews!
I think the best bang for buck Streamlight EDC light is the Macrostream, 500 lumens in a traditional round light format, can clip onto a hat and has enough candela for most everyday use. And it's cheaper than the Wedge XT.
for a general duty light i actually prefer the switch on the original. the purpose was to not let the high output mode stay on un intentionally to preserve power for run time.
I wish the owners manual had been written by you. Mines already damaged from coming on in my pocket, I can mail it in and streamlight will repair for it for free, gee, thanks. You mean I can be without my brand new flashlight because the streamlight owners manual is not written well! Now I know how to turn it off.
My only gripe with the wedge is that the charging port is always exposed. An edc item with a charging port should keep that thing covered to prevent dust and dirt getting in there.
For the full size, you can get little 3D printed covers that snap into the USB C port and loop around the clip. I've got one and it doesn't reduce the deep carry significantly. I've washed mine before too but I'm pretty sure it's IP67 water resistant without the cover anyway.
Have had a Wedge since not long after they came out...always thought the switch was awkward. Finally picked up a Wedge XT at SMKW and thought I'd love it BUT I find that my fat hand often activates the tailcap button when pushing it down to "clip" in my pocket. Then I have to take it back out to turn off and make sure it's not on high or low modes...and then be extra careful not to repeat the same thing when clipping it back in. Am giving it to my wife as a "desk" flashlight and back using the original Wedge, as awkward as the switch on it is.
For me, for everyday use and for maintenance/boiler room use, the controls on the original are better. I hope they make a shorter version of the original with the same controls.
I received the original Wedge as a gift. "Tactical", it ain't...but neither am I, haha. It is a great general use flashlight, and mine has taken a beating. I lost it for about a month...and then found it out in the yard. Exposed to the elements all that time, and still works just fine. Glad to see they moved the activation switch to the tail! I think I am going to pick one up!
This is what they should’ve done in the beginning is make a big and small one with 2 switch options and a clip that is slim but enough to place on a brim
Pricing for this manufacturer seems similar to Yeti pricing. Not sure if they have the quality of Thrunite. Also, I didn't notice a neutral white LED offering.
I carried an olight warrior mini for a couple years and loved it. Just turned it in on a recall for a warrior mini 2 and I’m liking it so far. Great video as always
@@Mrgunsngear I love the streamlight hlx rifle lights but haven't tried any of their EDC lights yet. I might have to try one of these out. Great review
Interesting going to a flat design like the arkfeld. I find the UV light on the arkfeld pro immensely useful. I don't know if I'd switch over to just a single light now.
@@DinoNucci so many things. If you're a hunter, you can use for tracking, blood drops. More everyday stuff, just using it around the house, you can see so much dirt you missed when cleaning. It's a natural germ killer, just like those UV pens to sterilize water, you can do the same with the UV from the arkfeld pro. Kills COVID in studies with the same UV wavelength. You'd be surprised all the stuff you can see. You can check to see if money is counterfeit with it. Heck, they even use the same wavelength to whiten your teeth. The low moon mode will last 11 days straight. Not even to mention, the laser is very useful as well. Best EDC flashlight to come out this year imo.
I have the original and I carry it all the time. I don’t see it as a tactical light but it can handle that job if needed. I don’t think the controls prohibit it from being used tactically. I have several Surefire lights with end cap activation but if you don’t want to carry it for beam down thumb activation you’re kind of stuck. It’s really a matter of preference on how you want to handle the light. I like the large thumb activation on the Surefire lights and the thumb activation on the Streamlight Wedge XT seems a bit small but I haven’t held one so I could be wrong. Ultimately I don’t see a good reason to “upgrade” to this model and will stick with the lights I have. This looks like a good product and I’m sure it would give years of excellent service.
This could be a great light. However, the raised switch on the back is too easy to inadvertently activate when in your pocket. I clipped the light in my front pocket of my jeans at the rear of the pocket. I sat on a couch and felt heat coming from the light on my leg. My clothing pressed on the raised on/off button and turned on the light, which I only realized after feeling the heat. The original larger Wedge with the sliding switch has never activated in my pocket, and I've carried one every day for several months, so I will switch back to that one. Streamlight should re-design the switch with a protective spacer, or make it a flush sealed rubber switch that is less affected by clothing. As it is now, it will always activate when clothing presses on it.
But the macro stream can clip on to my hat. Livestock still need attention when it gets dark by 5. I need hands doing things other than holding lights.

I'm not a fan of this light or the Stiletto from Surefire, my personal choice. I think the streamlight 90 (not the 90x or the Poly 90) is the superior edc light. At about the size of my thumb, it is small light and being an L shape- extremely versatile. Since it can use CR123 or AA it's always got a fuel source somewhere and the clip is great for mounting on a belt, or angled down on the brim of a hat. It's less "threatening" than a G2X for example, but rather easy to use even in tactical circumstances. I highly recommend, especially at its price point.
I fucking love the stilleto pro. Best light of all ive carried over the years. The regular stilleto is ok but turns itself on constantly with its exposed side buttons. I dont like round flashlights wih a clip for edc in my leg pocket, I find them uncomfortable when laying/crawling under things or leaning on things.
And how do you know if its on by accident? My old stilleto with its controls would constantly turn itself on and i would see it. The new pro doesnt turn on but i still want to see the led
