Do you own a set of the Klipsch Heritage Promedia 2.1 speakers? Do you have a hiss? Also, do you love them, like them or hate them? Curious what everyone thinks about them as I thoroughly enjoy them, even though I had to fix the hiss issue.
Very Informative! I'm thinking of purchasing the same system but have a quick question. Would I be able to use the Fosi Audio BT30D Pro to seperately control the sub instead of purchasing a seperate passive volume knob?
@@evertguliker7586 Thanks! Glad you liked it! In terms of connectivity, it looks like you can. However, that amp says it's only 100 watts and the BT20A Pro is 300. I fear the amp you pointed out might be underpowering the shelf speakers. You can always give it a try!
Sometimes... and not always.... the hiss in speakers can be a reflection of the ground in the wall circuit (and/or other plugs that may be plugged into same strip/outlet) My house does not have grounding in all rooms. so in some rooms, my speakers are more susceptible to noise than in other rooms.
@@sinatrajr totally! I mentioned in the video that I too thought it was ground related. Tried different outlets, different power strips. Separating the power. Even a ground loop isolator. It wasn’t a ground issue.
@@kevindigit what’s the MC11? Are those speakers? Regardless, follow the step by step in my video. I used a USB to 3.5mm adapter and used a 3.5mm male to RCA cable to connect to the my Klipsch system.
Hello, I'm Korean so I'm not good at English. Understand me. I recently purchased Klipsch Promedia Heritage 2.1 speakers. I am very satisfied with the speakers, but the hiss noise was bothering me. So I was searching on Google and came across this video. I'm currently using the fiio brand's K7 DAC, but I don't know how to connect the power amplifier just by watching the video. A typical connection is PC -> USB connection -> K7 DAC -> Power amplifier -> Speaker. Should the woofer be driven as a woofer, and should the satellite speakers be connected to a separate power amplifier?
I would like to add one question. The satellite speaker connection wire is a wire without a connector. How do I connect this wire to the amplifier? Did you use a separate connector on the wire?
Hey there! You’re correct, the new amplifier you’re buying needs to be getting the signal from your computer as well as directly powering your satellite speakers. That’s why the Fosi works so well - it takes the signal from my computer and has two speaker connections for the satellite speakers. Then, it has a 3.5mm line out that I connect to the Klipsch sub (well, first I connect it to the volume knob I added and then connect THAT to the sub). The DAC you got won’t work because it doesn’t have a place to connect speaker wire. I hope that makes sense! If not, please feel free to continue asking questions.
@@BuenoReviews Thanks to you, I can see a solution to some extent. Thank you. It may be a little complicated, but I plan to first 1. connect the PC and DAC, and 2. connect the DAC and power amplifier in 2RCA TO 2RCA. 3. Then, connect each Klipsch speaker to the speaker out terminal of the power amplifier, and 4. Connect the PRE OUT terminal to the subwoofer with 2RCA TO 3.5mm. In this way, since the DAC I have has a PRE function, I think I can use only the DAC function, use the satellite speaker as a passive speaker, and use the woofer as an active woofer.
Did the speakers still hiss when streaming via Bluetooth? Bluetooth should provide a cleaner signal since it's digital, unlike the 3.5mm connection, which is analog and heavily dependent on the quality of the source's DAC. Curious to know if the issue persisted with Bluetooth!
@@adrianchastang4042 I actually did not test the Bluetooth to see if the hiss went away. That said the fact that the external amp got rid of it leads me to believe it was an internal issue with the speaker system itself.
It looks like the walnut finish isn’t in stock anywhere. The black ones are on their Amazon store which I think also look awesome. Hopefully they restock the walnut soon. I hope they’re not discontinued…
i hate hissing in speakers, i have ground noise isolator that i bought from amazon that does not change the sound quality but eliminates annoying buzz.. i have microlab fc530 that i bought in 2013 and they are still kicking! they dont have any hiss or so, i dont know if i should upgrade or no, they have a nice bass midrange, and highs unlike some crappy corsair.. so i am in dilemma, edifier are also very good.
@@11Modern11 I hear you! I actually tried the Edifiers when I was looking at these. They looked nice and sounded fine, but the lack of a sub bummed me out and I didn’t want to go down the route of piecing a system together. Overall, I love the sound of my setup. That said, the hiss definitely sucked 🤣
I just purchased these and they sound great *however* i notice an audible crackling/popping sound every minute or so. I'm wondering if the fosi amp might help resolve this issue?
@@Amaxj is this sound happening when you’re playing audio through the speakers? Ie actively listening to something? Or, do you notice this pop when no audio is being played and the pop happens when you start playing audio? If it’s the latter, you need to update the firmware and turn off “auto shut off”. There’s a link in the description to a video showing how to do that.
@@BuenoReviews It's happening while audio is playing and I also do hear the hiss you described; I did the firmware update which did solve the auto shutoff issue. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@Bangtang_Aje that item I posted is a 3.5mm switcher. So you can route that in between the connection of your computer to speakers. Then get another 3.5mm to RCA cable that goes from that to your Klipsch sub and the other output can be your headphones.
Oh nice! So glad you found this helpful. The hiss is a real bummer! You’ll love this setup. Just make sure the volume and bass level are both almost all the way up on your sub (either use the knobs on the back or your remote).
Question. I have all the same wires/equipment except the volume knob and banana clips. How do i go about the wiring? I tried following exactly how you have yours set up but the volume knob part gets me. Currently I’m taking 3.5mm (mac) to 2 RCA (Fosi input) and that’s as far as i’ve gotten successfully. I’ve tried taking the speaker wires from the sub into the output of the Fosi and left the speaker wires in my satellite speakers alone. I’ve tried taking a Y split 3 RCA cable from the Pre-Out of the fosi to the input on subwoofer but it doesn’t seem to like that. how would you wire things from scratch?
You’re half way there! You need another 3.5mm to rca cable. There is a line out 3.5mm on the Fosi, so you take that to the RCA inputs on the back of the Klipsch sub and you’re good to go! Lastly, just connect speaker wire from the terminals on the back of the Fosi to your speakers. You don’t need banana clips either! Those terminals unscrew as well.
@@BuenoReviews Thank you man. So for clarification… 3.5mm (computer) to 2 RCA (line in on Fosi) 3.5mm (pre-out Fosi) to 2 RCA (output on sub) and for the speaker wire…. do i take the wire from the satellite speakers or subwoofer? I really appreciate the quick response i’ve come to this video like 20+ times and really appreciate the detail you put into it! Keep it up!!!
@@dylanwalker9889 you’re close! First, the RCA ports on the sub are actually inputs which is important for the way you’re thinking about everything. So yes, you’re taking the 3.5mm output signal from the Fosi, into the input of the Sub. That’s the only cable/wire that will be going to your sub. Your speakers will be connected to and powered solely by the Fosi amp. They will not be connected to your sub anymore. And thanks for the compliment!

Thanks so much for this great video, Casey. Have a pair on there way and awesome to have an excuse to also buy some additional gear in the form of the Fosi (easily available on Amazon here in Australia so have one on the way, too). On having a seperate control for the sub volume, does the loudness of the sub not go up and down using the volume control on the Fosi? Or is the separate volume control for the sub's level ie. whatever dB you want to set it at, as you would set with a home theatre receiver whern you calibrate it? Hopefully that's not a confusing question ...
@@machinecat1969 hey, thanks for the compliment! I think I understand your question - the sub volume will follow the Fosi volume. As you said, it’s the level of the sub. Also, you dont necessarily need the Fosi! I only got it to fix the hiss. It does sound better, but I’d say it’s a marginal gain and not worth the money just for that. Let me know how it goes!
@@BuenoReviews Thank you! Yeah, figured i would get in there and get the Fosi in case there is a hiss issue (I will be using them near field) plus i like the idea of having an external amp for volume control. I'm looking forward to my speakers arriving even more so after watching it.
Hey man, trying to partially replicate your setup here. I have laptop thru thunderbolt to a monitor (LG 40WP95C-W specifically) And then 3.5 out from monitor to two RCA Fosi and then 3.5 pre-out from Fosi to 2 RCA subwoofer and then I wired up the satellites with just raw wire. With this though nothing is going to the sub, satellites play fine but there is no volume to the sub. Any assistance?
Yeah, I’ve tried everything seemingly. Even turned up the subwoofer gain and volume to max and still nothing coming out of the subwoofers. When I flick the Fosi switch on and off I can hear a little pop so I don’t think it’s broken. Any special configuration or anything to get the pre-out front Fosi to RCA sub to transmit?
@@peytoncchen hmmmm… did you update the firmware on your Klipsch system and turn off auto on/off? There’s a link to the firmware and to an installation video if you need. The fact that you’re hearing that pop is a good sign.
@@peytoncchen also, are you sure you’re on the right input for your sub? With media playing and sound coming from your shelf speakers, cycle through the different inputs using your Klipsch remote for your sub.
So I tested with just the sub only connected to the Fosi and the pop sounds actually coming from the satellites not the sub, the sub has nothing when flicking the Fosi on and off. Starting to think I have a broken Fosi.
So is there a different app or way of going about being able to adjust volume on keyboard on a windows desktop?...I 100% have to be able to use my rocker on my corsair keyboard for volume... @@DirtNassty you know, I’m not sure if you’ll encounter the same issue on Windows. That said, I’m sure there’s an app out there. Unfortunately, I’m not too familiar with Windows apps these days.
Hey, I stumbled on this video and went ahead and bought the same amp, and did a similar setup as you, minus the sub control knob. I am happy to report it reduced the hiss by at least 75%, and completely eliminates that annoying "sleep" feature where you could hear a change in hiss level (which was the most annoying part). I actually love the little amp too, especially since I got my heritage 2.1 set for $150 on sale. Thanks again!
I just got everything set up. I might have ordered the wrong banana plugs as mine came with the shark tooth which requires fraying the wires over it, seems like Klipsch has glued the tips of the speaker wires together so it's impossible to unfray them. I just stuck the wires through the little holes on the end of the fosi (after you unscrew them) and tighten them. The hiss is FINALLY gone. Thank you! Everything works great except the bass doesn't sound as punchy as I want it to. Even at the max setting on fosi for the bass and treble, it doesn't go as far as what the Klipsch subwoofer was able to, which is disappointing. Any workaround this or am I stuck with the bass provided by fosi?
@@gyozamji I’m so happy to hear this, dude!! Glad it worked out for you. And yah, I set the sub one or two notches away from max volume and max sub. Then I can use my volume knob to dial back.
Just saw this comment - I replied in your other comment. Just in case someone else sees this question, the speaker wire from the factory are tinned (soldered together). You just need to cut that off and remove more insulation to get to the raw wire.
Are you asking if I’d recommend my Klipsch setup over the Kanto? If so, Honestly, I’m not sure as I’ve never listened to the Kanto. They seem to have good reviews on Amazon. Hey there! I’m not familiar with the amp you have, but as long as the wattage output and connections are similar to the amp I have, you should be fine! Also, you might not need an amp at all! Some people don’t have the issue with hiss like I did. If the hiss isn’t there, you’re good to go out of the box! Also, if there is a hiss, it might not even bother you.
I just got mine and have none of the issues mentioned here. You will be blown away by the much better build quality overall. Speaker durability has really improved in particular.
@@DungeonOfShame totally! But also, not every system has the hiss and if you’re using it for a bookshelf set up and not near field like for a computer than you probably won’t even even be a problem at all. So I would buy the speakers and hold off on getting any external app just to see if they’re OK as is.
His is normally caused by bad gain-staging. In this case the output from the PC is too low and the last stage (the Klipsch system) has to have its gain set really high to compensate. If that's the case you increase the output from the computer and drop the gain on the Klipsch.
Yup! That’s what I thought at first too. I’ve been messing with audio forever - from installing several car stereo systems to recording my band back in the day. What’s wild is, the hiss was there without any input hooked up and was consistent at any volume/gain that the Klipsch was set to. It didn’t change with the volume unless I cranked the volume all the way up on the Klipsch, then the hiss would increase slightly. It just has a really loud noise floor.
@@BuenoReviews That's really unfortunate, especially for such an expensive speaker system. It sounds like it's noise coming in from the later power stage.

Either way these sound amazing especially for the sale price I got them for 180.
I just got a set of these, and they are great. I bought the Promedia 2.1 three years ago on sale for $89 and have been super impressed with them. I decided to upgrade, and these looked good and were highly marked. So I got them in and hooked them up and wasn't disappointed. Then I had an idea: Run them both. So I got a stereo splitter and did just that. Oh my the massive sound after messing with placement. The Heritage has a little of a mid dip that the promedia covers nicely. I was very happy with just the Heritage. but adding the promedia just pushed it over the top.
This is a really well made video. I’m surprised you’re not using an external dac rather than the Mac’s dac. You’ll get some really killer sound. I use the pre-out on my headphone amp out to the aux on these speakers, so everything in my chain of audio can be played to it. Tv, multiple dacs, my streamer and cd transport, it’s great! And I did confirm with Klipsch before I ordered these speakers, it is a true analog input. I am considering getting a dedicated amp for the two satellite speakers just to improve things even more. Hello! Just bought the same Fosi and Volume Knog for sub. Connected all the same way as you did, but subwoofer is very silent. I can hear the bass coming from the sub only when volume is maxed out and the speakers are enormously loud. What do you think about this?
Just solved the problem. I'm such an idiot))) I forgot that there are the bass knobs at the back panel of subwoofer. Maxed out them and it solved my problem =)
@@dylanwalker9889 what Dylan said. The first thing I’m assuming is your volume and/or sub level is low on the Klipsch. Remember, you’re now using two amps in your setup - one for your satellite speakers (Fosi) and the internal amp for your sub. Use your Klipsch remote or the physical knobs behind the sub to adjust sub volume. I recommend setting both the volume and sub level to one notch below the max so your volume knob has a good amount of head room to play with.

I really want the Klipsch Heritage set.
Hey there! Yes you can! That said, I prefer the Fosi to have a flat signal, but there are bass and treble knobs you can adjust. IMO, the bass adjustment from the Fosi adds too much into the satellites for my taste so it wasn’t a viable option to control the volume of the sub. I got the passive volume knob because I didn’t wanna deal with the remote. I’m much happier adjusting the EQ with the app I show in this video. Granted, everything is flat on my setup and I love it. All that being said, I don’t adjust the bass via the volume knob all that much, but I’m happy I have it when I want to.

Hi @caseybueno Thanks for making the video, very informative and helpful. I have these speakers myself and have exactly the same issue with them. I decided to take a chance and buy the Fosi Audio device you bought and unfortunately there is still a hiss and in fact, there is a slight ticking noise now. This noise persists even when nothing is being played out of the speakers. I've bought different speaker wire (16 gauge pure copper) and a replacement RCA to aux cable. There wasn't a ticking noise before using the Fosi amp but there was a hiss. I've tried it on a laptop as well and still the same outcome, so that makes me think it could be the Fosi amp causing the interference (maybe?) Unfortunately this is the first pair of speakers I've ever bought so this is all fairly new to me. If you could offer any advice on how to reduce the hiss and/or the ticking noise that would be really helpful. Happy to try anything honestly, just want to avoid shipping back the speakers as they're very large :) Thank you!
Ah, bummer! Sorry to hear this. Just to make sure, you're shelf speakers are NOT connected to the sub, correct? They should be powered by the Fosi amp. Hello bro, I'm thinking in buying the Fosi since I'm having the same issue. I was wondering if I do need the new speaker cable?Or could I use the same stock speaker cable?
Hmmm... Personally, I wouldn't go with a 2.1 for home cinema. I'd check out the Klipsch or Sennheiser soundbars. For a lower price bracket, check out Yamaha. Those three companies are really good at tuning a setup for TV/Film. And if you get their upper level priced products, they actually do an incredible job at achieving actual surround sound from a sound bar. As much as I love this system, personally, I wouldn't be happy watching movies on it. All that said, if you don't care about surround sound at all, then sure! They;'d work great. I think they'd be ideal for a music setup, vinyl or otherwise.

Hi Casey, awesome video. You really seem to enjoy what you're doing; it comes through in your energy and enthusiasm. I'm considering buying these, but most of the reviews I've seen focus on their use as a desktop setup for PC, near-field listening. I'd like to use them as a main system for BT streaming music in a living room that's about 16x22 ft. Do you think this system has enough oomph for a room like that when I'm home alone and want to really crank it? Now I've got a cheap Panasonic 2.1 soundbar with about 240 watts and 6in ported sub, and that can get as loud as I ever need in the room, but of course the sound isn't anything great at higher volumes. I also like listening to a lot of classical piano, and the soundbar pretty much sucks for that. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers
@@johnspence6675 thank you so much for the compliment! I really appreciate it! in my opinion, absolutely! In fact, I’d say they’re likely designed to be used more in line with the setup you’re after rather than near-field. Plenty loud and plenty of bass to fill up a large living room.
Awesome review, I was considering getting these for my desk setup since I used the regular promedias back in the day, what kept me from getting them was a) I wanted a USB speaker out of the box (without having to buy a separate DAC) in order to reduce desk cables and clutter just plugging the USB to the back of my monitor where it is out of sight, also bypass the on-board DAC of my laptop and b) I wanted a sealed subwoofer which is supposed to be better for music (tighter bass without any rumble) so I ended up going with the Audioengine A2+ wireless and the matching S6 sealed sub instead, this combo costed me a bit more than the Heritages would've but they match better with my minimal desk setup aesthetics and I get no hiss and can control the volume with my keyboard out of the box. The Klipsch look beautiful and classy though. I will check the EQ app for Mac that you mentioned.

Because I sent mine back a week ago because of this hiss and the repeated auto on/off I didn't know there was an update to do... I really liked the quality of these speakers, but once you count everything in my home (in Belgium) you get to +/- 500€ if you count the speakers + the amp + cables 🥲 I'm starting to wonder if it's not a good idea to switch to something more substantial, because if I take the Klipsch R-50M for 300€ and an amp I fall more or less into the same or even cheaper prices, and I wonder if there is a significant performance gap or not 🤔 Well, it's safe to get a range without subs, and with speakers that are much bigger on the desk, but wouldn't it be worth it? I wonder what to do in between Sorry for my English, I use google trad to be as fair as possible, I hope it's understandable! Thanks & have a good day ! ☺
Hello! Thank you so much for the comment! And the translation is actually very good. No need to apologize! As far as the volume with an external amp, I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking, but you can definitely change the volume with the amp. However, what I do is leave the amp at the same level and adjust volume with the Mac using the Mac EQ software I show in the video. As far as cost, I completely understand and someone else pointed out the overall cost. It’s a hard decision. Personally, I wouldn’t want speakers any bigger on my desk, but there’s plenty of other people who have much bigger monitors/speakers and are completely happy. The R-50ms are very nice, and the RMS is 75watts so the Fosi should be able to power those with the smaller power supply it comes with which gives around 70watts RMS. There’s an upgraded power supply at 48-volts that will put the Fosi closer to 150 watts RMS but I don’t think you’d necessarily need to do that. There’s also other compact amps out there, I just don’t know much about that as I haven’t done any research. If I went that route, I’d still be afraid that I’d miss a subwoofer. Let me know what you end up doing and I hope I answered your question!
Thanks for the answer ! 😇 I understand and agree about the size of the speakers on the desk... I also saw that the R-50M were not the best choice for a desktop setting, they are better once placed at 2m and more, and without the subwoofer it's true that it loses dynamics and impact, so I don't think I'll go for that 😅 So I don't know if I'm going for the klipsch promedia 2.1 thx or the heritage, considering that i don't need an amp for the 2.1thx I'm a big fan of the sound of the heritage, but apart from the look, purely audio-wise, is the difference worth it? I know you talk about it in the video but without considering the look I would like to have your opinion 😁
@@Ajrs24 so a couple of things. A) not everyone has the hiss issue with the Heritage from what I’ve researched. You could always buy one from a retailer that has a good return policy and see if you’re lucky. B) The THX sounds REALLY good. What you won’t get is as wide of a sound stage, and there’s a TINY bit less clarity and instrument separation. But overall it’s an amazing value. When I first listened to them before I got the Heritage, I thought “wow, these are only $120??” This biggest difference I noticed is in the sub. While the THX sub is adequate, it’s not nearly as clean as the sub on the heritage. It feels like the crossover is not tuned very well. If you crank up the sub, it definitely sounds muddy and not nearly as precise. It’s still good! It’s just, when comparing it to the Heritage, I’d say it’s around 70-75% of what the heritage sub is. Overall, I’d say the THX is about that as well in terms of overall quality vs the Heritage - 70-75% Finally, consider your living situation. If you’re in an apartment or share a wall with someone else, you’ll likely not be able to crank the sub anyway, so besides the look, the THX might be perfect! All that being said, I do think bang for buck, the THX system is a better system in regards to value. But I’d still recommend the Heritage for those who love the look and are down to tweak their setup if need be. Hope that helps!
@@BuenoReviews Hello ! 😇 I decided to take back the heritage one, it dropped to 264€ on amazon, so I jumped on the deal ! I still have the HISS, but I'm going to wait for an offer on the fosi and upgrade soon, or an SMSL I saw that there was a model that directly manages the volume of the sub without having to take a separate controller 😊 In any case, thank you for all the info, and also for your speed in responding to the comments, it's rare to have someone who really takes care of the community, thank you for that, I'll come and do a little report of the final when I would have upgraded the amp Thank you and have a good day 😁
@@Ajrs24 of course! It was my pleasure! That’s interesting about the SMSL amp! Which model are you looking at? I see the AO200MKII which has what you describe, but it seems a little big and is also around $200 US. Either way, I hope your setup makes you happy! Please let me know how it goes.
I loved the original promedia speakers and got excited about these, but this sounds like a big pain in the ass....his setup is over 400$...Are they really that much better than a good set of powered speakers for the same price? ...With much less headache?
I totally understand where you’re coming from. That’s why I mentioned the THX Promedia system and steered people in that direction who didn’t care as much about the aesthetic plus the 20% ish jump on sound quality. My hope is they fix the hiss issue. If that’s the case, it would be a no brainer. I made this video because I could barely find any reviews when I was researching them before I bought mine and also wanted to let people know that I had the hiss issue and it sucked BUT, this definitely fixed it. In the end, it was worth it for me. But for everyone? I can’t say for certain. Either way, thanks for checking out my channel!

Hey friend! I'm trying the last game. I try not to remove the woofer panel because it is dangerous. Instead, I am taking on the challenge of using a D.I box (direct box) to change the amplifier signal (active signal) coming from the subwoofer into a passive signal. It gets a little complicated. 1. PC->DAC (pre-amplifier) 2. DAC (pre-amplifier) 2RCA TO 2RCA subwoofer. 3. Subwoofer speaker out -> Connect separately manufactured cable -> D.I BOX 4. D.I BOX (in this case, stereo D.I box) -> 2XLR TO 2RCA -> Power amplifier (fosi) 5. Power amplifier (fosi) -> 2-channel speaker By nature, power amplifiers cannot accept [active signals] as [input]. The reason is, as you well know, [active signal] is a signal that has already been amplified to a high volt value. However, using a D.I box cancels out the high voltage. (More accurately, it is converted.) In other words, it cancels out the voltage and leaves only a small alternating current signal. As a result, it is done as a ‘passive signal’. Therefore, since the [active] signal coming from the subwoofer can be changed to a [passive] signal, it is possible to use the [crossover] with the [subwoofer] as the main signal. Of course, this has a serious drawback. 1. There must be a preamplifier (most stationary DACs these days are preamplifiers). 2. There must be a direct box (it must be a stereo direct box or 2-channel direct box, and the device must support pad -40db). 3. Various types of cables are needed. (Subwoofer->Direct box connection cable, Direct box->Power amplifier connection cable) I love these speakers, so I'm setting them up to get the best performance possible. The results of this challenge will probably come out in 2-3 days. Friends! Please support us so that we can achieve good results.
For some reason the Klipsch speakers do not sound great on Apple products (very dull sound). Plug them into my PC and it is like having a concert in my living room.
Really? That’s odd… I’m assuming you’re using the same 3.5mm to rca cable? I actually use a sub to 3.5mm adapter. Maybe you could try that with your Mac?
your whole problem with the hiss was connecting the speaker to the monitor, audio trough hdmi or dp is always dirty in some degree, you plug that 3.5mm to the laptop and problem fixed
This wasn't true in my case. I believe I stated this in the video, but I tried hooking it up to multiple sources besides my computer setup and the hiss was the same. Plus, in theory, if it was because of my connection, wouldn't the hiss then persist with the aftermarket amp?
@@BuenoReviews didn't realize you said it in the video my b, I think I have the same hiss but just if the speakers are at high volume and there is low volume on the digital side I mean the PC or dac and that is normal in all-in-one solutions, if you lower the volume and still have the hiss there was a problem but if the hiss is less audible with less volume then that's normal is just that the amp you got is just better quality over the pre installed on the sub
@@miguelzl5228 the hiss was the same no matter the volume. Even though I knew it wasn’t a ground loop because of that, I still tried a ground loop isolator and it remained. I hope they fix this issue. It’s a shame to deal with in an otherwise perfect set of speakers.
For that application, I think you’ll absolutely love them without having to get an external amp. Let me know how it goes and thanks for leaving a comment!
Awesome video, great work. I bought same items as you have recommended and it helped fix the hissing noise at low volume. But now I am facing issue with my sub not working. I tried wiring it same method you described with sub volume controller. I also tried without sub volume controller. It doesn't help and sub is not working. Here is my wiring. 1. Desktop PC -> Fosi via 3.5mm to RCA (Amazon Basics Cable) 2. Fosi -> Volume knob via short 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. 3. Volume knob -> Sub via 3.5mm to RCA (Klipsch original cable) 4. Speakers -> Fosi via Speaker wire (Klipsch original cable) For 2 & 3. I also tried not using volume knob and just connected Fosi -> Sub via 3.5mm to RCA (Klipsch original cable) Can you please help how we can fix it.
Hey man! Thanks for the compliment! Are you sure your Klipsh is set to the right input? Maybe you have it on Bluetooth instead of RCA/AUX (I forget what the input is called) I’d use your remote and turn your sub on. Then play something with your PC and shuffle through the inputs on your sub and see if you can get it to work. Sorry you’re having issues!
@@evertguliker7586 I just realized that something else might be at play here… Did you update the firmware? If you have everything hooked up just like I have in this video, there’s a chance your sub is in standby mode. With the updated firmware, you can disable standby mode which automatically shuts off your speakers when there’s no signal.

How did you kill them after a Windows Update if they don't connect or pass audio from USB to USB? That's wayyyy to ridiculous and doesn't even make sense

That's a bunch of b******* laid back on the consumer to fix their s***. I have the thx series and there's a loud buzz and hum out of the subwoofer it's time to put them in the trash so long Klipsch, they do sound good when they're loud so you can't hear the buzz or the hum or the hiss

A typical connection is
PC -> USB connection -> K7 DAC -> Power amplifier -> Speaker.
@@BuenoReviews I understand a little bit. Then do you connect the subwoofer to the PRE OUT terminal of Fosi?
@@cypark1580 exactly right!
The pre-out is what carries the same signal from your computer.

So for clarification…
3.5mm (computer) to 2 RCA (line in on Fosi)
3.5mm (pre-out Fosi) to 2 RCA (output on sub)
and for the speaker wire…. do i take the wire from the satellite speakers or subwoofer?
I really appreciate the quick response i’ve come to this video like 20+ times and really appreciate the detail you put into it! Keep it up!!!
@@dylanwalker9889 you’re close! First, the RCA ports on the sub are actually inputs which is important for the way you’re thinking about everything.

Your speakers will be connected to and powered solely by the Fosi amp. They will not be connected to your sub anymore.

Hey man, trying to partially replicate your setup here.
I have laptop thru thunderbolt to a monitor (LG 40WP95C-W specifically)
And then 3.5 out from monitor to two RCA Fosi
and then 3.5 pre-out from Fosi to 2 RCA subwoofer
and then I wired up the satellites with just raw wire.

@ awww, man. Thanks so much! I really appreciate you saying that and for leaving a comment!

You know, you might be right. Maybe only some of the units have the hiss issue and they might have addressed the issue. If so, no need for the Fosi amp at all!
Either way, I’m so glad I could help you out! Enjoy!!
So if I get the Fosi BT20A do I need to buy and additional cables?
@@cwescrab hey! Yes you will. I breaks down the what you’ll need in the video but basically, the only cable you really need is an RCA to 3.5mm which I have linked in the description. If you want to add the bass knob, you’ll need a 3.5 to 3.5mm cable
@@BuenoReviews I got the speakers today. I hear no hiss. I already ordered the cable since I heard the one that comes with it is horrible, so i'll probably just keep it. It was really cheap. I decided to wait on the amp to see if I heard a hiss first. I guess I got one of the good ones or maybe it's the power outlet and since mine is new it works well.
Great review man. Subbed!
Thank you so much!
Have you tried using your remote to switch between either Bluetooth, USB, or AUX? and have you tried raising your subwoofer and volume button?
Awesome video !!.I know what you mean when you get something in your head and want to get it. I've been looking at this set of speaker to replace my 10 year old Pro Media 2.1 set and they are great. I've been a Klipsch fan for about 40 years. My question is can I control treble, bass and volume with just the Fosi and not use the bass passive knob. Thanks again.
I couldn't stand it any more and ordered the complete system that you recommended. Now I just have to wait for it. Thanks!!, for all your help in helping me make a decision that's been brewing in the back of my head for several days now, Can't wait for it now. Once again a big thanks!!

Hi @caseybueno
Thanks for making the video, very informative and helpful.
I've tried it on a laptop as well and still the same outcome, so that makes me think it could be the Fosi amp causing the interference (maybe?)
Unfortunately this is the first pair of speakers I've ever bought so this is all fairly new to me. If you could offer any advice on how to reduce the hiss and/or the ticking noise that would be really helpful.
Happy to try anything honestly, just want to avoid shipping back the speakers as they're very large :)
Thank you!
Ah, bummer! Sorry to hear this.
Just to make sure, you're shelf speakers are NOT connected to the sub, correct? They should be powered by the Fosi amp.
Also, are you using the RCA to 3.5mm cable that came with the Klipsh, or did you get the one I had listed in the description (or another option of the same level of quality)?
@@BuenoReviews Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I have the speakers powered by the Fosi Amp and I’ve bought a replacement RCA cable which is being used to connect my Pc to the Fosi.
I am still using the old RCA cable but it’s from the subwoofer to the Fosi. Perhaps this is causing the issue?
@@UK_MOTIVATIONAL_GEEZA It really shouldn't be. And if it was, you wouldn't be hearing the issue out of the shelf speakers... Do you have everything plugged into a power strip by chance? If so, I'm wondering if your power strip has a proper ground. You MAY have a ground loop.
@@UK_MOTIVATIONAL_GEEZA first off, I’m sorry you’re having this issue!
Was this ticking and hiss there when you had the Klipsch hooked up like it’s supposed to be without any external amp?
Also, and forgive me if you’ve already this, did you try swapping the RCA to 3.5mm adapter?
Lastly, where is your 3.5mm connector signal coming from? Straight from your laptop? Monitor?

Would you recommend this for an easy home cinema setup?
@@BuenoReviews I'm working with a stereo setup right now and was just wondering if this would be an upgrade or not. I don't really have space for a full surround sound. My current speakers are the Edifier R130DB. I was thinking about either getting the Edifier S2000III, Edifier S360DB or the Klipsch Promedia Heritage. They're all around the same price.

Hello !
First of all thank you for this video, it's very informative, thank you for your work 😇
I have a question, is the overall audio quality always at the same level with an external amp?
Because I sent mine back a week ago because of this hiss and the repeated auto on/off I didn't know there was an update to do...
I really liked the quality of these speakers, but once you count everything in my home (in Belgium) you get to +/- 500€ if you count the speakers + the amp + cables 🥲
I'm starting to wonder if it's not a good idea to switch to something more substantial, because if I take the Klipsch R-50M for 300€ and an amp I fall more or less into the same or even cheaper prices, and I wonder if there is a significant performance gap or not 🤔
Well, it's safe to get a range without subs, and with speakers that are much bigger on the desk, but wouldn't it be worth it?
I wonder what to do in between
Sorry for my English, I use google trad to be as fair as possible, I hope it's understandable!
I understand and agree about the size of the speakers on the desk... I also saw that the R-50M were not the best choice for a desktop setting, they are better once placed at 2m and more, and without the subwoofer it's true that it loses dynamics and impact, so I don't think I'll go for that 😅
So I don't know if I'm going for the klipsch promedia 2.1 thx or the heritage, considering that i don't need an amp for the 2.1thx
I'm a big fan of the sound of the heritage, but apart from the look, purely audio-wise, is the difference worth it? I know you talk about it in the video but without considering the look I would like to have your opinion 😁
@@Ajrs24 so a couple of things.
A) not everyone has the hiss issue with the Heritage from what I’ve researched. You could always buy one from a retailer that has a good return policy and see if you’re lucky.
B) The THX sounds REALLY good. What you won’t get is as wide of a sound stage, and there’s a TINY bit less clarity and instrument separation. But overall it’s an amazing value. When I first listened to them before I got the Heritage, I thought “wow, these are only $120??”
This biggest difference I noticed is in the sub. Overall, I’d say the THX is about that as well in terms of overall quality vs the Heritage - 70-75%
Finally, consider your living situation.

I loved the original promedia speakers and got excited about these, but this sounds like a big pain in the ass....his setup is over 400$...Are they really that much better than a good set of powered speakers for the same price? ...With much less headache?

Hey friend!
I'm trying the last game.
I try not to remove the woofer panel because it is dangerous.
Instead, I am taking on the challenge of using a D.I box (direct box) to change the amplifier signal (active signal) coming from the subwoofer into a passive signal.
It gets a little complicated.
1. PC->DAC (pre-amplifier)
2. DAC (pre-amplifier) 2RCA TO 2RCA subwoofer.
3. Subwoofer speaker out -> Connect separately manufactured cable -> D.I BOX
4. D.I BOX (in this case, stereo D.I box) -> 2XLR TO 2RCA -> Power amplifier (fosi)
5. Power amplifier (fosi) -> 2-channel speaker
By nature, power amplifiers cannot accept [active signals] as [input].
The reason is, as you well know, [active signal] is a signal that has already been amplified to a high volt value.
However, using a D.I box cancels out the high voltage. (More accurately, it is converted.)
In other words, it cancels out the voltage and leaves only a small alternating current signal.
(Subwoofer->Direct box connection cable, Direct box->Power amplifier connection cable)
I love these speakers, so I'm setting them up to get the best performance possible.
The results of this challenge will probably come out in 2-3 days.
Friends! Please support us so that we can achieve good results.
Wow! You’re going all in!
Let me know how it goes!

I really missed some actual footage of the speakers, e.g. in your setup, to make it a bit less talking head
You mean you want more broll of the speakers in the video and less me on camera?
your whole problem with the hiss was connecting the speaker to the monitor, audio trough hdmi or dp is always dirty in some degree, you plug that 3.5mm to the laptop and problem fixed

2. Fosi -> Volume knob via short 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.
3. Volume knob -> Sub via 3.5mm to RCA (Klipsch original cable)
4. Speakers -> Fosi via Speaker wire (Klipsch original cable)

I just wish my rca aux cable would actually work. (I know to set it to aux).
Oh no. Still nothing? Have you tried using that aux cable in a different application to make sure the cable is good?
Why didn't Klipsch use better shielding and cables? Thought they were world class quality?
I hear you. It was a bummer for sure. That said, they really do sound awesome.
I changed all the cables to nice quality cables and plug them into a soundblaster x5 dac, they sound really good
Nice! The DAC can power the speakers as well?
@@BuenoReviews sound blaster x5 is a sound card for pc. You can only plug active speakers, the card is not perfect but the sound seemed loud and clear to me
@@JonaD97 ahhhhhh gotcha. So an entirely different solution.
Rad! Thanks for posting, man! I’m sure someone will find that helpful.
My setup is a Mac laptop so I’m on a different boat.
Yeah man not impressing the wife with the desk I'll get the non heritage version they look like the speakers from early 2000s that's retro enough for me.
@@lSeKToRl hahahaha! Fair play, man. The regular THX version sounds awesome!
@@BuenoReviews I went down the rabbit hole too hard. Now I think I'm just going to get an amp and bookshelf speakers.
@@lSeKToRl hahahaha! Dude, trust me when I say, I know the rabbit hole well.
Amazon basics for the cable. Amazon basics version of anything is the worst version. You got the cheapest possible cable.
That could be, but I’m using the exact same cables and wires in the upgraded setup 🤷♂️
Mine just died after windows update. no bluetooth and cannot turn it off. i was never happy with it, good riddance
How did you kill them after a Windows Update if they don't connect or pass audio from USB to USB? That's wayyyy to ridiculous and doesn't even make sense
really? they should be quiet from the get-go. You've got to be kidding, you have to rework your sound system and buy additional components so Klipsch speakers work well? That's a bunch of b******* laid back on the consumer to fix their s***.
I have the thx series and there's a loud buzz and hum out of the subwoofer it's time to put them in the trash
so long Klipsch, they do sound good when they're loud so you can't hear the buzz or the hum or the hiss
