    Hey thanks for giving us a tour of your shack, you have some pretty cool "classic" rigs, brings back some memories for me. One of my favorite mobile rigs was the Sears Road Talker 40 AM/SSB. I got that one when it was the last year they made them and was a good talking radio, especially on SSB. New subscriber here to your channel, 73 from RI..770 RI said that.

    Hey Mower Junkie! Love your stuff on here! I got into CB as a kid back in the 1970s and was active until the early 2000s. Watching your videos is tempting me to get back in.
    That Sears RoadTalker 40 SSB base is a severely underrated radio. When I was 14, I found one in the box at a Sears Surplus store for $149. Half the regular price. Needless to say, I grabbed it and promised Mom I'd sell some of my other radios so I could pay her back. Great receive and very "punchy" transmit audio. The only problem was that the internal power supply was too small for SSB use. It would clip on modulation peaks while running it in the house, but not in the car. That issue was easily solved by using a 5 amp external supply. Other than that, it was flawless. I ran it for about 3 years before upgrading to a Cobra 142GTL.
    Thanks again for the great videos. Keep 'em coming!

    Very nice collection, I think that you are going to have to build a house addition. Thanks for sharing as always. A few nights ago A few of us caught your TEST Utube live with chat. I must say that we took advantage of the live chat and shared much about our radios, antennas, locations, and call signs. It was nice to talk with other folks and if you were there I am listening for you on 37-38-39 Lssb. So 151 are you going to start doing some live shows?????. Live shows would work for sure. Years ago, they sold a small device (a box with an SO239 connector on one side) that could plug into the house wiring wall outlet, it claimed to turn the entire house into a CB antenna. It also had a tuning knob, .. never tried one but it worked like a long wire ant through a tuner.

    Awesome set up MJ. Let me give you some super honest sound advice regarding your "Yeasu FT" transiever. That Yeasu has some electrolytic capacitor banks inside, and some of those caps are fairly large in size, i strongly suggest you change them out or take it to a qualified radio repair "Henry Radio" in California. Being as old as that receiver is, GUARANTEED, the caps are dried out, my Yeasu 101 one day EXPLODED Yes Kaboom!!! One day when i was operating it, one of the caps in my radio was dry, and couldnt take it anymore, scared the living daylights out of me. After that happened, the radio shut down, when I opened the case, there was a ton of electrolytic paper from the cap, and the aluminum can from the capacitor was destroyed.
    Just some sound advice MJ, id hate to hear that your unit did the same, after some fresh caps, the radio will work like new, also being you have the frequency counter, that radio has a testing feature that allows you to check to see if the transciever is on frequency and isnt drifting, go onkine and pickup a owners/service manual for it, youll be surprised what that Yeasu can do!!!

    • @MowerJunkie
      @MowerJunkie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the advice, But I don't own that radio anymore. Have a great day, 73's

    2 things:
    1) The Sears SSB slant face top shelf. If it runs you will will never talk on SSB with any other radio again. I have the JC Penny version. The boards were made by Hitachi. The Hams back in the day would modify them for 10-12 meter and I have one of them also.
    2) We have an 88 yo man (Handle is Jazzmaster #47) that has a flat faced Sears Roadtalker like the one on the second shelf. I tried to fix it for him but the crystals are mostly gone in it. If I gave you my number would you consider parting with that one?? I’d LOVE to give that one to him and or be able to use that for parts/repair his. Thanks!

      @@nicolalamotta9554 I wish I had the money just to go out and buy one, I like the 80s style of CB build, they were not menu driven and had knobs that did things, okay, they were not all singing and dancing CBs but they worked and most worked well if they had SSB in them.
      The modern CBs are terrible as far as I am concerned, buttons for about 5 functions and if you delay it goes back to where it was. Give me a 80s CB any day.

    Junkie, you might think about getting one of the Washingtons or the t very nice Shack radios. I didn't see any of the wideband radios you have used before. The G90 wasn't there either. As for the FT101, I once had one with the phone patch just like yours, I sold them when I had to admit running a Radio Shack, and renting meant no radio for me. I regret selling the FT101 it was the serial with the last 4 serial 358 with a bunch of 0s before it. It came directly from Japan from an Air Force officer, I traded a Collins set of Trans and reliever for it. bth-cam.com/users/AmpShackvideos

    I use my Icom 7300 on 11 meter ham radio Sound much better on sideband and put out a hundred Watts without a amp if I had all those radios I would sell probably half of them you can only use one radio at a time I have two friends who have Yaesu 101 ham radio and believe it or not they sound better and louder than any normal CB radio on AM if you were smart you would use that Yaesu 101 because the audio is fantastic you just don't know what you're missing sir once you hear the audio of a Yaesu 101 you would trash the rest of those CB radios I have a friend that's all he works on our Yaesu101 one of the best sounding and loudest radios on the a.m. will put your CB radios to shame just put an AM filter in that radio and it will sound better and louder than any CB radio made guaranteed!!!!!
