    It's been suspected that Mabel didn’t trust Stan until he said “Please” and as we and Mabel learned in S1E13, “Boss Mabel” Stan has trouble saying “Please”. That's how she knew he was serious, what this meant to him. Such a great callback.

    Fun Fact: Stan's brother actually makes few cameos before this episode. If you look at Dreamscapers when the flashback of Stan boxing there's a brown haired boy who reads a book in background that is actually really Stan's twin brother, He also makes cameo at the Time Traveler's Pig at snow but creators wanted us believe it was Stan. Also the reason why Stan really get sad when Wax Stan's head cutted off in Headhunters well because it actually reminded him his brother.

      Mabel causes way less problems than ppl think. Like look at the things Bill says she did was selfish and that Dipper had to give up something for her.
      Except in those cases Dipper was literally trying to do things that hurt HER, or other people. Wanted to hang out with Wendy which would mean Mermando couldn’t go home. Wanted to to break up a relationship and let Waddles get eaten/abused by Pacifica. The only thing that wouldn’t be counted is Dipper rescuing Mabel from being kidnapped and forcibly married. And apparently she’s a fault for being a potential victim of kidnapping lol
      Dipper also has summoned the dead and other things. But ppl never give him shit for it lol

    Now that we’re at that point, I want to talk out the most insane thing that Alex did when people actually got too close to figuring out that Stan has a twin brother. When Alex realized that people are figuring out too quick that Stan has a twin, he took it upon himself to make a FAKE leak he himself and other crew members created that shows Old Man Mcgucket being the author of the journals. He did it as a way to get people off track from theorizing and figuring out that Stan has a brother before the planned initial reveal happened as they’re figuring out WAY before it even happened. He even tweeted about it at one point but I don’t know you can find it anymore. This is famously known as the Mcgucket Hoax.

Alex Hirsh said himself that he wanted a serie with a beginning, middle and end; never an eternal summer like Spoge Bob (nothing against it, but he wanted to be epic enough but short). It was small because the creator wanted and never got a S3 because Alex never intended that way. Disney tried to squeeze even more content out but never got what they wanted because of it.

    _THIRTY YEARS AND NOW HE'S BACK_
    _THE MYSTERY IN THE MYSTERY SHACK_
    Fun fact about this pivotal episode!
    Before this episode aired there had been a lot of discussions and theories proposed among the _Gravity Falls_ fanbase about the identity of the author. Some were very far off the mark, but a few correctly deduced that it was Stan's brother. Some of the main points they sighted came from looking deeper at Stan's memories from the season 1 episode "Dreamscaperers" that showed memories that hinted at a past family relative (the swing set with one broken swing next to another working one, the kid with his face obscured by a book in the background of Stan's boxing class memory that had a similar hairstyle). They also looked at the way Stan reacted to the murder of his Wax figure and how he looked oddly contemplative while holding a pair of glasses he found in the unknown Mystery Shack room in "Carpet Diem."
    The fan theory that arose from those observations was that Stan had a sibling (likely a brother) who was the author of the journals. Something horrible had also happened between the two that resulted in them being separated and Stan's work to locate and use all three journals was an attempt to fix something he had broken.
    The problem for Alex Hirsch was that this fan theory was spot on and threatened to ruin the big reveal he had planned for season 2. So, in an effort to throw people off the trail, he enacted what became known as "The McGucket Hoax." Using a different Twitter account, he posted a fake screenshot of a younger McGucket writing in one of the journals, claiming he had acquired it from a leaked episode from season 2. Then, from his main twitter account, he re-tweeted the fake leak sounding outraged that such a breach could happen and that his entire narrative setup for the moment was compromised.
    It actually worked in throwing most people off, thus preserving the big reveal.

      I also thoroughly fell for that ruse.

    This episode best shows one of Mabel's best qualities: her undying loyalty to her family. Even if she's had her moments of selfishness, she loves her family more than anything. She never lost faith in her Grunkle Stan, she KNEW he wasn't some evil person. And she put her full trust in him by not pressing the button.
    Anybody who still hates Mabel, don't forget that she's the reason we got Ford back.

    • @gryphonvert
      @gryphonvert ปีที่แล้ว +27

      And, it was showing how Dipper can be kind of caught up in his own head. And how overthinking can lead to doubts. Mabel absolutely looks equally shocked by the revelations of Stan's fake identities and faked death. But yes, she's also trying so hard to still think well of Stan, despite everything; whereas, Dipper is very quick to become paranoid and distrustful. This isn't a BIG knock on Dipper... but it *is* honestly something that the show wants us to pay attention to. Just as Mabel's emotions and heart impact the story, so does Dipper's paranoia.This won't be the last we see of it.

      @gryphonvert ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@alexslender191 Yes! Although, for a bonus round, I also think it's interesting that you can find similarities between Mabel and Ford, and Dipper and Stan. (it's just that the show plays up the Mabel-Stan vs Dipper-Ford parallels more; but the other connections are there.) I like that, because it's a nice ibg of multi-dimensional writing. It would have been easy for the show to plan it out so that Mabel and Stan are similar, and Dipper and Ford are similar, and that feeds into the way the story develops; and to just sit back and say, welp, that's good enough. But that you can also find similarities in other directions strikes me as all of the characters being rounded in some really good ways.

    Something I really like about this episode that was well built up is how they portray the clash between Dipper’s over thinking vs Mabel’s Impulsiveness. Throughout the show we see Dipper constantly getting stuck inside his own head and as a result often being paranoid or so fixated on his conspiracies that he either gets in his own way and puts himself down or becomes so determined to find answers he hunts them down at the risk of himself or others. And with Mabel we see her just recklessly follow her heart to the point of willing to do crazy things to keep the things and people she cares about and often with a similar disregard towards her own harm or others. And I’m Not What He Seems it comes to a head with Dipper believing Stan is the great evil trying to destroy or rule everything and Mabel wanting to trust her Grunkle based on her love and strong bond with him despite not having any facts to support trusting him. It really does a great job creating drama especially since everyone knows what it’s like to be caught in the battle of wanting to trust someone you care about despite the bits of evidence you have pointing towards the possibility that the person you care about has some form of ill intent

    Remember how shocked Stan seemed the first time he saw Mabel's wax statue of him? It was like he walked into the room and saw his brother. Remember the episode with the body-switching carpet? When they first opened the room Stan pocketed a pair of glasses and was later shown looking at them sadly. They were his brother's glasses. In the episode where they enter Stan's mind his brother shows up in the background of his memories.

    rewatching this series and i just wanted to say, not only was 'grunkle stan has a twin (who's probably the author of the books)' was a pretty well known theory in the fan community (so much so im partially convinced the mcgucket fake screenshot hoax by alex hirsch was done to throw ppl off lol) when this show was airing, BUT this episode aired (3/9/15) so close to the steven universe episode Jailbreak (3/12/15) and no spoilers for that one but it also confirmed a popular fan theory in a BIG way and was a huge deal so both fandoms popped tf off in a big way like WOOOOOOO we were right! we were right!! one of those 'you had to be there' moments lol. ppl drew fanart of garnet high fiving grunkle stan lmaooo

    • @gryphonvert
      @gryphonvert ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just as Stan said in the cold open! (It's funny, because whenever I rewatch this ep and others leading up to it, that stuff is the clunkiest part of it. "Finally, everything changes!" I mean... yeah, okay, that's true, but it doesn't actually sound like what someone would say in the circumstances. But Stan has to say it that way, to preserve the mystery of just what is about to happen and WHY everything is about to change. So I understand why it's written that way, but I always notice it on rewatch because it's a pretty awkward way of talking around the real subject.)

    Also, fun fact about me: I can do impressions(and Grunkle Stan and Soos are two of my best ones), and if you were to ever ask me to do so, I could recite the ending scene from memory as long as someone else could be Dipper and Mabel for me.

  • @abacaxi2893
    @abacaxi2893 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Finally!
    I waited so long to say this, since you plan to watch the chapters again to see clues to the identity of the author I recommend you watch chapter 3 of the first season, Stan's attitude will make more sense and you will see that that chapter was not just comedy.

    • @abacaxi2893
      @abacaxi2893 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Context:
      In this chapter it is shown how Stan is very attached to a statue with his same appearance and how his death affects him, at first it seems silly but considering that he lost his twin brother his attitude makes more sense or at least an interesting background.

    What an amazing episode! It was so fun watching u noticing little hints and inconsistencies throughout the show and theorising abt them, and now it finally payed off. I think it makes so much sense that Dipper didn't trust Stan while Mabel did. Dipper always tries to be rational, while Mabel operates on her (and others') personal feelings and emotions. So of course she'd trust Stan after everything they've been through.

    there were lots of clues mentioned before ,, in Dreamscapers ep when the flashback of Stan boxing there's a brown haired boy who reads a book in background that is actually Stan's twin brother,
    at the Time Traveler's Pig at the snow scene when they went back it wasnt stan that came out of the shed
    Also the reason why Stan got really sad when Wax Stan's head cut off because it actually reminded him his brother.
    And in the carpet diem ep when they entered the hidden room he immediately took the glasses on the table as they were his brothers but i remember you pointed it out then.

    If you look back to the previous episodes there are hints that make sense that Gruncle Stan had a brother.
    When they found the scret room with the carpet, how upset Stan was when his wax statue was "killed" etc
