I saw Commando when I was 6 or 7, can`t remember exactly. My dad had a big VHS collection of then new american movies (it was 1990s Russia, the borders were open and all these great movies flooded the country), so I used to watch Rambo, Rocky, Terminator, Predator and Boodsport on repeat. The dubs were terrible - everyone voiced by 1 guy - but the movies were so great that it didn`t matter. The joy with which you guys talked about the movie brought me right back into those times, thank you!
Fuck it, I don't really trust 2020 filmmakers doing cheesy balls to the wall action movies without doing self-awarene winks to the audiencebevery 5 minutes, like Expendables 2 does. The sensibilities just aren't what they were in the 80's, and not even The Rock has the kind of presence peak Arnold had. There are good action movies now, they're just different, more slick, and that's fine.

I'm watching it again for the first time in literally decades. The gratuitous use of Arnold's body parts and general physique to fill the screen are some of the most brilliant comedy I've ever seen! Looking at it with current eyes vs the young teenager enthralled with all things manly and military is actually better. I can now appreciate things about this movie overall, that I could never have even noticed so many years ago! Pure brilliance!
This is probably one of my favorite videos from the Critical Drinker. It just seem like he and Az are really enjoying themselves here. I wish we could get more content like this instead of the more negative stuff we see these days. It’s the kind of content I wish I could make, just taking about stuff i enjoyed with my friend.

This movie had the absolute best kill lines, and there was at least one for pretty much every dead bad guy. Matrix: "Remember Sully when I promised to kill you last?" Sully: "Yeah, Matrix, you did!" Matrix: "I lied." Sully: "Aaaaaaah..." **gets dropped off of cliff** Cindy: "What'd you do with Sully?" Matrix: "I let him go."
One time some friends of mine and I played a drinking game where we'd take a shot every time Arnie had a one-liner. We got soooo hammered, I believe it was 13 shots in an hour and a half. Worth it!
As a child in the 80s I loved this film and thought it was a bit silly and pushed the bounds of realism As a man in his 40s I now.understand this is the most realistic and truthful scripts in the last 50 years
Wish I'd seen this live. When us (my mates and I) 40 year olds still only talk and text message in Arnie, Stallone and RoboCop lines you know we're fans. The film's of this era are just pure fun!
Gentlemen, it may have been over a year since you've aired this episode. Nonetheless, thank you for the entertainment and company today while traveling on the left lane on the Autobahn.
As a former Marine, I always laugh hard at how grenades blow up buildings with the big ass fireballs and shit in the movies Its definitely not like that in real life
Thank you for your service, Cousin Eddie. I don't think anyone takes the physics in these kinds of movies seriously. At least I never did. I remember seeing this movie in college with friends and us all joking about how ridiculous it was, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
My mom was hardcore Christian Conservative and thought pokemon was demonic yet terminator 2, matrix, predator, aliens and many others slipped through the cracks 😂😂
One of my all time favourite movies. I saw it for the first time while in South Africa as a kid. My Aunt lives out there and my Parents used to visit a bit. I watched it so much I knew every line pretty much off heart. To the point that even now (Many, many years later!). I was correcting you and Az on some of your quotes :D It was an absolute pleasure listening to you both for the full time. Now I'm going back to watch your Terminator video :D Please keep doing these :D
Fantastic livestream of one of my favourite 80's films. It's both hilarious and has awesome action scenes. One of my favourite parts is at the beginning, where he goes to access his armoury and types in its epic lock code: 13. I grew up watching The Prisoner on reruns in the 90's with my mum and dad and it has always stuck with me. That giant white ball is unforgettable!
Best movie of all time. Even if it was a short with just Arnold throwing the lead pipe and his one-liner it would still be the most epic action movie of all time.
Not as far as I know. In his autobiography he mentions few times, that when he was starting his movie career he had to LOSE quite a few kilo, because he was too big for movies. Those who hired him obviously wanted him mainly for his physique, but even for them his prime form was too much, he would be too big on camera. Peak Arnie was even bigger :)
@@beardedbjorn5520 He wasn't that lean. His BF was around 10.5%. He was under 105 kgs, also. Olympia shape for him was 102 kgs and some 8% BF in 1980. 1975 Olympia he was over 107 kgs around 8 to 9% BF. For a 1.87m tall guy 40 years ago, classic, well proportioned but massive.
Continuity mistake apart from Porsche. Arnold gears up, puts his vest on and then applies tiger stripes. But when he takes his vest off he has stripes all over his body even the bits covered by the vest.
Drinker, babyface, your laughter in this conversation is contagious & I've never seen this Arnie classic slipped through the cracks of my Arnie childhood, working on it!
I remember in the year 1995 I was 7-8 years old (I don't remember exactly) and I somehow came across a VHS tape on which there were 2 films Commando and Cobra-this tape I rubbed to holes, was almost my favorite And phrases like "LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNETT" and "You're a disease and I'm the cure" have stayed with me forever Hello from Russia
One of the best streams and of one of the best action movies ever! You guys play off each other extremely well. Very entertaining. I laughed the whole time. Love you guys, thanks for the stream!! 🍻🍻🍻
Watched it today after listening to this live last night. Must be 20 odd years since I last watched it. Bloody awful film. The script is awful, the acting is pretty awful, it’s badly made, the fight scenes are terrible. Bloody loved every minute of it.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁Why did I enjoy it so much?Mostly because it’s not trying to be something it’s not, it’s an unapologetic 80s naff action film. It delivers exactly what you want, silly one liners, big explosions and Arnie killing loads of bad guys without once ever actually aiming at anyone properly, I think the main reason I still like it so much is it’s a big middle finger up at any sort of PC culture, it’s even more relevant now after everything that has gone on in the last few years.
I went for a walk with this video playing I was crying with laughter about 3 times in front of strangers mostly about Bennet banter and the shed scene thanks guys :D
One of the first movies I remember seeing, definitely my first Arnold movie. I remember my younger brother watching it when he was only 3 years old haha
How did i miss this 2 years ago? luckily i got to see this in the theatre, my dad had a love hate relationship with Arnie but knew i loved his flicks and would take me to every one that came out. My dad’s side is Austrian so Arnie was a bit embarrassing to them but we all watched his movies. I remember my dad shaking his head laughing during and after seeing Commando. The thing that cracks me up is from the jump Matrix does not give a fuck about what anyone has to say and is only driven to get his daughter back snd kills anyone in his way……….i have to say that as a kid from the 80s Harrison Ford, Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood were my film heroes. Stallone and Schwarzenegger were great and you knew what their flicks were going to be but i can’t say that i was in awe of them. Great flick, cheers.
Commando was the first movie I saw where I had the theater to myself. I went to college in a small midwest town that had a one-screen movie theater. They'd get movies about a month after they hit the big cities. On Tuesdays, they had $1 movie nights. So I went on Tuesday night. It was awesome, altho I felt a bit guilty making the theater staff stick around all night because one guy spent a buck.
What a fun film and it's not just for men, but for women too. I first saw this a kiddie, I think my second 18/R-rated film after Running Man. I love Schwarzenegger as a kid, the silly one liners, awesome fight scenes (if a little over the top), classic 80s violence and nudity, etc. Years later at uni, I was intrigued to learn how many women liked this film. There is an audience out there for women who like beefcake men playing the fantasy of the total kick-ass father. From an evolutionary standpoint I can see why, so I really hope the current trend of men playing sissy characters because there's a woman "strong" in a film, just runs its course and dies away. We had great female characters in the 80's, even in Schwarzenegger films (I'm looking at the two ladies in Total Recall, damn!). Tough, bad-ass and sexy ladies, a great fantasy for men and women. Thanks for covering this, Drinker. I look forward to your next reminiscence.
I will refuse to apologize for loving this movie

Wow 2 years ago I watched this live. So much had changed in my life since then. But I'm here again to enjoy this stream lmao.
One time some friends of mine and I played a drinking game where we'd take a shot every time Arnie had a one-liner. We got soooo hammered, I believe it was 13 shots in an hour and a half. Worth it!
Commando was one of the movie I couldn't stop watching as a kid. What a throwback.
As a child in the 80s I loved this film and thought it was a bit silly and pushed the bounds of realism
As a man in his 40s I now.understand this is the most realistic and truthful scripts in the last 50 years
Commando is the purest expression of the 80s action movie.
Thanks Drinker and Az, I just re-watched this movie today and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was the most fun I have had in a long time. Took me way back. I felt all those same feelings as a kid from the 80s.
Really enjoyed hearing your discussion. There were times when I was laughing so much, there were tears in my eyes.
As soon as I saw Commando I Knew this podcast would be ridiculously awesome! Just like the movie
If you ever feel down, come back to listen to this. It will put a huge smile on your face!
Pissing myself laughing with this. Feels like I'm in a room with my mates talking about the shit that really matters. Thanks guys.
Wish I'd seen this live. When us (my mates and I) 40 year olds still only talk and text message in Arnie, Stallone and RoboCop lines you know we're fans.
The film's of this era are just pure fun!
That last fight with Bennett was awesome. Matrix hit him with so many lefts, he was begging for a right (nod to another 85 action movie).
Gentlemen, it may have been over a year since you've aired this episode. Nonetheless, thank you for the entertainment and company today while traveling on the left lane on the Autobahn.
As a former Marine, I always laugh hard at how grenades blow up buildings with the big ass fireballs and shit in the movies
Its definitely not like that in real life
Thank you for your service, Cousin Eddie. I don't think anyone takes the physics in these kinds of movies seriously. At least I never did. I remember seeing this movie in college with friends and us all joking about how ridiculous it was, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
@Giuseppe Shmo oh shit haha I never thought of that before lmao
They have different effects when Arnold throws them.
Or when he would come out of cover with the pig and just unloading on all of those pissant soldiers...
That and how people fly backwards when a bullet hits them. And glad you made it home, brother.
Listening to this stream yesterday and I went straight home afterwork and had to watch Commando! Brilliant
The shed scene was mostly cut for the theatrical version. The crazy cartoon violence was restored/extended in the dvd and bluray directors cut.
My Parents were one of those, as long as it kept me and my brother quiet on a Friday night they didn't care what type of film it was.
My parents were the same
My mom was hardcore Christian Conservative and thought pokemon was demonic yet terminator 2, matrix, predator, aliens and many others slipped through the cracks 😂😂
One of my all time favourite movies. I saw it for the first time while in South Africa as a kid. My Aunt lives out there and my Parents used to visit a bit. I watched it so much I knew every line pretty much off heart. To the point that even now (Many, many years later!). I was correcting you and Az on some of your quotes :D
It was an absolute pleasure listening to you both for the full time.
Now I'm going back to watch your Terminator video :D
Please keep doing these :D
Good evening Drinker, 4.5Hrs of awesomeness - ah cannae wait! 😁
Bill Paxton is a Legend!
I love how drinker keeps bringing back to all those amazing movies. I find myself constantly having to get them and give them another watch :)).
Best movie of all time. Even if it was a short with just Arnold throwing the lead pipe and his one-liner it would still be the most epic action movie of all time.
This was Arnie when he was still peak Olympus body
Not as far as I know. In his autobiography he mentions few times, that when he was starting his movie career he had to LOSE quite a few kilo, because he was too big for movies. Those who hired him obviously wanted him mainly for his physique, but even for them his prime form was too much, he would be too big on camera.
Peak Arnie was even bigger :)
@@kalash_nikov what a fuckin legend
He got quite lean for this movie. He must have cut so hard for this.
@@beardedbjorn5520
He wasn't that lean.
He knew eventually that bad boy was coming off..
This is hands down, one of my favorite videos! A big thank you to two of my favorite TH-camrs.
Professional wrestlers called that move the 'Roar Spot', which quite fits Arnie in this movie.
Every man should see Commando as a child - agreed!
Vernon Wells was also in Weird Science. I understand he was not the original actor to play in Bennett in Commando hence the awkward costume fit.
I'm not gonna shoot you between the eyes I'm gonna shoot you between the balls🤣🤣🤣led owf sum steem bennet
The watch with the incredibly loud countdown that is only audible when it's being looked at always made me laugh, if Matrix was here he'd laugh too.
Lololol
2 guys talk for hours about what's great about COMMANDO .... literally everything
I believe the ending mansion is the same one from the ending of Beverly Hills Cop.
It's the typical bad guy columbian villa in 80s, God I miss old action films.
AZ and Drinker, the dream team!
Drinker, babyface, your laughter in this conversation is contagious & I've never seen this Arnie classic slipped through the cracks of my Arnie childhood, working on it!
I remember in the year 1995 I was 7-8 years old (I don't remember exactly) and I somehow came across a VHS tape on which there were 2 films
Commando and Cobra-this tape I rubbed to holes, was almost my favorite
And phrases like "LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNETT" and "You're a disease and I'm the cure" have stayed with me forever
Hello from Russia
caught most of this live .. sounded like you guys had a lot of fun .. AZDAHAHAHA!
One of the great action movies. Entertaining and fun, as well.
Feeding the deer ice cream. So 80s ❤
One of the best streams and of one of the best action movies ever! You guys play off each other extremely well. Very entertaining. I laughed the whole time. Love you guys, thanks for the stream!! 🍻🍻🍻
Rewatched Commando recently. It is gold!!!! Now I'm back here for the awesome chat.
What do you expect me to smell them?
Arnold: I did.
That's why u don't wear Axe body spray when on duty.
absolutely love Commando, hilarious film, so many great cheesy lines, love it!
I love AZ's Arnie impressions, spot on 😂
Watched it today after listening to this live last night.
Absolutely love these two guys!
One of the first movies I remember seeing, definitely my first Arnold movie. I remember my younger brother watching it when he was only 3 years old haha
The bit with the shed was from Commando: The Snyder Cut.
Awesome, thank you guys!
That was very entertaining. Thanks, lads.
Rae Dawn Chong was good in “Tales from the Darkside”. Her vignette with James Remar Lover’s Vow was the best
She was also good in "Quest for Fire".
Sarah Conner... :)
@@bodieofci5418 Totally. Her and Ellen Ripley. My big sister's rold models, no joke.
@@solarsailer4166 i fancied the pants off of Linda Hamilton in the day.
Sharon Stone in Total Recall
@@rubix41 Oh my god, yes!
