Spinning yarn is such a soothing and rewarding experience. I’ve had a few spinning wheels over the years, ended up selling my country spinner and Olympic wheel, but still have my first Ashford traditional wheel that was originally from the 70s. I just wasn’t going to have the space when we moved, but I miss those wheels. The country spinner is a great wheel for plying and spinning chunky art yarns, I loved mine!
Enjoy your spinning wheel. I bought yarn for the MCAL and swore this time I was going to participate. Well I decided to see what the first two clues looked like and that was the end of it for me. Maybe next time 😅
You’re so lovely and funny and sweet! I love your aesthetics and i keep drooling on your plants! I would love if you could make a podcast talking about them🙂 don’t worry about your spinning skills. I learned with a very old wheel and it took a while before i was more at ease with the tension and everything. I’m still a learner, but i spin for the pleasure of spinning. I don’t try to be perfect. So enjoy those meditative moments. You always choose the best colors! The fibers you are spinning are just! 👌🏼 looking forward to see more of your spinning and beautiful knitting 🧶 ❤️
Congratulations on your new spinning wheel! There is definitely a learning curve with learning to spin, however, I think that you’re going to be a natural! Have fun. I’m looking forward to seeing the yarn that you’ll create.
Hi! I am pretty new here but I just have to say, I love listening and watching your podcast. It is so refreshing and your episodes are just the right combination of things to make me feel cozy and inspired!
I love the fibre you bought. When I got my wheel a few years ago Craftsy had really great classes that taught me the basics. Good luck with your new hobby!
Your dedication to completion is so admirable. I too have finished some doubtful projects, and the sense of accomplishment is good. I am about to reclaim yarn from a 10 yo project, because of this podcast. We shall see. Be well.
I love you so much for your honesty!! I have to admit I really really do not like the MKAL shawl! It feels like the emperor's New clothes where nobody will actually say what they think (yuk!!😜) Spinning is SO much fun!!!! You are going to LOVE it! I now have a traveller, joy 2 and espinner 3 and love them all!! Can't wait to hear bout your progress🥰keep being you!
Congratulations on your new wheel, its beautiful. I’m a fairly new spinner myself. I have a Lendrum so can attest it’s a great all around spinning wheel also. A favorite wool dyer of mine is WeeChickadee. Her fiber is so beautiful to spin. My spinning suggestions would be to learn one skill at a time and then build on that. I don’t know much about grist or twist. I just know what I like and spin. But, what I will suggest is start with short forward draw and count how many times you peddle between draws. And try and get in a rhythm. Then look at your twist. Is it twisting on itself? Then take it down one peddle and check out the twist. Just keep it on the easiest whirl for the first spin and just get used to it.
Congratulations on your new wheel. You will totally love spinning. Don't spin on cheap icky fiber. It will frustrate you and make things harder to do. I have a Kiwi2 and I absolutely love it. It is probably my most used wheel.
Ooooo!!!! I’m so glad to live vicariously through you and your monthly Nest fiber. I just picked up an 8oz bag from them. It won’t arrive until Sunday, but I’m excited to peep it.
You’ve inspired me to pull out my spinning wheel that I bought last year! I got so overwhelmed with learning the “how to’s” that I put it away for another time. I look forward to seeing your progress! Lisa, from Maine.
Loved the podcast, so sorry about the stomach bug, so hateful. I have 10 kids and last year, with 9 at home, everyone was barfing😢 little kids were better the next day and all the teens and adults just couldn’t deal 😂. The family that pukes together… stays together, or maybe not. I love the Woolley, they are so helpful. Order some undyed BFL and practice your spinning. Whatever you end up with you can dye with koolaid with the kids! They will have a blast. I have only been spinning for 2 years and it is fun but I still feel like a nubie. Your Kiwi will serve you well!
I used the Brushed Alpaca Silk with the Drops Flora to make the Classic by Espace Tricot. I used it as if it was a lace weight and I loved the fabric it made. It's dense but very lightweight. So exciting to see the spinning wheel. I would love to have one some day.
Just found your podcast and I really enjoyed it. I have an electric spinner and have been wanting to get it out and you have inspired me to do so. Thanks 🥰🌹
Congratulations on your beautiful new wheel! I bought an Ashford Kiwi 2 probably 10 years ago to dip my toes in spinning and I still love it. I spin both woollen and worsted style yarns and find it to be a great wheel. 😊 I love the look of the Kiwi 3! What an upgrade! Have fun spinning. 😊 Also, I don’t know if you’ve seen the Soulful Spinning TH-cam channel but I find it to be a very relaxing and inspiring TH-cam channel for spinning. Wool’n spinning is also very good and more focussed on the technical aspects of knitting. 😊
Hey Kaci! just wanted to tell you about my MKAL experience and what I have done with my shawl. First, it's been a learning experience and I love that. I am on clue 4 because I skipped clue 3 completely. I just could not see the purpose. I watched some of the video, looked at spoilers and finished shawls and no. There are some gorgeous ones out there but I already was struggling with the colors I was using. So, I finished the cables and decided to take the next clue down the edge of the cables and work the rows. I am actually really liking how it's looking. Next I'm going to modify the zigs and zags at the very bottom. I drew it out and it might include some crochet or not. So don't be afraid to change it up. You always do such beautiful work. Love listening and knitting. It's like we're just hanging out. Can't wait to see your new cast on all done.
Love your podcasts, how you find the time to fit everything you do into your life amazes me. I used to love it when you spoke about the books you are reading and what you had been watching and noticed you haven’t done it for a while, would love to see it back sometime. Xxxx
Enjoy your spinning! I'm fairly new too. I tried Nube. I steamed it as well a bit and that helped, but honestly I found learning on Merino difficult. I found polwarth or corridale and other more long fibre staple, or toothy yarns much much easier to spin. Merino is so slippery. Also if you do make yarn that is a bit uneven, it's great for weaving with! 💕
Hi Kaci! Beautiful episode, as usual! 😊 Good job on your spinning. I have wondered about the Nube roving before. Never purchased any buy admired all of the beautiful color blends. Regarding the MKAL... I want to know what I'm committing my time and money to which is why mystery KALs have never appealed to me. And, although Stephen West is an absolute artist with fiber, many of his designs are way too over the top for me, so I don't ever see myself doing one of his MKALs. Lol.
Ahhh thank you for the shoutout and sharing the baby mushroom pin, it matches your project bag so perfectly!!! I love your podcast and need a playlist from all of the music you feature ❤
For Nube…the E is silent. Also, if you can spin Nube you can spin anything. It’s notoriously hard to spin, so be kind to yourself. So excited to see you spinning!
Happy Spinning ! I've never tried spinning but I can imagine it could become addictive. COINCIDENCE, I am about to cast on the Felix Cardigan in the same Drops yarn (different colour) , looking forward to seeing your F.O. 😍
Haven’t watched the whole podcast but you shared Malabrigo Nube immediately. It’s notoriously difficult to spin. The Woolery has something really cheap called Heinz 57. I think they give you a pound of it if you buy a wheel. It’s cheap, undyed, and super easy. I also recommend corriedale for a beginner.
I am so very exciting for your spinning adventure! I love growing cotton (white, brown, and green) and I love spinning it and making it into things I use around my kitchen
Hang in there with your spinning. So many people told me to aim to spin at least a few minutes a day and each day will be easier. My first wheel was a Kromski Prelude and now I have a Kromski Minstrel. I love spinning but first and foremost I am a knitter. Enjoy your new experience. Be patient!!!
I am also a very beginner spinner and also a very frustrated spinner because I cannot draft! So I researched and finally chose a Schraft Lady Bug wheel and I love it but it’s me-I cannot draft before over Spinning! (I also have a EEW6 wheel and same problem!) But I love your podcasts and wish you luck! I need lessons and no one to teach me except TH-cam!❤
I think if you picked up and re-knit the neck ribbing either folded over or just deeper it would really help the fit of your Junction sweater. Adding some more short rows would also likely help.
not for nothin' (NJ idiom??) when do you sleep, girl!! 3 kids, husband, knitting, bees, animals, podcasting -- and a "small" (not by the looks of it) farm. you make me tired just listening to al of that🙃 love your podcast and your aesthetic
I just found your podcast and I love it! Going back to listen to the others. Question….. both my daughter and I think you sound like you are from Tennessee (we are from East Tennessee). Have you spent some time in Tennessee or is that just a pure Arkansas accent? 😁 No matter, love listening to you.
Where do you like to buy your yarn? I printed off some patterns from your giftting video and am unsure if I will find it at a brand store. Your bag is so cute.
Tayler from Wool, Needles, Hands is doing a Felix KAL (I know, I know…not another KAL! Lol) but I’m actually making mine with malibrigo yarn and loving it so much. It knits up so quickly. Still on clue 1 of the MKAL over here. 🐢🐌🦥
I bought the Kiwi 3 to start spinning and I’ve loved it especially with a small space and moving. Your first go at it looks lovely! I have notifications on for when your videos come out…. I enjoyed watching today while my kids slept in, a cuppa joe on the side table and knitting in hand. 😊 Thank you for sharing your knitting journey. ❤
I got the ashford as well and I am totally new and yes, it is so hard to get started all on your own. It has been such a learning curve and I put mine away and need to get it back out. I sent you an email. Maybe i got the address wrong. 1🤦♀️
Find your channel super inspirational! I just need to know if that plant on your left is a string of turtles?? I too got a spinning wheel this year after starting on a spindle, I also considered the Kiwi, but hubby decided an e-spinner was more practical. I am planning to spin my merino-silk fibre for the Zosia wrap (thanks Kaci 😊) in the cinnamon colour. Your life really resonates with me.
You should check out fiber love diary youtube channel. Trish is amazing at spinning. There is a live chat that gathers on Sunday. They are so sweet and helpful.
Noooo you’ve reignited my desire for a spinning wheel and I was doing so well at ignoring it 😅

I watched Stephen do the final clue today. The finished shawl is pretty. Nit sure I Wouk’s wear it but it is very Stephen.

Wow your sweater you’re wearing looks so beautiful on you don’t change it it looks great

I just got my first drop spindle. Reminding myself knitting took me awhile to figure out so I need to be patient;)

Hello from Mounds Illinois.
I purchase from Wool Warehouse frequently. They really have some nice yarn with great prices. The best part is receiving my order within a few days.
Love the music. Who is it please. Also enjoyed your video
I agree with your take on the MKAL shawl, but at least your colors are good.
I just found your podcast and I love it! Going back to listen to the others. Question….. both my daughter and I think you sound like you are from Tennessee (we are from East Tennessee). Have you spent some time in Tennessee or is that just a pure Arkansas accent? 😁 No matter, love listening to you.
I've got an Ashford Kiwi as well, it's a great beginner's wheel isn't it? 😁
That's so interesting that you prefer metal needles! I'm the opposite, love wood and bamboo, metal is too slippy and clinky for me.
Where do you like to buy your yarn? I printed off some patterns from your giftting video and am unsure if I will find it at a brand store. Your bag is so cute.
I just discovered your podcast and I love it! And I love the music in it, what song is playing around minute 17?
jillianeve has some fantastic beginner videos
Lovely video as always ☺️
Do tell. What kind of peas were those?
Purple hull!
@@YoungfolkKnits Ahhhh Haaa!! I should have known that. 😁♥️
Does anyone know what the name or writer of the song at 13:30 is?

Meant to say, look up Jillian eve on TH-cam and also welford weaving☺️
Do yall raise sheep? Maybe you should think about getting a few!
Very inspiring, love your podcast! Random question, where did you get your wool slippers in the spinning b role? I’ve been wanting some just like that
L.L. Bean! They are glerups 😍
I am almost at the same place on the MKAL as you are. I want to turn it into a Cowl. Not loving the final shawl.....8-(
