I think our biggest problem is that we may go to the Lord but we don’t tell Him exactly how we feel, how we hurt, we think if we just tell Him a little bit that will be fine but it isn’t - lay it ALL down - ask Him for help, let Him know you don’t know what else to do and would He direct you in the right direction

It's nice advice, but let's talk reality. Around here, professional Christian counselors are $80 to $120 per hour. Every week or even every two weeks is way out of the reach of many families. Insurance often only has a secular network that they are in. This is what we found in looking for a teen counselor. Help isn't always available unless you want to go with secular unfortunately. To imply that counseling should be a preventative and not a when you're in crisis is a luxury that most families can't afford unless you have insurance that will cover it. I tried getting a Christian psychiatrist for my daughter last year when she was going through a bad illness and was very depressed and anxious and we were quoted $400 for the initial session and $200 after that by a Christian psychiatrist and she didn't take any insurance at her practice. Obviously counselors are going to be a bit less but we still .
That’s a shame counseling ministry is so costly. The church body would be better suited to minister to each other because they should know you and your family enough to have insight. I went to a “Christian” counselor for 6 months at $90 a session and was actually emotionally abused by her because she was so dead set against divorce that she basically told me to suck it up, live with the abuse and that Jesus was spat on so why should I expect anything more from my husband.. a trusty mature, godly friend who will speak truth is far better to minister to your situation than a paid counselor in my opinion.
"if we are sick we go to the doctor or try to take supplements.." That is not what the Word says. Not that there is anything wrong with going to the doctor if you need to or that there is anything wrong with supplements as long as that is not where your faith is. When we are sick we should be taking the medicine of the Word (daily not just when sickness tries to come on us), we should be getting hands laid on us we should be meditating on Romans 8:11 until we get a revelation of the healing that has already been given to us 2,000 years ago - By His STRIPES I am healed - not by the doctor, not by the supplements....Again, there is NO condemnation whatsoever if you need a doctor's help but that should NEVER be where we put our faith or it should never be the first place we go for healing. God is our healer! What do we do when symptoms try to come on us? No, we aren't to go the doctor as followers of Jesus Christ we are to SPEAK TO THEM and tell them NO, you will not come on me! I am a child of the living God with LIFE living in me and devil you are NO right no me! I would have loved to hear that answer from these Christian women because is the Word of God.
