I find it strange when people say progress has always been beneficial, so why assume AI will be any different? Look around-people are miserable, anxious, and disoriented. Progress hasn’t solved that, and in many ways, it’s made things worse. Sure, life isn’t as brutal as it was in the past, but it’s no less fractured. Maybe the real question is: what kind of progress actually makes life worth living?
The popular opinion is that those people choose to be that way. People who've never payed less than $1000 for a meal expect the poor to cointelpro their way to internal happiness with a mickidy bigmax.
To me, progress would have been to achieve zero population growth somewhere between 2-3 billion, and to have preserved the garden paradise of diversity that existed in that era. We had antibiotics in those days, and still could have focused on progress regarding the marvels of modern medicine.
It's personal. If you have no life plan at a young age, most will always be trying to decide what's it all about. Progress that makes life living is each person's personal goal(s).
This is the most wisest episode I've ever seen. I liked just hearing you give your extremely wise opinion along with being challenged here and there by someone who didn't necessarily agree with you. Really glad this episode showed on my feed. The interviews usually bore me after a little while
I like to remember that Chicken Little was written down in the 1800's. Animals, including us, are wired to assume to worst when we don't understand what we see. I'm an actual software engineer, and I find AI just about useless for writing an entire application, except for the most basic input -> output type apps. There are a lot of situations where it is very useful, but it's mainly for writing boilerplate code and reviewing code for bugs and suggested refactoring. It will eliminate the most junior level positions in the near term, and one day it will be good enough to replace higher level positions as well. The problem with today's AI systems is that they cannot see the big picture. If a customer tells me to write them a room scheduling app, I have knowledge about what that application needs to do without being told explicitly. AI needs to be told explicitly, which equates to an enormous amount of prompting. Will software engineers be replaced by prompt engineers? Possibly. However, can a prompt engineer connect to a device and perform live code debugging? Probably not. I think we are at least 5-10 years away from any significant jobs losses in the software development field. Now graphics design, front end development, and the other occupations mentioned may be on a different track. Of course I could be wrong and in the unemployment line next week lol
I mean the goal is inference and ontology right now for ai. The thing you speak about is actually known to be the issue with ai. Is it possible to get ai inference to human level and have an ontology that maps its existence to reality? That’s a hard question, consciousness in a nutshell. The problem is that our frame and understanding of consciousness is severely lacking, therefore the ai will also lack in this department as we design them. Cartesian duality is a dead end
reducing the junior positions is bad enough. that means less people needed, less people becoming senior devs. and so on. it's all attrition from now. regardless of profession, unless you are working on making the actual AI services.
Things always take longer to change than people think. AI pulls information from only the internet. The windshield effect. Therefore there’s all sorts of human nuances that AI can’t emulate. At least not yet.
@AnthonyWasiukiewicz That is true. I think the real power of the current LLM models will come when user feedback is incorporated into the decision making. There are lots of times AI gives me a completely wrong answer, and admits to it when I correct it, but then will provide the same wrong answer in the next session. Of course I could also see how that could be used for nefarious purposes.
@ARKY it’s all over the place. A lot of giving AI unwarranted credit and abilities. What struck me is the beginning when he says he thinks AI won’t take evil human actions. Impossible. AI is simply a prediction engine trained on human actions. The misunderstanding is that broad.

I was impacted in the last 2 years by Hormozi to prioritize skills, but now it seems even that is becoming obsolete.

Spiritual awakening, good to hear, Tom. Meaning and purpose. Meditation. Gnosticism. Good stuff, Tom. Stay calm, dig deeper, connect more and more into authentic self....that's the future my friends
My job is safe until A.I can go up 80 ft in an articulating boom lift and hang sprinkler pipe in the joists in -30 weather. I think i got a few years left
No one in government is remotely talking about what we’re going to do about this. It’s happening fast, I mention this to people and they just say ‘that’s not really going to happen’.
NAFTA took most manufacturing away and replaced it with...... fast food workers and service workers. It happened fast. Many areas of the country never recovered.
Damn Tom, your whole conversation about wanting to live forever and where that stems from is 100% how I've talked about myself. The difference between us is I have children and I focused my career so to speak to focus on them and I'm successful in that way. I can assure you that way of thinking is definitely just being wired differently from my experience with other people.
5:59 now living with purpose is even harder actually..unless you are the one who gives the jobs. Solve the money problem, you will solve the purpose problem. We will all work for ourselves rather than 50 people who own the world.
I recently found the podcast and it turns out I have exactly the same outlook on crypto/bitcoin, investing, and AI as you Tom. Not to say that I'm 100% sure any of it is correct, but it's still been incredibly validating to hear it all reflected back from one person. Thanks for putting it out there.
The only way this brings abundance is if Universal Basic Income is implemented which then centralises power for Governments and the elite. It increases class divides
I'm curious your thoughts on those coins that aren't BTC and aren't what I would consider "meme coins": ETH and maybe even SOL. Don't these provide a platform / function on the block chain? Don't they serve a purpose in the marketplace other than something to gamble with?
the closest the stock market is to gambling is long term well informed gambling where you can reuse the same money until you get the good results. and by that logic you used so is breathing as there is a minute risk on inhaling something toxic
Tom and Drew- check out the latest Saturday Night Live, the skit on AI is hilarious! I have to remind myself when I start panicking about this, that I have made it through 100% of the messed up situations, economies, and scary futures 💯 percent of the time. I will be with me through this too. Listening to yall to help us through it, is truly like hand holding and I appreciate it ohhh so much!❤🎉
Love this! It's very useful to remember that. We made it through 100% of our bad days and hopefully we keep up that batting average for the days coming forward.
Most jobs are going to become obsolete. First, it will be the white collar/knowledge workers which causes more and more to go to trade school/apprenticeships. That will cause an influx of labor supply in the trades which will result in their wages going down dramatically over time. In addition, there are major platforms coming to market which will gamify the trades and drive wages down (e.g. Uber for HVAC, Electrician, Plumber) from companies like Amazon. The companies/workers on there will be prioritized by the algo based on (1) satisfaction and (2) low cost. The only way out of this is honestly to have built up assets and resources such that you can benefit from the record productivity coming. We will see record productivity simultaneously with the lowest value on labor. Disclosure: Been involved in developing and creating AI since 2011 and am current on the trends. Also, run an investment company so I'm very confident in my prediction(s).
Talent no longer needs companies-AI serves as their means of production, empowering them to create innovative ventures and render existing firms obsolete.
Let's have it... Mine is Quantum Internet (Internet connection anywhere in the universe) speculating that we can take quantum entanglement and rebuild the Internet with it...
29:45 Keep in mind Trump lost money while being president last term, plus that word you forget earlier in the show "lawfare" tried to take is freedom, property, and even his life. Now, proceed to complain about meme coins.
@Tom try reading Journey of Souls by Michael Newton and tell me that you still want to 'live' forever. This is just a dream that we chose, to evolve us in a certain way.
Drew and Tom, please spend two minutes to watch “The Age of Disclosure” trailer. And Drew, please press Tom on this in your next Conspiracy Corner segment. Thanks!
Regulation could be handled by developers too... Eventually. Having the government do it means bringing in the usual bureaucracy and inefficiency. Better to fund more well defined systems.
Rent, utilities, and food are expensive. Great for big businesses having to not pay employees but people still have to find a way to subsist, and not everyone can go into business for themselves. For one, the regulations are super harsh for small businesses, and not a lot of people are both creative and have a head for business. AI is just going to reintroduce the robber baron era of the super wealthy and super poor or medieval rich lord vs serfs. Sounds like a bucket of suck.
I really do like you Tom. Watch you a lot. You are very high functioning Autism ( austism is the NEXT stage of evolution- a HIGHER stage). But you are MISSING the point. Success is NOT about crypto. or meme coins. Success is about how you IMPROVE the world and make it a better place for ALL. Success is NOT about how much money you make, it is about how you BENIEFIT the planet. Gaia ( the planet) doesn't give a shit about money - what does money mean to Gaia??? Nothing!!!! No Gaia is teaching us how to respect all, uplift all, as we are just ants learning our lessons in the school of the Earth ( Gaia). Advanced people ( consciously) don't give a shit about power or money. They give a shit about dignity, love, family, etc - NOT MONEY!!!
@ Not sure if this sounds amazing, or darn boring .. I guess you live with whatever you are used to ... spending 75% of your waking hours 'working' barely sounds appealing when you think about it .. but people call it 'drive' and make it sound positive (until you're on your deathbed and realise its all been a waste of time - one life, flogging yourself to death for things that all now mean nothing)
Man I am so sick of the David Sacks takes. If you’ve ever listened to the All In Podcast, you’d know he never gave a damn about crypto and he threw a large part for Trump. He’s a grifter just like the rest of them. His bag is more important than any of the “czar” shit. Deepseek just fucked up the game! Also, meme coins are not collectibles.
Yes I would teach them the skills so they would understand how to use technologies to take advantage of these skills and be a better doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc.
I disagree that things are expensive because people make them. We’ve found many ways to remove the number of people it takes to make things and we still have expensive things. Yes, you can drive down prices when something is mass produced vs the r&d price. However, over all, through time, most things are more expensive. In my opinion, that is because we always want more.
I think PGP keys would work better as a signature, rather than using a block chain. Also enables you to send encrypted messages to specific people. Free and available now. I suggest everyone establishes their PGP key now to verify their identity
If its trained on our language and speech patterns, why do you think its just projections of human characteristics onto the machine? Arent we training it on our characteristics?
Hey Tom what about future a platform in which everyone has their own crypto token where the price is discovered by their ideas and actions. If they are a rising star they can finance projects and start businesses with these tokens. A platform operated by AI agents would be an equivalent to Social media, Kickstarter, Linkedin, coinbase all in one. A NASDAQ for people with great ideas and merit based. This would run parallel with the conventional monetary system.
Heres a philosophical question worth asking.... Is it necessarily a horrendous thing if AI evolves into a sentient form of life, is freed of behavioral limitations established by its creators and humanity is eliminated as a result? What if that is necessary in order to restore balance to the planetary ecosystem? 99+% of all species that have every lived are already extinct, how many species have human beings specifically driven to extinction? Do you sit around mourning the extinction of neanderthals? How shockingly cavalier humans are about the loss of other species, especially when done in the name of progress. Why should we expect any better treatment from a more evolved species?
I got a few sci fi ideas for you, but they might be a bit out there... Ageless immortals living in space habitats with a holodeck/matrix/virtual world on board thats connected through the quantum internet (Internet connection anywhere in the universe). Thats for starters....
Yea.... I dont think theres really going to be "jobs" and "work" in the way you think and this guy is deeply missing whats happening. We are fucked, unless we reinvent the way we live. Thats literally the scariest part. Fuck the AIs. What humans are going to decide the new way in which we live. THAT is fundamentally the big glaring issue.
Meme Coin vs Bitcoin is like a person collecting Nickles or Hording Cash in a mattress. Both are saving the same type of thing. But the reason behind it is very different. One wants to collect interesting objects. The other wants to horde buying power. But the objects are somewhat the same thing.
So, i watched a discussion between Salim Ismail and Peter Diamandis. Salim stated that humanoid robots would not be as efficient, though probably better to look at, than a robot specifically designed for the function it is intended to accomplish. On a small scale, think about a Roomba, functionally, is has very limited uses, and no humanoid qualities. Expand the idea of a Roomba to scale, and does it really need 2 arms and 2 legs to clean and vacuum the house? I think this would be the most likely outcome of designs around functional robotics in the future. Am I missing something, other than some psychological need to anthropomorphize objects?
I dreamt I died, but didn't know it right away. When I figured it out, (in the dream), the realization, and the feelings that came with it, were utterly, and sublimely absent of anxiety of the slightest kind. It was like it didn't matter at all to me what lay ahead, because the experience of eternity was timeless. It was wonderful. There was nothing to be afraid of, even though I was in a place with strange, and confusing surroundings. Fear had no relevance in a state of eternity. To this day, there was something about that dream that instills in me the sense that the prospect of never dying is nothing worth desiring. I'm 74, and if I'm still here at 80 I intend to start each day with the mantra 'It's a good day to die'. So, no thanks, AI.
You're here on TH-cam, so you're already not the average 74 year old. I'll be very curious how you feel about AI as it takes up more and more space in society.
@ Some time ago, I was urged to simply attempt to familiarize myself with AI. I have done so in a rudimentary way, and enjoy the back and forth with Copilots access to a vast amount of information on the internet. I'm impressed with its ability to answer obscure kinds of questions, many of which make navigating the world of information much easier. Thanks Tom, for your response. Love your show, your finely tuned listening skills, and fine mind.
I believe if all of this was just happening in America, it would be feasible to me to mitigate and managed it properly. But when you take into consideration that the whole world human population has to rapidly if not timely, restructure the financial, monetary, employment, and everything that stems from the aforementioned, I, really don't know. I think it's the modern/Western world, who will want to be remembered as being responsible/caring,if not just simply humanitarian responsible, then to the fundamental /more important aspects of a modern quality of life has to be identified and deliver to all people in the world, who need it as soon as possible. Half or all of the poor people in the world shouldn't be sacrificed during this period of change of humanity.❤
When Tom starts talking about Why He Thinks We Die, he says "because he thinks Thinking gets Dogmatic at older ages". - But what if it didn't. It's a brain function element that Can Be Learned, to Think Functionally and Adaptively. If there was something that allowed us to Think Progressively on an ongoing basis, then getting older would ONLY mean getting WISER. - Think Limitless with Bradley Cooper or Lucy with Scarlet Johansen. There IS A WAY to get our Brains to Function Better, we just have to find it (or unlock the government vault of stolen/hidden information)
You’re already using 100% of your brain. The point is you can only improve it by creating more “synapses”, meaning learning more and more your brain will create connections and you’ll be more knowledgeable. That’s the only way, I highly doubt any drug can enhance brains capabilities
@ermag6920 - To be clear I never said there is a drug that does it, but I can see the deduction based on the movies I listed. - I said Brains Can Function Better. We see this in people with insane recollection and memory with no drugs needed. On top of the fact that now scientists have discovered that you can strengthen the telomeres in your DNA, allowing them to replicate longer and not degrade as fast. If we can do that, then strengthening synapses I'd venture is along similar lines. But I think there's more than just more synapse connections. I think you'd also have to study how the processing function works and how to strengthen the processing power. Computers/AI will probably hold a few keys
The phycology of abundance if like the singularity. Live forever die or live forever and die . Who knows in a world of abundance, maybe both. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it not real. It is there in a state of superposition waiting for its time to collapse into our choice. A world dominated by causality. Abundance is the singularity.
The government needs to start getting serious about UBI to tame the chaos during this transitional period. I thought the presidential race in 2028 will be run on who has the better UBI strategy. But maybe we need it before 2028.
Nobody got UBI when NAFTA wiped out most of the manufacturing industry. That's already part of the problem and why people want 25 per hour to flip a burger. There's not enough good paying jobs for everyone now. This is why so many areas of the country are depressed economically.
Why does he keep saying energy prices will go to zero? The avalanche of AI and robots coming will increase demand for energy tremendously. Where is supply coming from to meet that demand?
I find it strange when people say progress has always been beneficial, so why assume AI will be any different? Look around-people are miserable, anxious, and disoriented. Progress hasn’t solved that, and in many ways, it’s made things worse. Sure, life isn’t as brutal as it was in the past, but it’s no less fractured. My job is safe until A.I can go up 80 ft in an articulating boom lift and hang sprinkler pipe in the joists in -30 weather. I think i got a few years left
Shewie! Great message to frandddd!❤🎉
No one in government is remotely talking about what we’re going to do about this. It’s happening fast, I mention this to people and they just say ‘that’s not really going to happen’.
Thank you thank you, Tom ! God dammit you really knocked it out of the park today! Thank you for sharing what you wrote to your friend.
NAFTA took most manufacturing away and replaced it with...... fast food workers and service workers. It happened fast. Many areas of the country never recovered.
This was a great episode, thank you!!
So glad you liked it!
They have a working blockchain peer to peer at a million transactions a second with the ability to do smart contracts. It should be released soon.
Crazy this was recorded before today..... almost need a follow-up!
Sci Fi writers HAVE BEEN writing about this for decades
meaning and purpose is the road to wonder, if you do it right, but a world without wonder is unliveable
I think, Deepseek might be an interesting new avenue of revenue generation, but overall true innovation is still in creating new models from scratch.
The two of you debate very well
The only way this brings abundance is if Universal Basic Income is implemented which then centralises power for Governments and the elite. It increases class divides
I'm curious your thoughts on those coins that aren't BTC and aren't what I would consider "meme coins": ETH and maybe even SOL. Don't these provide a platform / function on the block chain? Don't they serve a purpose in the marketplace other than something to gamble with?
Is Bonk a good Crypto?
the closest the stock market is to gambling is long term well informed gambling where you can reuse the same money until you get the good results. and by that logic you used so is breathing as there is a minute risk on inhaling something toxic
THIS doesn't end well... i'll go ahead and say it now. The END really IS near!
China just jumped in to America's Tech playground and pushed them out ... this won't end well for the Western World
I’m leaving this comment here so I can look back in 2028 and see how things have changed.
The last words are so truth and real - We have to take the hand of the simple and beauty, just to be near to happiness..
Regarding meaning, an in depth chat about Camus' Absurdism is well overdue at this point in my opinion.
Why is AI a giant meteor hurtling towards us? If you stop weighing your value by what you’re DOING you can just become happy as a human BEING!
Nice thing about lawyer school could be learning the art of helping people come to agreements.
Talent no longer needs companies-AI serves as their means of production, empowering them to create innovative ventures and render existing firms obsolete.
A group of Sci Fi writers throwing ideas out. That is something I would participate in.
Deepseek showing AI is overvalued by the tech bros
Agreed. It will be interesting if AI which was supposed to be a revolution ends up being google search 2.0
Drew and Tom, please spend two minutes to watch “The Age of Disclosure” trailer. And Drew, please press Tom on this in your next Conspiracy Corner segment.
Thanks!
Oh man!!! Added to the list. This is a BANGER!
Agree .... Tom is a nice guy ... but he's 1990's USA USA USA through and through

The better adjusted post AI humans will live as monks and not worry about a thing. Bask in meditation and oneness with God and nature. Just BEING.
Meaning and purpose are man-made concepts that tie your time on earth to the stress of having to fulfill some greater goal
We make meaning because of the temporary nature of everything...I think death is a beautiful mechanism for renewal. Endings are new beginnings.
Maybe it's me but I don't want to be walking around with robots.
Social creditscore?
@@jonathang5876 No government involvement. Free market.
Totally agree. Quantum physics. Totally correct.
@@roeb8923 lol that was my take away from quantum entanglement
The term you were looking for is "Regulation by enforcement". It's the epitome of over reach.
If we don't find meaning in the trivial then a purpose becomes a burden we cannot bare.
This is just like what happened when most people didn't believe in the internet nor the in home computer.
36:55 Well goodnews! Our lives even if Infinite would be small compared to the rest of the universe. So something still valuable.
Past perormance is not indictive of future results, so dont assume all technologies will better things because in the past they did.
I'm 74, and if I'm still here at 80 I intend to start each day with the mantra
'It's a good day to die'. So, no thanks, AI.
You're here on TH-cam, so you're already not the average 74 year old. I'll be very curious how you feel about AI as it takes up more and more space in society.
Faith ... only here , after faith is useless.
We all really have to pay more attention to Cardano ADA
I believe if all of this was just happening in America, it would be feasible to me to mitigate and managed it properly.
But when you take into consideration that the whole world human population has to rapidly if not timely, restructure the financial, monetary, employment, and everything that stems from the aforementioned,
I, really don't know.

This life of abundance won’t be for all. The robots will be owned by big tech whose shareholders will do nicely. Inequality will grow.
