"Three rounds": one for the lover, one for the unfaithful wife, one for himself to avoud being hanged. :-) I've never come across a better song that addresses the topic.
Seen them live, met & hung out with them & they even called my daughter & son during their times in hospital to raise their spirits! They're truly phenomenal musically and as people ❤️
These guys are a fun rabbit hole. They got some really cool songs to give a listen to. Black Lung, Down That Road, Massacre of El Kuroke, Honey You, Broken Cowboy, The Recap, Gunslinger's Glory, and Diamond Ring to name a few. But you can put their catalogue on random and not get a bad choice lol
Ok yeah cause this song was great and very catchy and I’m personally very interested in more of their music. Thanks again for the support and the suggestions……Rob 🔒
That is a cello. This is the only time I’ve seen it played like that! This band is great, lyrics are always ‘dark’. You must ck out Colter Wall, The Devil Wears a Suit & Tie. See the live version, recorded in a brewery. He will blow your mind. Excellent musician & songwriter!
Just saw them in concert. Before the show I noticed extensive lighting and I was just expecting a straight blank stage with just a straight forward 4 guys on stage thing. They were epic. Great performance. There's a lot to them.
This is an alt country band from Saskatchewan. Is genre music has became one of my favorite. Pretty much it's a bunch of Gen xers that went acoustic. A lot of these bands have backgrounds and heavy metal and punk rock. Another band to check out is poor man's poison. Good video I can't wait to watch more of them keep up the good work guys 👍
My favorite band! Their music is always on rotation in my car and I have seen them 3 times and 2 more times in a couple of weeks! Do yourself (and me😬) a favor and check out their other stuff, PLEASE!
fun fact (and if you pay attention to the lyrics you'll pick it up), this song is about a husband catching his wife cheating on him and then promptly killing her before committing suicide. The upbeat tune hides the dark lyrics, all the music these guys make is awesome and goes super deep like that.
I like a bunch of these guy's songs. I'd classify their genre as either Indie-Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, or an element of all 3. The cello player/bassist Danny Kenyon has a day job as an engineer and had to take a year off touring with the band after allegations of sexual abuse surfaced. The charges proved to be baseless so he's back on tour with The Dead South for 2021. The banjo player Colton (Crawdaddy) Crawford wasn't able to tour with the band outside of Canada for a while so banjo player Eliza Mary Doyle filled in for him & sometimes plays with the band but is considered to be a former band member. Crawford & singer Nate Hilts were originally into heavy metal and after hearing bands like Old Crow Medicine Show & Trampled By Turtles they decided to try their hand at bluegrass. Colton Crawford then learned to play the banjo for the new band.
Check out You Are My Sunshine by those guys . Plus there is a live version of In Hell … in some smak bar where they include Beer cans opening to the song. Awesome . Cheers. Hope I have some moonshine to drink
First time I saw this I thought Amish too, LOL! But once vocals kicked in I fell in love with the sound and for sure NOT Amish, LOL. Their lyrics are really crazy up but I love that! Great band, and Canadian like me! Banjo Odyssey has even more crazy lyrics. LOL

This is the kind of music you get when you live in Saskatchewan , it's the long winters really and the wheat ... just fields and fields of wheat , then yes some more wheat but the yellow fields are canola .
The lyrics: "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company" Dead love couldn't go no further Proud of and disgusted by her Push shove, a little bruised and battered Oh Lord I ain't coming home with you My life's a bit more colder Dead wife is what I told her Brass knife sinks into my shoulder Oh babe don't know what I'm gonna do I see my red head, messed bed, tear shed, queen bee My squeeze The stage it smells, tells, hell's bells, miss-spells Knocks me on my knees It didn't hurt, flirt, blood squirt, stuffed shirt Hang me on a tree After I count down, three rounds, in hell I'll be in good company Dead love couldn't go no further Proud of and disgusted by her Push shove, a little bruised and battered Oh Lord I ain't coming home with you My life's a bit more colder Dead wife is what I told her Brass knife sinks into my shoulder Oh babe don't know what I'm gonna do I see my red head, messed bed, tear shed, queen bee My squeeze The stage it smells, tells, hell's bells, misspells Knocks me on my knees It didn't hurt, flirt, blood squirt, stuffed shirt Hang me on a tree After I count down, three rounds, in hell I'll be in good company In hell I'll be in good company In hell I'll be in good company
The Dead South is not the genre I typically listen to but I have every album they have put out. It's difficult to put them in the country genre, their themes and sounds sounds like something you would hear in a Wild Old West film.
The genre you're thinking of is Bluegrass. Its the mother of country music and was what the cowboys sang. Appalachian Bluegrass is worth a listen if you like this.

I would consider this group a folk band, they have often referred to themselves as the evil version of Mumford and Sons. Danny Kenyon the bands cellist describes the meaning of the song “It's about a man who murders his cheating wife and is super stoked to go to hell with her, and it sounds grim.”
If you were confused by this one, try Banjo Oddessy next, lol! You'll love it but I'm already guessing you'll be somewhat confused. Another of theirs that's a favorite of mine is The Recap.
Guy caught his wife in bed with his best friend. Fight, knife, 2 unalived lovers, countdown 321 guy hung from tree. Dark story to a cheerful tune. Good times!
Can not believe any of the comments explained this song to you. It is about an abused husband who kills his wife and understands he will see her in hell.
Apparently from other videos/commentaries, it's about a husband who caught his wife cheating and he killed her and his lover then killed himself. So he tell , in hell i'm in good company because all three are in hell. (Type of music , blue-grass).
So their song is about a husband who kills his cheating wife and then himself thinking that when he goes to hell he’ll be with his wife with “good company” the song itself is not basic country but more bluegrass with twists and turns of country

Technically it’s “new grass”…their song Blue Trash is about traditional blue grass bands complaining about the changes to the music.
Canadian band from Saskatchewan. Eclectic band with an unusual sound and lyric topics and choices, but so many great songs.

Colton the banjo player came from a metal band which he adds some metal licks on the banjo which gives it a great push for the cello riffs
