Like you, I'm curious about everything and love learning about all these old things and am of course am happy if I can recognize things of value when I see them. I appreciate all the little knowledge nuggets you share.
Great info....are there any specific resources you can recommend to get started learning about the vintage items that are harder to research? Thanks so much!
My bread and butter so far has been used clothing and DVD's. I started listing post cards a few days ago; only one has sold. I have watchers on a few, but no bites yet. I only have around 100 postcards listed so far; I'm hoping I'll get better sell-through when I get up to 1,000. I can list around 50 per day, but I have a large order of clothing coming, and that's going to take up a lot of my time. I won't list any postcard for less than $7 with free shipping (I refuse to ship untracked), so it might end up being a long-tail game for me.
In other words, do not be intimidated by what you don't know~ spend the time to learn. Keep learning as you go- within any genre/category- & before you know it...."you'll be walking out the doooor!" One foot in front of the other, right? =)
Great stuff as usual professor. I was wondering if you set your own prices from your own experience, or do you search what the items are currently selling at? Particularly items that there may not be many of like old 78s and the like.
Thank you! Please also talk about how the new ebay business model is ripping off small sellers. I rely on my sales to pay my bills. Last week I sold a collection of comics and got only $5 from my sale because eBay took the rest of it for “insertion fees”. Now I am making my shop smaller.
Putting insertion fees in quotations doesn’t make them a ripoff. They are a cost of doing business on that platform. They are not hidden and have been around a long time. Did you consider making your shop larger? Each store level comes with more free listings.
I always find these kinds of comments puzzling. If you had to do all the marketing and payment handling that eBay does for sellers you would be in the red. Insertion fees have been around as long as I’ve been on eBay about twenty years. eBay is very reasonable considering the millions of people they reach for “us”
How do U learn all the stuff U gotta know tho its seems overwhelming to even know what's worth picking up n how much it gos for etc. Is there a book u can use ?

What is an insertion fee?

I should have mentioned that I would like to see how you package the records. Oops.
