Maybe in Japan Korea and China companies that send employees away for long business trips that might be for months and even years it's ok to assume guilty until proven innocent without any formal investigation into the employee in question. In America that isn't how we do things. Internal Affairs or HR gets involved questions employees to learn about what we might know. The boss isn't assumed guilty. Another employee who is a subordinate isn't assumed guilty. The reason in America companies do a thorough investigation is to avoid wrongful termination, and being held liable for firing or punishing an employee unjustly and is sued in the process.
