Yeah me and my family used to hate Scrappy Doo but I'm really loving his new character traits: making men uncomfortable in the work place due to potential sexual aggression/territory marking, then eating men's genitals off killing them, invincible, terrorizing military bases, and killing Mindy's self-insert.
I didn't think it was possible to make him awesome, but _now_ he's more bad-ass then ANY monster from the classic hack and slash movies of our past. Maybe he can even become a hero of the LGBT movement the same way other monsters have, _but for his love of the male sausage_ LOL
edit: oh, but I did like his new character trait introduced in the movie where he's pretty much always just marking Daphne as his territory. Like, _THAT's_ his personality trait. I think they're finally doing him justice and giving him an outlet for all his annoying little short-man syndrome rage.

I like Scrappy, despite the hate he got over the years. But I think the Scooby Doo creators could give him a chance to redeem his character. Maybe the original Scooby Gang can bump into him with Deputy Dusty and Yabba-Doo at Tumbleweed County. There, they can solve a mystery together and they help each other out.
One thing that's interesting was that they replaced Fred, Velma and Daphne for Scrappy, right? And they took pieces of their character and put it into Scrappy, correct? Well, why not put an emotional moment how Scrappy also looked up to Fred, Velma and Daphne and how ever since he came to Tumbleweed County and had to use Fred's leadership qualities, Velma's smarts and Daphne's Whatever to help Dusty and Yabba and how it made him a better person, friend and partner.
And after they reveal the culprit, the Scooby gang asked him if he wants to join them. But Scrappy decides to stay Dusty and Yabba-Doo because they need him in Tumbleweed County and he's happy there. It will be just great to give him a chance to redeem his character.

Daphne's resourcefulness...that woman must have asked her Uncle Alfie about meeting up with Flamebird who started her career out as the original Batgirl, and as a thanks for designing a new outfit...Daphne got Bette's purse which has "Schröedinger's Bat" in it just handing her plot device and "all access pass to fill in for Oracle when needed."
Scrappy could especially be known to look up to Daphne since of the more serious three, she's been around him the longest.

Haters shouldn't win. Bring Scrappy back. A talented writer should be able to modernize him & balance him out. We don't have the kind of executive meddling we had back then... The kind that absolutely ruined Janine from Real Ghost Busters.

    • @teddyj9482
      @teddyj9482 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

It seems to me that a large percentage of the haters are in the scooby doo staff, so if we want to restore Scappy’s reputation there needs to be a shake up in that area. As for executive meddling, it’s just as bad (if not worse) as it has ever been. If I remember correctly, the WB executive in charge of Scooby-doo (at least during most of the 2010s if not current) has a very “no real monsters in Scooby-doo” kind of mentality and it shows in a lot of the animated films that has been made recently: All fake monsters with a little ambiguity here and there for the fans wanting more supernatural stuff. This includes return to Zombie Island (which was promised to be made for the fans who wanted a return to those types of 90s animated films) and Curse of the 13th Ghost (claimed to be made for the fans who wanted a conclusion for the 13 ghosts).

Yeah the hate for the guy is proably over top.
The character could use a revamp.Where a rebooted version is more brave then scooby but also has to learn the lesson.Because there still too young them throwing themselves into a fight puts the others at risk.which hope fully lets them chill and think with there head not there fists.
I mean while in turn also giving scooby more incentive to be brave around scappy for his sake and keep him from feeling he has to step up.

I never understood why Cartoon Network went out of there way to ruin Scrappy Doo. In the commercials were he meet other Cartoon characters he was the butt of so many jokes, the hate, and looked down on as less then nothing. Then that live action movie made him a bad guy with short-dog syndrome.
I for one liked Scrappy he played nicely off Scooby Doo's always scared nature with is brave one. His age worked great for this too. As a kid his love for his uncle was great. Also Scrappy looked up to his uncle as his hero, and to him Scooby could do no wrong, or get scared of anything it was sweet. He was like any kid that way when meeting their hero they well not see their heroes faults.
I for one think it is long past time to give Scrappy some slack, and give him a new start. If the owner of Scooby Doo can give us another season of Velma that ruins Velma to fans, and we have yet to see our boy Scooby then they can give Scrappy a shoot. But then again I rather they do not if it;s the ones who do Velma.
Also I think we can all agree thanks to Velma Scrappy looks better by miles.

After the ending of Velma, Scrappy deserves another honest-to-god outing. No, not another mockery using tired jokes from the 2002 live-action movie, something more akin to when he originally came on the show in 1979 and saved the show!

I think the reason scrappy was so disliked was with his arrival not only did he slowly take up more of the spot light with his antics but 3 out of 5 of the most important loved characters in the entire fandom, Daphne, velma and fred were slowly pushed to the side.
The fans were most likely outraged at this and blamed it on scrappy’s arrival.
Scrappy was and is an underrated character. If he was introduced better, i doubt he would of gotten as much hate as he did.

Henry Hawk and Scrappy Doo were freaking awesome.
4:20 Sounds like the network killed his character by trying to make the feisty kid docile and cowardly. Typical.

The movie and Cartoon Network commercials ruined Scrappy!!! He was annoying sometimes but he was better than Velma nowadays! He was almost forgotten in the 13 ghosts movie!!! He was not perfect and had flaws but that doesn’t mean he deserved the hate!!!

I always like Scrappy Doo and saw not only all the old show with him but all the old animated movies with him too. When I first saw the live action Scooby Doo film and found out Scrappy was the main villain I was furious. I walk out of the theater feeling betray cause that's like if you made a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action film and all of a sudden Raphael or Splinter became the main villain. It makes no sense.

I think the issue with Scrappy is that he's a wrong fix to the stale genre. Watching Billiam, it's clear that after Scrappy became a hit, he immediately became overused to the point of ire. Ironically enough, whenever Scrappy was unlikable, so were Scooby and Shaggy.
Make no mistake, Poochy satirized Scrappy, but in hindsight, he also satirized the network's reactions to such. Getting rid of Scrappy or taking potshots at him doesn't improve anything. It felt like the most desperate attempt to get on with the fans.
If anything, the only reason why the potshots work is because people hated Scrappy. Replace that with Scooby and you can tell that the joke doesn't work very far.
I swear, show the anti-Scrappy jokes to a random guy and they won't get the punchline.

I think it was the studio that fanned the flames of this beloved character. I’m also glad people that love the show or acknowledge the hate also don’t think the hate is warranted. I understand people hate changing the formula but this felt more like a ploy for viewers to think they should hate this character. Plus let’s address the elephant in the room. They are willing to constantly hate on this pup as cannon. But it’s not cannon that the gang has met these (Real) monsters more then once. Both in movies, shows, and specials? Why is the live action movie cannon but every other monster encounter irrelevant?

As a Kid I liked him.
I still like him as adult and still don't understand the hate, well I do, but its hard to explain what I mean so I won't try. In my case, I just separate his seasons and series from the older stuff and go "this is product A and that is Product B" and take things as they are. By separating the two things, I don't see the issues as bad as they are. Sure, the change happened but change happens. You either adapt things or you just have to switch off.
I've seen the same thing happen, like in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom. Silver is the Scrappy Doo of that fandom. Most of the hate, however, is linked to Sonic 2006 for the most part. I happened to Aang and Korra in Avatar.
The problem is a lot of the fans enjoy a show, the dedicated fans stick around to the end. Over time a show gets refined and a new character can revive a series because this 9/10 of the time results in stagnation. The character results in a overhaul to the show. This brings in new fans, who like the new format and have no love of older ones. However, its the love by older fans of the original format that are the problem. They start preaching, their set of fans back them up, the pressure gets to newer fans and slowly over time they get on board with the hate. But the end, everyone who loves the new character, is too afraid to speak up and they either eventually join in with the hate or are silenced.
There is a clause for concern for stuff getting old. One example I think of is Rick and Morty, theres undying love for the older seasons, but the newer ones are starting to get rusty. And some fans are not on board that were there at the start. In an extreme, this is leading to no commitment to continue a series, to avoid seasonal rot. So a lot of shows now run 1-5 seasons on purpose. Its not worth continuing a shows licensing as it gets more expensive over time, and instead just make a new one. A new character can be just want a show needs, but its hard to pull off.
I've had many a bad experience with fans and honestly... Fans are both the best and worst part of every fandom. They can be encouraging and a blessing, but they can be evil and nasty. They are the art lovers and critics of all media. The best thing to do at times is to do work and not acknowledge them.

I grew up during the Scrappy introduction, seeing the pre-Scrappy shows in syndicated reruns. I never hated Scrappy or blamed his character for the mysteries going away. Season one of Scooby & Scrappy was a continuation of The Scooby-Doo Show, my favorite take on the series, and it's not his fault season two lost the mysteries. Daphne returned the next year but the show still was more comedy based and dragged Daphne and Scrappy along, while 13 Ghosts almost seemed to be afraid of being scary and did things like breaking the fourth wall, weird comedy stories, and bring in the really annoying character of the classic years, Flim Flam! Him I didn't like and still don't.
I also liked the toned down Scrappy. He was still feisty without being stupid or a kid. They were going to try to spin him off in the final episode of Scooby & Scrappy season one by visiting his old neighborhood where two dumb crooks kidnap Scooby and Shaggy, with Scrappy and his two friends trying to rescue them (and ending up ruining Scoob and Shag's actual escape attempts) in a backdoor pilot for Scrappy staying in his neighborhood and having his own adventures. Might be a different take if they had succeeded.

Always thought Scrappy was a cute character. I'd only seen him in a couple of episodes where it was just him Shaggy and Scooby and I have 2 of the 3 movies, Ghoul School and Reluctant Werewolf on DVD, but really enjoyed his feisty personality when I was a kid. I thought it was odd that he was the villain in the first movie but didn't think much of it and I remember the cameo in Mystery Inc and was like "Wait why".
Also, interesting that he's associated with the change in formula from costumed criminals to actual monsters and some had issue with that direction, and yet we have movies like Zombie Island that were well received, guess just a different audience back then.

i feel like most people didnt actually watch the scrappy shows, they just follow the trends.
scrappy was indeed awful in the first series, but he became quite ok by the next ones. in 13 ghosts and the movies he was actually a good character.
he is treated like a plague now when he ended his run on good feet.
people need to actually watch the series and stop giving him hate.
retire the character in a dignified manner, ffs.

Once I did buy into the Scrappy Hate, but nowadays I find that it's so overblown and the repeated joke of Scrappy being a bad charachter got old real quick in my opinion. Adding a new charachter to the gang was never a bad idea, the problem was ultimately how the creators handled it. And that was like three decades ago now so I think new writers are safe to do something new with him. And his orignal charachter left alot of room for potential that should absolutely be explored more now.

Well I know it's late but I won't count the Velma series, that... thing coming from... I even don't know... but I'm french and I remembered seeing Scrappy-Doo series, I especially liked "The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show" not especially because of Scrappy-Doo but seeing Shaggy and Daphne, well it was a duo we didn't see a lot, in general when the group is seperated, it's Fred/Daphne (Sometimes Velma) and Sometimes Velma/Shaggy/Scooby.
And tbh at the very beginning of "Scooby-Doo! Mystery, Inc." I didn't understand the joke with Scrappy Doo, now with Internet, got it ofc but yes as a French, we never saw all these privates jokes about Scrappy Doo, I don't say he was a great character but as far as I remember, I never felt hatred for him and never understand why he's so hated...
