I think what I really like about your videos, (and one of the big reasons I watch your videos) is that you didn't do this lifestyle because it was a fad. You genuinely WANTED to live this lifestyle. You don't edit your videos with pretty filters or inspirational music to deceive your audience into thinking this lifestyle is all sunshine and roses and pretty views. You're literally just living your every day life and filming while you do it, instead of just filming the fun and exciting parts. You're real and not putting on a show, and I think that's what we all like so much!
Wow thank you! I do really love this lifestyle and I really want to show people that you don't need a big van or fancy equipment to make it work 😊 I appreciate you being here!
Wanting to do it is crucial yes. Whenever I see negative articles by people who like rented a van or something for a week or so and they make the claim this lifestyle isn't all its cracked up to be and the people who do it are actually miserable, the writer of course didn't actually WANT to have this lifestyle, they are just doing it for a writing piece. Or yeah if people did it for a time because it was a fad during the pandemic and they didn't like it it's not because it's a terrible lifestyle but because they didn't actually want to do it, they just wanted to try it out. Any lifestyle works as long as its the lifestyle you actually want.
💜hi, Wow you're cool. I have a lot of questions but I missed your q&a . I get you with your choices and stuff. It's your life, right !?! I'm getting this feeling you'll have a lot of awesome, or maybe not so awesome stories to tell. Hey, as I just typed that, maybe take lots of notes/journal , and write a book(s) about all of your experiences later. Or now lol!!! And I love audiobooks, I'm hooked. I haven't watched TV in probably 10, yrs. I'm of course a TH-camr , and just saw you there and watched your video and subscribed😁! Otherwise I wouldn't know you existed until now . Before I go, do you send reminders out for your q&A's, or if I asked how you're doing here is that ok, maybe get a response when you are on line Just askin'. Later on, 💜✌️💜
Make the leap!! Or do what Rosa suggests...maybe just take an extended road trip to try it out. I go for a month in fall to the desert mostly sleeping in my car. Its grueling but I'm always happy I've done it. Good luck. Life is for LIVING😊💗🙏
22:24 When I heard her explanation and knowing she spent 6 years in that vehicle, I knew she had hit "MONK" level discipline. When you go minimalist for that long, you find a peace that no one else can understand nor ever experience. I am not there yet as I have the apartment on wheels she is talking about. LOL. But seriously much respect.
@@Azuria969 lmao, 😂 would love to see you live in such a extremely tiny space like that for just one month let alone six years. Oh and yes w/ your laptop and cell phone.😏
I can't express how much I respect someone who can talk for a long stretch and still be coherent and concise. I get so tired of enduring filler words, useless repetition, and tangents just to learn a few valuable things.
Dear Rosa, I just found your channel a couple days ago and I absolutely admire the genuine and authentic person that you are! I’m 70 years old, was full time nomad for 3 years (from 65 to 68 and would still be if I hadn’t met the love of my life!) and I totally appreciate your video the way they are! You are one of the rare vanlifer that has this authentic approach and this is exactly what I like!
Even some rich people with big homes are lonely. It's nice that you can find wholesomeness in solitude. As long as you're happy, you can continue doing what you want. Enjoyed watching this one. Hi, Elrond! :)
“People just talking and getting to know each other” wow what a concept, at 65 years old, I remember those days; we would get high smoking great hash, listening to the best records, classics and alternative rock. “ Those were the days, my friends, we thought they’d never end’
I've watched sooo so many van and car conversion videos and followed so many creators, that I've sort of gotten desensitized by the idea of van/car living. But after watching your conversion on a different channel, I was definitely pulled in by your personality and insights to this lifestyle. It's never gonna be an option for me with all my responsibilities, but you've sparked a tiny flame of curiosity in me for this lifestyle again.
I’m subscribing to your channel. I just love how authentic and natural you are! No flashy editing with music showing only the best, just your experience as it is. You’re easy to watch and listen to!
Please don't take this the wrong way, but.....your living space being sooooo small just stokes my decision to spend the rest of my life - and I do mean the rest of my life - basically off-grid. I will be haunting [ mainly ] South Korea's coastline. I will use an E-bike with a trailer attached to it. My living area will be/ is a Tepee-style hot tent. Now throw-in a : cot, table and chair, toilet/ shower tent, solar panels and charger units. So living as you do for six years!!!!! You are a very impressive person. I certainly think you are fantastic.
I loved you on both channels. I understood that you are not a person for constant cold and snow. If you’ve been by yourself for so long, it’s difficult to travel with someone else. I enjoy your channel happy sixth year
Congratulations on 6 years. The end of April marks eight years for me. Turning 75 this month, and I'm just going to keep doing this. Not much on my TH-cam channel called Grand Caravan Life, still buying more ties and tools, I'll get to it one of these days!
Nothing wrong with being solo. It doesn’t mean being lonely like some people think. Being solo is a positive. When I’m with people too much, I need time alone to recover. Traveling with someone can be tough. My wife and I can be riding together and not need to speak for hours. Love your vids and your ink!
@@wisdomhasbuiltherhouse990 The loneliest person in the world was the astronaut in the lunar orbiter as it went around the far side of the moon while the other astronauts were on the surface. He was completely alone and was the farthest any human has ever been from earth. He even lost all communications for a good amount of time on the far side due to radio blackout.
I’m interested in visiting the PNW in this way. I grew up in and have lived my entire life in the desert and high plain regions. I long to see the woods. I need to see mountains, MOUNTAINS, Gandalf…. This was a super informative video for someone who is looking for where to start, so thank you!
I found your channel today and this is the 3rd video I've watched. There is an authenticity here that just isn't fakeable. Im proud of you for living your life on your terms. Not all of us have the courage, or in my case, the physical ability to pursue this particular flavor of dream. So its heartening to see it happen for someone. Particularly someone with such a grounded personality. Your content makes me homesick. May the whole abundance of the universe cradle you and Elrond (bonus points for naming your car something awesome) and keep you safe. Blessed be.
I am an older guy. I watch your videos because I am in awe and am impressed with you doing YOU and Not what others want you to do. Never stop being YOU, WHO YOU ARE IS WHO YOU ARE. I have worked in the automotive industry many years. With that said, I have repaired and managed repairs on Honda, up to Range Rover, Porsche, etc. YOUR Honda Element is one of the best vehicles on the road. Keep it. I have an earlier 1999 Honda CRV, (it can be flat towed, new ones cant). I used to work for a Honda dealer. MY Honda has 200,000 miles on it, (Just broke in). I sold my last CRV with 350,000 miles on it several years ago, I still see it on the road. At the Repair shop I manage we see them come in with over 500,000 miles on them. You take care of it and it will outlast new cars. FYI. We repair many Hybrid cars. Keep your money. Expensive to maintain and do not last the miles your Element gets. FYI a Prius Hybrid Battery, if it goes bad, new is $4000.00 +. Just so you know. Hybrids are getting better, but if you are on the road and boondocking there are very few shops that can work on them and they cost... I am older as I said. I reside in my Motor Home. I unloaded everything and bought the Motor Home cash, no bills for me now. You are an inspiration to those of us on the road; for that matter, everyone. Even us OLD people. PS: Washington is awesome; I lived there near the rain forest and Ocean Shores. Love it there. Go back up often. Very beautiful country.
I drive Prius and it has a warranty on the battery to 150k miles. I live in it and the climate control for me is invaluable. If I have to pay 4k every 150k miles to get 53 miles to the gallon and climate control, I’m totally cool with that
@@theaustralianhulk oh is it's covered under warranty that's great 😅🙏🏻 many years back i looked into buying a Prius, would have been cash. I looked into battery cost if I needed to replace it one day... For a 2007 Prius i found one for about $6k & that did NOT include labor-install 😭 it's what sealed my decision to not get a Prius.
Rosa, you have wisdom beyond your years. Such an articulate, well informed person, regarding the nomadic lifestyle is (for me) hard to find on YT. As a Honda Pilot (x2) owner I admire your commitment to Elrond. Lift & bigger tires, yes! Your "filming" & editing are getting better and better with each one, IMHO. I haven't watched your old channel, so can't comment on that. But when it comes to having control over how you're represented online, I totally understand your perspective. I think anyone would feel the same. The desire to have peaceful time ALONE is central to my reason for being a nomad - plus, cost of living the normal existence in the city is unobtainable anyway, especially as a 66 y.o. As a side note, your family being supportive of your decision, tells me you had/have a healthy relationship with some awesome parents. Never forget those that stand by you Keep on truckin' (& cooking!).
Till the wheels fall off 🤟 can't ever give up Elrond ❤️ And thank you! I'm doing my best but I'm definitely not the best editor lol and I'll never forget or take for granted my family's love and support ❤️ I couldn't do this without them
I love your channel and I’m 60 years old. I love that you’re so real and down to earth, and not pretentious. I find that you are very mature in your thoughts about life. 🥰
57 here. I love van life videos. I figure I may as well support them by subscribing and watching since most are using TH-cam as their main income. If I may add a suggestion. I know this is a q and a, but I like when people use some mellow cool music for segues in their videos. It makes your videos even more relaxing than they already are. Love your channel
As someone I’ll never meet, or being someone you’ll never meet, it was fun hanging with you for the past 31 minutes. Thank You for sharing your stories on how and why you are you. I’m glad your getting to live the life that makes you happy. Way to many people never get to enjoy that. Wishing you all the best in your continued adventures. 👍🏻🍻😎
What an inspiring young girl! About to embark on a similar life on a bicycle but doing it after a longer life spent working! Always impressed by someone living life on their own terms and finding one's bliss instead of living a life that is dictated by norms and what others expect from you. Congratulations!
Just found your channel and this was absolutely fascinating. I live in a city, have a gardening company, rarely feel alone when alone, and have recently been toying with the idea of extended road trips sleeping mostly out of my little van. Very inspiring. Teared up a bit when you started talking about your supportive family. Be well!
Am pretty sure I will never adopt this lifestyle, but I just admire how you are thriving in it. A big plus is that I've always wanted to own an Element. Keep the vids coming -- am a solid fan!
I really love that you mentioned Death Valley as your example of doing seasonal work in a National Park. My first visit to Death Valley was over the winter of 1982-83, and the 40 years since that first time, I've spent about 160 days total there, on at least 12 different trips. It's my favorite winter season National Park. I'm going back this December, and just praying that they don't get hit with another bad late summer monsoon that washes out half the road system again. Last year when we went, we couldn't get to the Racetrack, Titus Canyon, or anywhere along Harry Wade Road or West Side Road because of all the road damage from an August 2022 series of flash floods that smashed up a bunch of different places in the Park. I'm happy that you are getting to do this while you are still young and flexible enough to accept the limitations of living full time in that Element. Thanks for posting this!
What you said about not having cell service and making better friends while traveling is right on point. So nice. I miss it more than anything. I was on the road for 3 years. I needed to have a steady job for a while and found something else I really enjoy. Raising animals is very rewarding as well.
At nearly 70, I love adventurous you tube channels and you are a remarkable young lady. I was first led to the -33 degree today, then this get to know you cast. You are an inspiration to anyone who desires to know true freedom. I am very proud of you and especially your family that has been so supportive. For those who question the safety of what you do, if you allow fear to control your life, you will never know the true meaning of living. The best to you always, "follow your dream".
Adventure, driving around Mother Earth and in a Element no less? Lovely! I’ve had my Element 20 years and still going strong! I call it my Adventure Box. And always be aware that when you’re in you car your always in your own Element. Kind Thanks and Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Thanks for doing this! You are so relatable. This channel is about to blow. 111K views and only 16K subs. A lot of people are interested in this channel now. Glad to learn more about you. Subscribed!
Glad that you are self aware of your solitude. I am 63 and feel the same way as I love driving and staying in my camper alone. If my guy wants to come along we end up fighting because he doesn’t get the camping thing.
I love your answer about having kid, be frank and straight forward. Nothing wrong with someone not wanting to have kid, there are so many things wrong with those who keep popping out kids but not taking well care of them. Have a safe trip no matter where you go 🌹🌹🌹
After reading some of the other commenters, it looks like you have a small cadre of fans in their 60s (yeah, I'm one of them). I enjoy the channel because it's authentic, positive, and also realistic - as opposed to those over the top, Instagram-y #vanlife presentations. I'm thinking of being a part-time nomad once I retire, and your channel makes me feel good about that idea in a down-to-earth way. Bravo!
Thank you! I definitely think it's nice to get to share a more affordable way of living in a vehicle. I hope you get to go out and explore and see all the beautiful places ❤️
Excellent Q&A. I discovered your channel recently. I thought you were only doing it for a few months. 6 years is astonishing. You look very well for it too. I think the outdoor life agrees with you. Super channel. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate that you stand by not wanting children, but are respectful, self-aware, and understanding about it. The worst extremes for not wanting kids seem to be people hating all kids, or taking frustration out on the kids they end up having. You seem like neither of these options. As a mom, I totally agree that it’s a hard lifestyle to have. It’s a huge commitment that I wish more people seriously considered before starting a family. As you said with van life, family life is romanticized. I love my family life, but it’s not for everyone, and that’s okay!
Any reason to not have kids is valid. Hating kids is valid. Not wanting responsibility is valid. Not wanting to add another person to the planet is valid, too. Please don’t police reasons why people choose to not have kids.
just came across your videos recently and I must say they're very refreshing I'm 66 and have been living in my van (Vandalf) lol for two years now. You're very honest relaying a message I don't think many people realize if you don't like yourself this life isn't for you because you have to spend a lot of time alone not lonely , just alone lol Great stuff !
Hello :)- I live in Las Vegas Nevada for over 12 years now and I don't have any friends so I am used to being alone on a regular basis and I believe that I could totally do #vanlife alone. I appreciate your honest take on what it is really like to live in a vehicle alone. Kudos to YOU!!
Congrats on 6 years of nomad life, it's a way of life that comes in varying measures, and lots of your experiences jive with my own views about this way of being. By choice, I've lived in a RV since 2014; I saved lots of money (no rent to pay) paid off debt and haven't looked back since.
Where do you park your Rv? Campsites? They seem so expensive right now it’s hard to believe people are even saving money anymore. This is interesting to me for sure
Good job. Congrats on your 6th year mark. You are a wise, smart, creative woman who sets a good example for her peers. Keep it up. Glad to see you are happy and dealing with the cards you have been dealt. Go girl.
So cool you’ve lived a nomadic lifestyle for so long! This Q&A helped a ton and I’m super glad I found your channel. I’ve been wanting to let everything go and live in my car, but feared not knowing where to sleep at night. I do have a dog and cat that would need to go with me, but I’ll figure it out. Here’s to more adventures on the road 🚙✨
For me, a dog as a co-pilot is a must! a good buddy/guard dog. I, personally, would be super nervous traveling with a cat. I have 4 purr babies and understand their basic nature/needs. Generally speaking: They have a mind of their own. They can spook easy, run for the hills/hide and don't come back when u call them. A loud truck stop (airbrakes) haunts my mind? Also, a cat won't protect you from bears or strangers. They don't like a leash, hiking or swimming~~They do like the outdoors, but on their own terms. Trying to contain a cat in a very small space, will be super challenging and way too much of a risk IMO. Just food for thought. Chip ur cat for sure but seriously, try to find kitty a good stationary home. Typically, they are very territorial and don't easily adapt to change. Do lots of research and maybe do a few test launches b4 you commit?? It is hectic/competitive out there. Break-ins and breakdowns are common and costly and can leave u stuck. Have you seen the movie Nomadland? Great story but, IMO, It's a very gentle version of what van life really is~ www.imdb.com/title/tt9770150/ Good luck. Be safe (no cats!) Learn basic auto repair too. xo Sorry, I never write this much, ever. Sorry for my negativity. I just had strong feelings about this and had to warn you. Peace out~~
@@tmcbgrrl0074 the cool thing is, there are successful ladies who live with their cats in their vans! My Simple Living Journey lives with 2 (edited) cats in her van, and now a 13’ Scamp. And they look relaxed and play with cat toys. That life VS giving up my cat whom I have raised since she was a kitten would be best. It takes knowing your cats and how to build a van (with safe area for them to be in) while giving them lots of attention and love, and traveling to locations that are cool enough to let them stay indoors (also outside on netted playpens), seems very doable. It is what other vanlifers on TH-cam has done too. All about adjustment and meeting the pet’s needs. And if truly unable to adjust to that lifestyle, I’d find a studio apartment for us. There is no way I’m giving up my fur babies.
Happy 6 years! I'm moving into my car next week :D Your insights and content have been super valuable as I prepare. Thank you for sharing! Maybe I'll see ya on the road :)
This is the first Rosa video that ever crossed my path. I can hardly believe it was only five months ago! It feels like I have known you, and watched your videos, for years! Despite no hikes, cooking, hot springs, chopping wood or fire towers, this is one of your best, imho. Thank-you for all the wisdom and knowledge that comes from years of experience. And never mind about that other TH-cam channel (random clips popped up months after I subscribed to you). Personally, I would have left buddy in his igloo, without a word, even if I had to walk down the road. I'd be, like, "Buh-bye," waving and skipping the whole way 🙂
Rosa...thank you for being so honest with your questions and answers session. I guess i'm lucky in a way, i have my house and also my camper van that is most part finished. i have not hardly used it but i have just recently found your channel and you have given me the kick up the arse to get out there. I have used it when i have felt down or pissed off and then just go.....so liberating and lovely to wake up listening to the ocean. You mentioned the cello, my favourite instrument ever, i play the guitar but the cello is the most haunting and emotional instrument there is....followed by the violin. So pleased i came across your channel.....given me some of my confidence back, thank you. One of my favourite cello tracks is Adagio for strings, so beautiful. there are other instuments within this track but the cello and violin get me. I wish you all the best. David.
I haven't been happy for soo many years, I'm 26, no gf no wife no kids, nothing holding me back, still live with my parents, moving out and living in my car and going traveling, working seasonal for national parks sounds soo appealing
Thanks, Rosa... you confirmed some things for me. I'm selfish, too. Don't want to be with anyone. Almost there... got some renters for my house and I'm going to start out in Colorado sometime in the near future. Thanks for not taking the van... defeats the whole purpose of living more by having less, and in the process, appreciating life so much more. Happy trails!
You said a lot of things that I can totally empathize with.. I’ve been through 48 states camping, including Alaska and the Yukon.. You are a veteran at this for sure.. Safe travels sister !!
💯🤙 Aloha, hey thanks, been watching suv life from you and others for a while. I myself started SUV life last year in Southwest while kayaking and rafting Taos, Moab and the Grand Canyon of the Colorado river. This year I’m going all in. Mahalo. 🤙💯
I just stumbled onto this video in my feed and am very impressed with your intelligence and eloquent way of expressing yourself. I'm 63 and lived out of my car for about a year, but realized it wasn't for me. I still like watching nomad videos, but don't subscribe to very many anymore. However, I just subscribed to yours because I like supporting other smart, creative women. I look forward to checking out your other videos. All the best to you!
Hi Rosa thank you for being so open!!!! You dealed with a load of issues in life and I'm ya a stranger and only came across you now, but I love your channel and inspired about your off the grid lifestyle! My plan B is off grid, I don't drive, but looking into a sustainable and independent homestead. By the way, you will have that home one day and that coffee on the porch!!!! Forget about that other channel! You are amazing! Please be safe and for security, have a friend to check in on at certain time so they know where you are!!!!! Please be safe!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t you ever change a damn thing! You are being you! And YOU are the only YOU in this world! That’s what makes it special 🥰 I’m getting ready to do exactly what you are (No channel) but I appreciate your honesty and real-ness! Kudos to you! Keep on keeping on gurl! You got this! 🥂
I think it's really cool that you realized early on that this is what you wanted, and that you went for it. I wish I would have realized for myself that I was trying so hard to fit in, that I never really lived a life that I wanted. I now know that I'm happy being by myself. I raised 2 beautiful daughters, and I don't regret it. I'm preparing to begin a whole new chapter of my life this spring! Take care, and safe travels!
Hey Rosa, I've commented on one of your videos in the past, however past that, my comment history on other channels is very limited. I just wanted to let you known, you are a huge inspiration to me, this year was my 10 year class reunion too, so we are around the same age. At the start of last year I decided to completely change my career path and pursue a career that actually made me happy, this was a huge step for me because the unknown risks that was involved with this decision was very scary for me. Your channel and videos has helped me realize that pursuing what I love was worth the unforeseen risks that my anxiety kept bringing up. Thank you so much for being you and giving me an outlet that I didn't know I needed. I start radiology technologist school in a couple weeks, I'm so happy to know I'll have your videos to go to when I'm needing that pick-me-up or down time! I really enjoy watching your videos, far more than you could ever realize thank you for giving me that outlet to relax at the end of a stressful school day!
Wow, thank you. I'm so happy you decided to step outside your comfort zone and go after what you really want! Radiology technologist school sounds very difficult, but I hope it goes well for you ❤️
Wow, so insightful. I have been considering making my vehicle a livable one and I found your video extremely insightful, especially about South Dakota. I had no idea! Thank you! I learned a lot. Safe travels!✨🌝
Thank your for sharing! This was a beautiful and wonder experience question! Congrats on 6yrs! I’ve been living in my car for almost a year and can’t wait to save up to travel! Yes I agree about living in the car! I feel that those apartments or houses are way to big but you never know for for future! Everyone has there different lifestyle! Your channel is amazing keep up and your have a lot postive in you!! Thank you again!!
The biggest fear I have is safety! I don't know how you do it! World is scary and not getting any better!! I'm 52 male, and obviously, less likely to be attacked or such, but still. It's something that worries me thinking about a full time/semi full time van life. I'd feel like i could only be safe in RV parks and such. Stay well and god bless. If i was young again, I'd do life different. You are actually living the real American Dream! Enjoy it!
The world is safer now than it was at most times in the past. Most people are genuinely good. The rest you have even more in common with - they want your stuff. Luckily for humanity, there are very few axe murderers among us.
@@oldageisdumb lol nope. I’m female. I also drove a tractor trailer at one point around the country back in the late 90s. Unarmed. I was the only girl in the class. The guys were all nice. Everywhere I went I felt like most of the truckers treated me like their mother or their sister. The powers want you scared. And they got you right where they want you. When you’re scared, you’ll let the authorities do absolutely anything in the name of safety. And if you thought complete strangers were scary- if history is any guide, I’d suggest keeping one eye on the government before the rando walking down the street minding his own business.
@@oldageisdumb one of what? You don’t even know me. I was also a history major and am now an accountant. Go hide in your house then, not that that will make you any safer. As for me, I’m going to go enjoy my life, outside in the world. As my daddy used to say, you ain’t getting out of this alive. lol he was in Vietnam, and understood a thing or two. You sound like some scared little gen Z kid. Someday you’ll understand. Or not. Won’t change reality whether you do or don’t.
For anyone currently living this lifestyle; what do you do if you get sick, or have a medical issue? Especially one where you may not be expecting something to happen? (Think loss of consciousness, or needing to be hospitalized.) What happens to the vehicle? I’ve always been enthralled by the lure of this lifestyle, but I see so many potentially disastrous situations. I think that’s what keeps me from trying it. I think I would do it-but only if I somehow was also able to maintain an apartment, or effectively a “home base” somewhere. Is that something other van-lifers do?
Maybe they can park in hospital parking if unexpected illness that doesn't involve loss of consciousness. Most people don't have plans for what they would do if they become ill even if they are not a van lifer. The thing I wonder about when I watch these channels is about the wildlife. I rarely see wildlife. Birds and one video had deer, but what about bears, or gators etc.
You do whatever you can. Sometimes you do without. But most people live like that whether its on the road or at the house. I am 40, eaten up with cancer and every other health problem there is and honestly don't really care. When I drop I drop. No kids, no spouse, no family, no friends, no big loss 🤷🏻♀️
I have a friend who lives in a big city and is far lonelier than I am, who moved away from that city a decade ago. Many of my friends are also concerned by my decision to isolate and stay alone a large portion of the time. The decision to go solo is just not something anyone can do... it definitely takes a special blend of strength, willpower, and stubbornness. Thanks for the insight into your world, always appreciate the videos.
@@lifeinmyelement I’m taking this reply for myself. While I love being with people, I’m currently learning to enjoy being alone. Not easy to do at 60. You and your videos are very encouraging. ❤️❤️❤️
The ONLY piece of advice I ever received as a child was 'its okay to be alone and enjoy your own company' and I took that and ran with it!!🤣 The only reason Ive ever entertained a partner is for practical reasons, (housing/financial when I was very young and i'm scared of being alone if I get old or sick), but otherwise I'm happy not compromising for someone else.
Most people live a whole life and never experience that feeling you have found. So you have accomplished a huge step in finding what works for You! When you started talking about loneliness: I have that same feeling. I have never said it out loud, but when you explained: 🎯 I hope you eventually can maybe share living expenses with someone and be still for a few months and take a rest from driving. Then you’ll be recharged and ready to continue on this adventure. God loves you!❤
Yup, I feel the same way. I don't get lonely AT ALL and prefer being alone. There's this expectation that humans are social communal creatures but technology is allowing greater choice towards independence
Power and wealth can be ugly and scary staying humble and in tune with nature is the most beautiful centering thing especially cause I get to see all my friends when I look into the earth❤️❤️

Happy 6 years! I’m also from Philly moved out to farm land… now finally in CA! But I’m inspired to live in my car after my next job here and came across your video in my exploration. I admire what you’re doing and it’s so cool that your family was supportive.
This is my first visit to your channel, but you're an inspiration! Obviously you love being a free-spirit and I can respect that. May you continue to have many happy and safe travels with Elrond, and may your transition to a permanent location come easily and naturally when you are ready. One final thought, or bit of advice from someone who knows: Don't get emotionally attached to Elrond. In the final summation, it's only a mechanical device. If you let emotions dictate what you put into it to keep it on the road, eventually it will eat your lunch and demand another serving too.
What a nice video! Congratulations on your 6th anniversary!🎉 I understand that you love Elrod, after all he always brings you safely to the place where you want to be! On to the next 6 years or as you said: at least 5 years! ❤ Greetings from the Netherlands!
Such good info! Thanks for sharing. My son is thinking of getting into van life and your videos are very helpful. I really liked your advice about doing a test run. I have been advising the same and want to support him any way I can. Good luck to you in your journeys. 👍👍👍
I've been living like you for over 20 years now and totally love it. I will never give it up. You got good instincts for the life. Making new fire rings and having campfires is a must. It's not camping without a campfire. I almost always have a campfire seen out my window every dark morning.
Happy 6 years, Rosa!! 🎉 Don't get fooled by the marketing hype, a Samsung S21 is a pretty good phone and probably has as good if not better camera as an iPhone of the same era, iPhone's tend to wash out and yellow the picture, it gives a happy vibe which is why many people prefer / think the photo's are better, but it comes at a cost of loosing detail (particularly in the background) and if you are already using colour correction you might be better off staying with what you have. If you do get bored of the North America down the track, consider boat life, it has many similar challenges as van/car life (small living space, etc) but gives you more places you can roam, I'm not talking about the $100K++ boats, more the budget end where smaller boats are similar cost to a car, but likewise it's something you should try before jumping in, you need to first find out if you get seasick.
CONGRADULATIONS!! I'm sorry you went through so much trouble on your previous channel, I'm glad this one seems so supportive! If you're looking for deep dive long form podcasts on youtube, Well There's Your Problem does episodes on different types of engineering disasters. It's like a podcast but with slides so you can just listen or look at the useful diagrams when they come up. Thank you for the useful tips on how to survive this lifestyle! Cool works looks great. I can't wait to see your next adventure!
Congrats on your 6 yrs thats awesome im from new york and im in the process of remodeling my 36ft fleetwood southwind RV and then I'm going to hit the road . Would love to discuss with you about the whole way of life, work and so on etc. It would be such a great help .you are actually down to earth unlike some others who do this way of life and have a big following on TH-cam and all of a sudden they think they are "A" list celebrities and no longer know how to communicate with ppl forgetting that they once were where i am now ...just starting out and having a million questions
Rosa I just found your channel yesterday from clicking on this video. I have subscribed and probably watched about 10 videos now from start to finish. Your adventures are amazing and your approach to car life aligns with why I love this movement - it is about freedom and self sufficiency rather than an aesthetic van build. I’d love if you did another Q&A because your answers to this one have been so interesting. In particular how you deal with friends in your past life not understanding your lifestyle and coming to terms with your shift in identity. Im not planning to do car life but have started to live a simpler life and have lost friends as a result and struggling with that. Wishing you all the best.
I’m curious on your personal grooming and upkeep - - maybe, personal background on your tattoos and Artist/town… How did you come up with name Elrond The Element for your Ride or Die (maybe answered already in previous videos!)
Rosa hi, what I love about U is Ur uniqueness. U are feminine and a strong woman mentally n physically naturally not a role Ur playing. Ur eloquence is natural and it makes Ur communication revelant because Ur speaking truthfully n from the heart. Ur information for anyone interested in this lifestyle is priceless based on experience! Ur a beautiful woman with many talents yet Ur humbleness is something that in my opinion exposes the beauty of this great nation which U expose in Ur travels! May God bless n keep U safe!!
Man, respect for doing this out of an element. I keep thinking that I need a van to get into this lifestyle, but I have lived out of my car before. The only difference is I was forced into it, but now I'm living in a house in Chandler, Arizona and I can't stand to be in the city any longer. The wild calls me. Love your Tolkien tats btw
I’m soooo glad that TH-cam decided that I’d like your channel. Good job Mr. Tube. Anyhoooo you’re so neato Rosa. Forgive me I forgot what your car/house is named but I absolutely adore how you’ll go down swinging with it until the wheels fall off. Let’s start a nomadic punk rock band. “Rosa and the stolen catalytic converters”
Love this! I know I’ll be watching this at least a few times haha congratulations on 6 years! Your friendship means a lot and I’m so happy we “met”. You’ve been such an amazing help and inspiration for me living in my truck. Thank you for that❤️
Hun, you answered as many questions as you needed to. I was particularly interested in the North Dakota thing. I'm working on a renovation right now and considering walking away from everything here, no more being a taxable income source for a municipality... I liked your advice to try it out in small steps and see how it goes. My life is complicated and has lots of outside influence, to a point where i dont feel im living how i want to live anymore, it has to stop. This was a very good video, very candid and honest about van life and worth every minute of my time. i subscribed, maybe not to reap the wisdom but maybe just to see how someone makes this lifestyle work. keep up the good stuff and sleep well at night.
Being childfree isn't a selfless act. People want children through all kinds of selfish motivations. I really like children, and would've probably been a great father. However, I didn't like what the norms of a conventional family life would entail in our current society. So for me the choice to go child free is more about being able to live an authentic life where I am present and emotionally connected to the world around me. Whenever I talk about being childfree I hear people blurting out things like "aren't you lonely without children?", "who's gonna take care of you when you're older?", "children is the greatest gift in life" and so on. But to me, those statements are inherently selfish motivations. And even worse, a lot of people measure their personal success by achieving a "happy family". Personally I focus much more on how I can help others, how I can be emotionally present, now when I don't have children and have more time on my hands. I strive to constantly improve and become a better person... So yeah, the whole idea that childfreeness is inherently egoistic is really just a deeply flawed generalization that people push on childfree people.
I know what you mean. A fully-equipped, semi-glam, van conversion just doesn't seem like camping. I can't fully explain what the attraction to camping, but is has to do with simplicity, self reliance, roughing it, resourcefulness and nature. A large RV feels like driving around in a house, and increases the distance between me and nature. It would be nice to stand up, though.
happy 6 years! love the vids, lots of useful info especially since i started the same journey in my rav4 about a week ago. i'm ganna stay in texas for a little while to save up money but 95 degrees at bedtime is defiantly on hard mode lol. keep up the great work and thank you for the plethora of tips/info on ur channel !
Congratulations on six years with Elrond! ❤ I’ve enjoyed the long video from you and getting to know a bit more about you 😊 also I know of the videos you used to be part of but I like you better on your own channel, your personality shines through much more than the other videos and it’s been a joy following your journey ❤
Hi, new fan here. My daughter got into this lifestyle (emma amd Bus Buss) and while home on the holidays we hung out with a few of your vids, and found you very authentic, chill, and .. great content. This vid captures alot of honesty and i personlly really appreciate all that you do. Thank you for posting and just being yourself!!! God Bless!aa
This is the first time I have seen one of your videos. You are a very experienced and mature young lady. It’s so nice to see someone truly live their dream life at a young age or any age really. I personally can’t wait to retire so I can spend longer periods of time at my cabin or possibly try to live there for a year. Your video is very inspiring and please keep chasing the dream!!
I do really love this lifestyle and I really want to show people that you don't need a big van or fancy equipment to make it work 😊 I appreciate you being here!
well said
Fad try paying rent! UK loads of ppl have to live in vans now...
💜hi,
Wow you're cool.
Before I go, do you send reminders out for your q&A's, or if I asked how you're doing here is that ok, maybe get a response when you are on line
Just askin'.
Later on,
💜✌️💜
Well done, my dear. I'm an78 year old woman and have been seriously contemplating living in my car on the road before I get OLDer....love your spirit.
You can probably see so much living in a car for just a year just pull the trigger and do it
Make the leap!! Or do what Rosa suggests...maybe just take an extended road trip to try it out. I go for a month in fall to the desert mostly sleeping in my car. Its grueling but I'm always happy I've done it. Good luck. Life is for LIVING😊💗🙏
Dont do it shes bo where near 78 yrs old... the ppl ridiculous
Have you tried it???
Live on cruises 🚢
The way you articulate everything is really captivating. I'm not sure why.
LOL. But seriously much respect.
lol she has laptop and smartphone, monks arent anything special
@@Azuria969 lmao, 😂 would love to see you live in such a extremely tiny space like that for just one month let alone six years. Oh and yes w/ your laptop and cell phone.😏
@@mikefranks4528 Been there, done that. It's easy with a smartphone and a laptop.
I can't express how much I respect someone who can talk for a long stretch and still be coherent and concise. I get so tired of enduring filler words, useless repetition, and tangents just to learn a few valuable things.
You seem like a cool person . Shalom ❤
Same, I try to make TH-cam videos and I can't talk for more than a min without messing up, she's drunk too.
@petrushka1611 especially being coherent and concise as she drinks a bottle of champagne
You are one of the rare vanlifer that has this authentic approach and this is exactly what I like!
very sweet! Glad you found someone that adds to your life. i agree this young lady is very authentic and it is refreshing to watch
What an inspiration you are and a refreshing, sweet young lady.
Car insurance 100 bucks amonth wow for something your possibley never gonna use . Wow I should be I insurance
Are you willing to downgrade to no room. Fuck I love my rooom & space.
@redskyatnight123
Insurance is mainly to insure that greedy insurance companies get ultra rich and they will drop any risky clients asap.
Even some rich people with big homes are lonely. It's nice that you can find wholesomeness in solitude. As long as you're happy, you can continue doing what you want. Enjoyed watching this one. Hi, Elrond! :)
Exactly! I'm glad you understand ❤️ and I'm very happy!
Even with kids now she does rekindle my curiosity for this life, you said it right.
I love that!! I think a more minimalistic life and a small living is such a cool way to live! I hope you have a beautiful life ❤️
I loved you on both channels. I understood that you are not a person for constant cold and snow. If you’ve been by yourself for so long, it’s difficult to travel with someone else. I enjoy your channel happy sixth year
That’s awesome
Happy sixth year 🎉❤ greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
I find her truck quite roomy & reliable. Yay Honda!!
Congratulations on 6 years. The end of April marks eight years for me. Turning 75 this month, and I'm just going to keep doing this. Not much on my TH-cam channel called Grand Caravan Life, still buying more ties and tools, I'll get to it one of these days!
Is titman your real last name😅
Nothing wrong with being solo. It doesn’t mean being lonely like some people think. Being solo is a positive. When I’m with people too much, I need time alone to recover. Traveling with someone can be tough. My wife and I can be riding together and not need to speak for hours. Love your vids and your ink!
I think that's so beautiful! There's something really special about being able to be comfortable in silence with another person ❤️
You can be the loneliest person in the world in a room full of people
@@wisdomhasbuiltherhouse990 The loneliest person in the world was the astronaut in the lunar orbiter as it went around the far side of the moon while the other astronauts were on the surface. He was completely alone and was the farthest any human has ever been from earth. He even lost all communications for a good amount of time on the far side due to radio blackout.
I am from Philadelphia too and now I live in Bay Area ca. I like your personality it’s inspiring.
I’m interested in visiting the PNW in this way. I grew up in and have lived my entire life in the desert and high plain regions. I long to see the woods. I need to see mountains, MOUNTAINS, Gandalf…. This was a super informative video for someone who is looking for where to start, so thank you!
I love the honesty of the build, your adventures and the reality of your journey. Wishing you happiness and safety on your travels!
Thank you!! And thank you for your experience with these cars. I always love hearing that my Element has a long life ahead of him. 😊
I drive Prius and it has a warranty on the battery to 150k miles. I live in it and the climate control for me is invaluable. If I have to pay 4k every 150k miles to get 53 miles to the gallon and climate control, I’m totally cool with that
@@theaustralianhulkcurious what the $4k is for

Never forget those that stand by you
Keep on truckin' (& cooking!).
Till the wheels fall off 🤟 can't ever give up Elrond ❤️
And thank you! I'm doing my best but I'm definitely not the best editor lol and I'll never forget or take for granted my family's love and support ❤️ I couldn't do this without them

Be well!
Happy 6 years, Rosa!! 🎉 Love you and your channel! Will be here to support you and your adventures, always!
Thank you!! ❤️ I appreciate you!
South Dakota state residency tip, that was the best tip, imo. Thx!
Am pretty sure I will never adopt this lifestyle, but I just admire how you are thriving in it. A big plus is that I've always wanted to own an Element. Keep the vids coming -- am a solid fan!
mann this is my first time watching your videos, something about your energy and aura is so cute to me, no BS editing and you seem genuine
Raising animals is very rewarding as well.
very honest. so comforting and relaxing. Loved that you said your longest relationship is with your car.
At nearly 70, I love adventurous you tube channels and you are a remarkable young lady. I was first led to the -33 degree today, then this get to know you cast. Glad that you are self aware of your solitude. I am 63 and feel the same way as I love driving and staying in my camper alone. If my guy wants to come along we end up fighting because he doesn’t get the camping thing.
I'm glad you understand ❤️ I find solitude so peaceful!
You are an inspiration. Thank you for answering questions. I was a little worried you might be lonely, tbh. Glad to know that is not the case.

It's a very long time. I definitely didn't think I'd be doing it for this long but I just love it so much ❤️ thank you!!
@@nightlyre198FR! if anyone hates kids I SURE AF HOPE THEIR NOT HAVING ANY.

Thank you! 😊 figuring out where to sleep was the worst part of starting this lifestyle but the apps like ioverlander really really help ❤️
Great story but, IMO, It's a very gentle version of what van life really is~
www.imdb.com/title/tt9770150/ Good luck. Be safe (no cats!) Learn basic auto repair too. xo
Sorry, I never write this much, ever. Sorry for my negativity. I just had strong feelings about this and had to warn you. Peace out~~

Fyi truck stops are open 24/7 and I always feel safe cuz there's always ppl around. Don't forget your earplugs! Haha. And they're free
David.
I love how honest you are, with yourself and everyone! It's hard to find in today's world!! Amazing journey you are on ❤
I haven't been happy for soo many years, I'm 26, no gf no wife no kids, nothing holding me back, still live with my parents, moving out and living in my car and going traveling, working seasonal for national parks sounds soo appealing
I'm happy for you ❤️ I hope you see so many cool places and have so much fun! Safe travels!!
I love listening to you talk , keeps me company.
Wow thank you! I absolutely understand that it wasn't for you, but I love that you gave it a try ❤️ I appreciate you being here!
That’s what makes it special 🥰
I’m getting ready to do exactly what you are (No channel) but I appreciate your honesty and real-ness! Kudos to you! Keep on keeping on gurl! You got this! 🥂
Just found your channel, Love it! So curious to find the older channel NGL.
@@thedeafcattledog8608Are you male? That feels like a very male answer. Women still have to worry about walking to their car at night.
@@thedeafcattledog8608 Oh boy. You’re one of those.
I think there's something beautiful about being able to be alone and truly happy 😊
@@lifeinmyelement I’m taking this reply for myself. While I love being with people, I’m currently learning to enjoy being alone. Not easy to do at 60. You and your videos are very encouraging. ❤️❤️❤️
The ONLY piece of advice I ever received as a child was 'its okay to be alone and enjoy your own company' and I took that and ran with it!!🤣
The only reason Ive ever entertained a partner is for practical reasons, (housing/financial when I was very young and i'm scared of being alone if I get old or sick), but otherwise I'm happy not compromising for someone else.
@@ellaovawhat about Love?
@@momana550I’m 60 also… I’m alone, but not lonely 😊 🙏 🫶🏼
Most people live a whole life and never experience that feeling you have found. So you have accomplished a huge step in finding what works for You!
When you started talking about loneliness: I have that same feeling. I have never said it out loud, but when you explained: 🎯
I hope you eventually can maybe share living expenses with someone and be still for a few months and take a rest from driving. Then you’ll be recharged and ready to continue on this adventure. God loves you!❤
Yup, I feel the same way. I don't get lonely AT ALL and prefer being alone. There's this expectation that humans are social communal creatures but technology is allowing greater choice towards independence
Happy 6th anniversary Rosa! So happy I was introduced to your channel. You have inspired me to explore the camping life. 🖤
I love that ❤️ go on all the adventures!!
Power and wealth can be ugly and scary staying humble and in tune with nature is the most beautiful centering thing especially cause I get to see all my friends when I look into the earth❤️❤️
It’s best to just take care of yourself you know yourself the most you see that of course take care of that beautiful vessel I’m proud of you❤️❤️
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my TH-cam channel 6 months ago about self development. Now I have 557 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
…add one more!!! 🙏🫶🏼

Happy 6 years! I’m also from Philly moved out to farm land… now finally in CA! But I’m inspired to live in my car after my next job here and came across your video in my exploration. I admire what you’re doing and it’s so cool that your family was supportive.
How do you like California which part are you in ? I'm also in California
I've seen countless people not know when to throw in the towel and the car sucked on their wallet passed any common sense.
Love your take on luxury van life! And appreciate your down to earth vibes!
You're a warrior for being ones self. We should all do this, in our own way.
Dude this is truly inspiring! Thank you for sharing your experience!!
What a nice video! Congratulations on your 6th anniversary!🎉 I understand that you love Elrod, after all he always brings you safely to the place where you want to be! On to the next 6 years or as you said: at least 5 years! ❤ Greetings from the Netherlands!
Hi!! Thank you 😊 I appreciate you being here!
In Scotland...Just Alex?
Such good info! Thanks for sharing. My son is thinking of getting into van life and your videos are very helpful. I really liked your advice about doing a test run. I have been advising the same and want to support him any way I can. Good luck to you in your journeys. 👍👍👍
Girl, you are super chill and you keep it raw and real! Love your stuff. keep it up!
I've been living like you for over 20 years now and totally love it. I will never give it up. You got good instincts for the life. Making new fire rings and having campfires is a must. It's not camping without a campfire. I almost always have a campfire seen out my window every dark morning.
The trees around u are gorgeous ❤
If you’re an introvert it’s pleasant being alone.
Yep
Happy 6 years, Rosa!! 🎉
Don't get fooled by the marketing hype, a Samsung S21 is a pretty good phone and probably has as good if not better camera as an iPhone of the same era, iPhone's tend to wash out and yellow the picture, it gives a happy vibe which is why many people prefer / think the photo's are better, but it comes at a cost of loosing detail (particularly in the background) and if you are already using colour correction you might be better off staying with what you have.
Congrats🎉 I’m joining the road life too! Yiure videos are so wholesome and real, takes a certain type of person to love like this❤
Love this video. You have a great way of communicating. I feel like you are a very genuine person. ❤
I'll be a friend, friend. Wishing you all the best ✌🏽
“Rosa and the stolen catalytic converters”
these are some of the most well thought out answers. I hope you get 5 more years of bliss and wish you the best of luck in all future endeavors.

@@lifeinmyelement you’re totally fine! You’re just in full on hobbit mode😂 can’t wait to hear from you! Truck life’s going good so far!
