Well, you have to keep in mind that the radio recording was, in fact, from a radio station transmission. This means that the original tape recording passed from the radio stations’s audio processing chain (which includes most of the times a dynamic eq and a very violent multiband compressor/limter), then summed to mono and then recorded onto a tape by a radio receiver. So what you are hearing are actually two “remasters” one on top of the other (the radio station’s one and the actual remaster), that’s why the William Paiva’s tape, even after a very good remaster, sounds a bit “less” than this recording here, even if it’s in true natural stereo and in higher quality.
Real talk, this isn't usually even my kind of music. I learned about this song just a few days ago in a lost media video, and tonight, "foooond myyyyy miiiind" pops into my head out of nowhere. Maybe one day we'll know who to thank for the earworm.

I went backpacking through Mexico and most of Latin America back in the 90s, and I swear I remember this song being played often on the radio. I kept in touch with some people from those days, including some DJs I met, and none of them remember who originally made the song. Closest thing I got to an answer was a guy claiming that he had been invited to a Pet Shop Boys album listening party where this one was playing, but they later decided to scrap the song for mass release in the US and elsewhere. Not sure how credible that claim is…

My dad says he remembers hearing something like this when he was a boy. But that was back in Mexico. Might be a song sang by a foreigner.
I went backpacking through Mexico and most of Latin America back in the 90s, and I swear I remember this song being played often on the radio. I kept in touch with some people from those days, including some DJs I met, and none of them remember who originally made the song. Closest thing I got to an answer was a guy claiming that he had been invited to a Pet Shop Boys album listening party where this one was playing, but they later decided to scrap the song for mass release in the US and elsewhere. Not sure how credible that claim is…

The only way to be sure of that claim is by contacting Pet Shop Boys. Though, who knows if we'll even get a respond from them over something like this if it was indeed a scrapped song; they may not see this song as any value anymore.
