Taking lessons at the local community college through continuing education. I play guitar but am new to the violin. Your video is a tremendous help as it answers many questions about blowing such as turning the hand inward slightly toward the frog. Have thought I saw violinists doing that including our teacher but wasn't sure. I also noticed though you didn't mention it the movement when you are reversing direction of the bow. It appeared quick but fluid which would improve sound. Keeping the elbow up was something I will be more aware of.
My bow hold has been a challenge in that it hasn't been relaxed as yours is. You placed your thumb in a different way than I have been doing it. Your explanation as to why is helpful. My thumb has been placed on a flat surface of the stick though I have been vigilant to keep it bent. I am going to try your way as it would seem to lend to more fluidity. I did have a brief moment yesterday where my bow hold felt relaxed.
Lastly thank you for mentioning that people on the outside whom perhaps have never tried to learn an instrument may judge what they are hearing.

Great video that describes everything that is wrong with the way I bow, lol. Despite having long arms, I had much difficulty using the entire bow when I practice. I will have to pay attention to my elbow more. Will work on using your suggestions! Thank you.
