    Hello! Just new (22 Dec '23) to Venice from Taxifornia! Most excellent video and explanations! So much better than other sites that just smooth over the details. I grew up about 200 yards from the Sacramento Northern in Lafayette, CA. My grandfathers were a pattern maker and roundhouse super, respectively, for the SP in the 1890's and early 1900s at Tulare and Port Costa, CA. Great to be here!🚂

    Ah, nothing like the first hand experience of what it takes to really operate a railroad to allow you to truly appreciate the finished (well, never really finished) product! Of course the real secret is once everything has been totally rehabbed to keep up the maintenance so it stays that way rather than having to face another rebuild later on (of course for museum groups always easier said than done!).
    Congratulations on a first rate look at some of the "Nitty-Gritty" Real Railroading-looking forward to your next additions.
    Just a thought, since you are really getting into serious railroading, you should look into attending the next Railroad Passenger Car Association Convention, which covers all facits of heritage railroading, mid-January '24 in (conveniently for you) Cordele, GA hosted by the SAM operation.
    Meantime-stay cool (when you can)!!!

      Well, I appreciate that very much! I’ll definitely have to look into the convention, cause it sounds really interesting and if I’ve got the time I’d like to try and make it to one of them. Provided that the budget is properly used on new ties in the years going forward, we should be able to upkeep this fairly well, especially if we can restore rail access to us in the future, cause that will allow us to bring in more rock for the track by rail….much cheaper than over the road, especially when there are folks willing to donate the rock to us if we can just go get it…topic for a future video, I really hope.

      Tell me about it…we’ve got one big cooler on the Tie inserter as well as a personal one I bring that we pack with drinks every day before heading down the track. We would quite literally be dead by now if we didn’t, plus it makes for a nice ice bath to dunk your face in every once in a while….🤣

    Dakota: This is a very educational video. Thanks so much. Question: I see the tracks still run from Parish to Palmetto; can they be used to occasionally move rolling stock in, or out? Or is the entire museum railroad an isolated operation? Please do more videos on the museum as you get time. Thanks again.

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Mike! As for what I call ‘The Ellenton Stretch’, that line is still owned by Florida Power & Light (as is our section of track, leased to us long term), and once they negated the need to use the tracks to bring in equipment, they stopped maintaining the tracks, meaning that the south end fell into disrepair, while we maintained the section that we ran over. As I’ve responded to another comment about this, there are talks of matters amidst that may allow us to open back up that section of track so that we aren’t landlocked. Getting it back open would require extensive clearing of vegetation and potentially extensive structural work like we’re doing now.
      The details are still very iffy though, so I’m not advised to make any of those details public at the moment. As more is decided and put into action, my next video from the museum will probably include those details, as there’s quite a few changes coming that I wish to cover, in which ‘The Ellenton Stretch’ could fit right in.

    Are there any plans on the stretch of track from Parrish to Ellenton?

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While it’s not advisable to make the details public yet, as they’re still a bit up in the air, there are plans for it. Florida Power and Light still owns all of the right of way, so what becomes of it ultimately will involve them. When more is known for sure, I’ll definitely have a video out about it, since the details of that will involve changes to our track as well.
