  • Aight Analysts, this week I had the opportunity to sit down with Yelawolf. His newest release "War Story" and "Trunk Muzik 4Ever" are out now, so check them out if you missed it. In this conversation we talk about him being the innovator in this newest wave of country rap crossovers, the impact he had on artists like Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and Jelly Roll, and more. In a particularly revealing moment, he describes what he learned culturally from his clash with Royce Da 5'9.

I wish more artist had that outlook on what he said about not trying to appeal the masses, create what it is you as an artist wants. I have no loved every single Yelawolf album but I’ve always checked for his albums and still enjoy his story telling.
I understand how it can sound like a diss if someone said “ they sleeping on you” but as a fan it’s just a shocker to see people like clones of him but not the source

At first I was liking it, but when I compare it to love story or trunk muzik returns or ghetto cowboy, it sounds a bit hollow. War story would be more enjoyable if he cut at least 10 songs. He got some good songs on there though.

8:47 the point is it doesn't matter where it came from as long as you're putting out beautiful work who cares. Whatever music you make is the music you make it doesn't matter where you're influences come from if you want to acknowledge your influences go right ahead if you don't we still know the music came from you that's all that matters when we're listening to it

The way he addressed the Royce shit made me gain respect for him.
He's not Kid Rock, wavin the confederate flag because it seems cool to some of his white fans. Like it or not, the dixie is a part of his complex make up from shit he was born into.
Yelawolf's bm and kids are black, he's clearly not a racist.. but the Royce feud made him look a type of way. He needed to speak on it

Man how people get it twisted up . Isn't no wonder these so called beefs exist. Dude has mixed kids. Most of his closest friends sure aren't white. I don't think he has a racist bone in his body. But I also don't see behind the scenes. Just my opinion from what I know of him. Been listening since 2008 2009. About a dozen live shows. I'm a fan of originality and REAL ARTISTS. You ain't lived it then don't rap about it. You're looking at an innovative artist who has always been a few steps ahead of everyone else. If you don't like that album today you will eventually. I personally have nothing but respect for artists who aren't scared to do their own thing and open up the lanes for the traffic coming behind them. And yelas opened up many lanes. ⚡⚡⚡⚡

Drinking, rambling, whole bunch of non-learned lessons.
He doesn't get it. He refuses to receive the lesson.
