I'm having a sale this weekend! We are donating all the proceeds to my mom's mission trip fund. The last few yard sales I've had have been for a cause our family cares deeply about. Having a garage sale for me is an opportunity to clean out my home and be generous with what comes of it. My kids are happy to put toys in the pile of it helps grandma!
Because of work, I don't know that I could do it as early in the week as Thursday...but I'm thinking about it for a Friday for my next one. I did once go to a "preview sale" on a Friday evening because the woman said that people could come by while she was setting up for her Saturday morning sale. It looked like she had decent traffic. One thing I have done in the past is to start at 7:30 on Saturday because most yard sales around us start at 8:00...a couple at 7:00. I got a good response for starting on the half hour...either before most or right after the super early ones. I'm working on pricing as I box things up now...that's the key to keep it from being overwhelming or disorganized! Also, I think pictures in your ads help as well as a list of what you have available to help pick up search terms. I posted a yard sale ad last year for my parents and listed items. I forgot to delete it, but it worked out because a couple of weeks later (when I would have thought it would have been expired), someone emailed to see if they still had the exercise bike. They did - and they got $100 for it!
Great video!! This was one of the videos I plan on filming this summer :) Most years I go to my mom's church garage sale....but this year me, my mom, and some other family members plan on having our first multifamily garage sale. You are so right about selling hot dogs and pop....I see how the church makes a ton of money by having a concession stand. Also, it totally makes a difference how you present your items, I cannot believe how many people sit junk out on their tables...literally it looks like boxes of junk. Another tip is to get your kids involved if they are old enough. My children coral their items, and whatever they sell they get to keep the money.
Veri Keri Thanks Keri! That is so awesome that you guys are getting together to have a garage sale. I TOTALLY agree with you about how you present your items. I was just telling my sister after visiting a few other garage sales this weekend about how much junk people put out! Great tip about getting your children involved. My children are 1, 3 and 5...I try to keep them out of the way as much as possible! Thanks for sharing and watching!
Veri Keri Love this idea. My kiddos would be "ON" that concession stand. They plan to make money this summer in order to get some new items for their rooms. They are awesome. We love your channel.
GREAT TIPS! Thanks. One thing I like to do is have a bin of FREE items - one year I just needed to get rid of an excess of hangers I had. Put the bin at the end of the driveway with FREE on it and lots of people will stop to see what it is. On the last day, I also put FREE on things I want to get rid of and not have to pack up even for charity. This works well with big items. And you are right - THURSDAY is the best day.
I also found that having a "Electronic Testing Station" set up on a long folding table with several extension cords already plugged in ready for people to test out the item is helpful. of course you would not sell a broken item however people don't know you. you never want to be asked can I test it out to see how it works and say sure "hold on" let me find an outlet or extension cord the minute you turn around and start scrambling trying to find something they have already loss interest and walked away. you never want people to think you are unprepared and expected them to buy something without trying it out. thank you guys again , I'm happily subscribing to your chanel and sharing your videos. You too should consider offering garage sale services where you can go assist people in getting set up ready to have a successful garage sale and offer complete garage sale services where you set up , and sell for them. I'm positive their is plenty of people who would love & need direction and assistance getting started and set up and I'm sure others would love the idea of having someone else do all the planning, set up, and selling. People would love to pay someone to do it all, they know they are going to make extra money they did not have so it's not like they are going to take money from their bill / personal account. plus some people need a reminder that their garage is just that it's not Macy's and it's not a high end consignment shop. when I go to garage sales and start to see the excessive pricing..my first thought.."WOW They are proud of their stuff" My last thought..."Ok I think I'm done at this one...there's no need to keep looking" lol
roxysnuggles Great tip! We usually allow anyone to use an outlet in our garage if they want to test and item. You shared some great ideas!!! Thanks so much for subbing and watching.
TIP, when selling furniture, sofas tables etc, make sure your customer will pick up the piece of furniture the same day. Give your customers a time the g.s. ends so that they return with a vehicle they can use to load up furniture.
I just watched this video for a second time. I'm having a yard sale this weekend and wanted to refresh my memory. Your tips and organization are inspiring.
So glad to see these tips!! I have a garage sale every year and make ALOT of money. My sale in May just netted me $846. I do all the things you talk about because these are how you make money at garage sales!! You both are hilarious!!
I don't have any debt, but I watch your videos because I like them. Your husband is funny! They know how to bring a blush to our faces, don't they! LOL Great video with great information.
this is the best garage sale information video I've ever seen. house we watching garage sale videos because I threw a garage sale last year that was semi unsuccessful and I wanted tips on what to sell and I watched videos last year okay, but this video it's so helpful and thank you guys for posting it.
Lol we are having a garage sale Saturday and my husband is already going- ugh I will have to work. Just found your channel, looking forward to watching all your tips! You two are so fun!
love this .... I tried a yard sale alone a few years ago - had just coordinated with my parents in the past and just felt it was an enormous amount of work... but I love the tip of getting a box set aside to not only start stockpiling the things to sell but to go ahead and price them at the time too - totally going to do this. Wish I had a basement to store in - we don't have those in Texas... I have seen the water/soda's sell like crazy at yard sales great tips. Thanks so much!!
Very Helpful tips- you mentioned donations slips for tax write offs, have you in your experience found the need to have photos of donated items? I've heard that is necessary for valid tax write off.
Ada White Ideally 7 or 8 in the morning is good because of people who are on their way to work. The year that I had it start at 8 was my most successful year. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Anna Carter No problem. I just left a garage sale where the woman said that most of her items sold on Thursday. She was packing up her sale early because she did not have much left! Have fun and sell, sell, sell! Thanks for sharing and watching.
I know this video has been out here awhile, but the first time I've played it in its entirety. I'm a veteran garage saler from both sides of the table and still got some great tips from you guys! Love the ideas about driving traffic to your garage...really true. I know you are in the Chicago area, so here's another tip...advertise on garagesalefinder.com. Don't know if they link to craigslist, but they provide directions, pictures, etc and you can even put in a keyword for what you are looking for. I get an email every week of all the sales in my selected mile radius and can easily travel around using my phone. Besides 'personal' sales they often have estate and community sales listed, so it is very comprehensive. To advertise is free, so give it a shot...I do believe they are a national service. Keep up the great work!
Excellent video..charming and intelligent couple..learned a lot on garage sales..have one coming up next week (condo site-all inclusive unit garage sale) ..we are new to this. Loved the video and have subscribed to what appears to be excellent financial tips! Keep up the good work !!
Great video full of amazing tips!! Getting ready to have our very first yard sale and I didn't even know where to begin. So thankful I found this video. You two are a new find for me...you've got a fan!!

"Your garage ain't Macy's" Oh lord I just cracked up. I've seen too many sales like that lately and now that's all im gonna hear in my head when I see those high prices lol.
Great Video!! I'm hosting a garage sale for a friend it's been a while since I had a garage sale and I wanted to brush up on my skills. It was great getting a refresher course. I also learned new tips😀 I knew cold drinks were a big hit especially in the Florida summer heat. I never thought of the grill for hotdogs and stuff...what a great idea especially when families are shopping and the kids are pulling on you to hurry up because they are hungry. Or grandma that needs to sit down and put something on her stomach because it's time for her to take her medication. I also love the kids toys idea for when they get out of the car they are immediately be engaged and not want to put that toy down. thanks for sharing!!
I made $2700 in two days and no my prices were not Macy’s prices. I had furniture, tools, TVs and computers. I had to get rid of everything that reminded me of my divorce.

Tai, you & your husband had me smiling & laughing almost this entire video! You both are such a cute & great couple!!! He was so funny about calling you the basket lady or about the bootleg tapes. Ha! Ha! I enjoy these videos & tips SO much!!! Thankfully, I always do really good at my garage sales. I'm talking two thousand plus every time. But in our area children's clothes, & children's items sell BIG TIME!!! I loved this video! Every tip that you two talked about was important & right on target, in order to have a great sale!!! Thanks for such a wonderful video!!! 😊
Thank you very much!! Very helpful. One quick question: What do I do if cars block from seeing the YardSale ?? I'm kinda stuck having my yard sale outside my apartment complex and usually cars park and block the view ! WHAT DO I DO ;(
Hi, I just wanted to say, I took all your advice, and notes and everything. But my signs were brought down by people, no one from CL came and the only 2 people that showed up in the 4 days I was at it, didn't buy anything. I think you should add that location is a BIG Factor, I live on a dead end street in a small suburban area. I can walk to the metro but if you don't know how to get there you will get lost. It was also 100 degrees, I made sure it wasn't raining but I guess you have to make sure it isn't that hot. It was indoors.
You should show us one of your yard sale set up, what I mean is one day you set up vlog it. Anyway thanks for the video and I will subcribe if you have newer videos
Hi I have a question and need advice (Great video by the way!!! Cute couple). I want to start having yard sales at least once a month. There is a family about 5 houses up from me who has a yard sale every Saturday/Sunday. My concern is that if I advertise online or even with signs and post my address... as they travel to my house they will run into the other family's yard sale first and they may think they have found the right house. My home is not visible from theirs and I would just hate to see people not even continue further down - reaching the correct location.
+Sandra Evans You could make your signs a special color and reference that in your ad in BIG LETTERS. (Example: Follow the large orange signs.) You may also want to partner with the other house and pass out flyers to each other's sale. You can have a special on the flyer, that if a customer shows it to you...they will get a discount off of a $5 or more purchase. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
This is great! Thanks so much!! Trying to have a garage sale this weekend (Friday at least) and this helps a lot! Just subscribed. I have to believe you have other great videos :-)
So Talot had me laughing so hard I was crying!!! He needs to come to Florida and tell these people that a used old grandma flowered pattern stained couch is NOT worth $$350.00!!!!! I stopped going to garage sales here.. people so over price things where I can go to walmart and get it New cheaper..Great video! :)
alovinglifewith7 Ok!!!! I went to a few garage sales this past weekend and all I saw was junk that was overpriced. It's ok to sell whatever you want, just make sure it's priced accordingly...lol. Thanks so much for sharing and watching!
Enjoy your videos! Your hubby is hilarious and I could totally relate to what he was saying (and his expressions---especially being from around the way myself :)
bosslady1598 Some people do use a bill marker. I would rather not accept larger bills because of my comfort level. Thanks so much for sharing and watching!

denise n and set a public meet up place and make sure the person has a picture in their page.
I just KNEW you guys were doing the Dave Ramsey program!!! I love him :)
Thanks

I love the tips that you all give! Tai (hope I spelled that right) is a planner after my own heart! :-)
