Oscar Wilde's statement is of tremendous value. When he says, "When the Gods want to punish us, they answer our prayers," he is saying something about our unconsciousness. We are not aware what we are doing, we are not aware what we are asking, we are not aware what we are praying for.

Just within a week the man was almost mad, dying. He asked the gods again and again, "Take the power back, I had no idea what I was asking. I have been punished enough." While he was praying for years, he had been dreaming that if he were granted this power he would become the richest man in the whole world; and now he had become the poorest man ever - past, present, future. He would sit in the court and nobody would turn up; he was left alone, and he had always been surrounded by people. My heart went out to Oscar Wilde when I read he was in prison for being gay. And because his partner had a well placed father he was not punished at all. I think the Oscar Wilde was a man born in the wrong time. He definitely would have been well received in this time.

I find the meaning and impact of famous quotations greatly diminished when they are delivered by a computer generated voice with bizarre inflections and no understanding of what it is saying.

My reflection on the quote is the following.
A gentleman has women.
Women are prepared to give birth, hence they should prepare themselves to suffer in some sort of diluted experiences of pain.
