If you want to hear the depth of Louis' compositional talent, listen to "Crash the Car" from this same Knower album. It's got a choir, and string and brass sections. Absolutely beautiful. Genevieve kills on it.

Yeah, that's maybe favorite from them. I think Genevieve contributes a lot to the melodic composition. And her lyrics too. Anyway, geniuses all.

Actually, MonoNeon is right handed, just happened to grab the bass the wrong way and he stuck with it. I'm so glad he did.
It really let him lean into a unique style. Literally unlocked new techniques never before considered.
As a right handed bass player, I can't wrap my mind around it. He is phenomenal
Mononeon is one the most incredible and innovative bassist on the planet.
Louis himself is one of the most incredible and innovative drummers around. They all blend together technique and originality very well.

Knower is a fantastic band. Big fan since 2017. They’re super skilled and humorous, but they are no joke musically!

Definitely sounds somewhat of a callback to the style of Overtime. You should definitely give "I'm The President" a listen as well, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I was hoping you would react to this one. It's a banger. Hoping to see more Mononeon + Louis Cole together in the future.
Knower are definitely their own thing. A song by these guys is on one of the GTA V radio stations, "Skip The Shower," just as incredible and even more unnerving.
Also, it's great to see that you're not being boxed in by any specific musical genres. Have you heard Moon Hooch? They're like jazz-dance or something. Try "Bronst" or "Contrabass Dubstep."
Knower makes me happy. It really seems like that is the entire point of the band. Fun music you don't even realize has God-Tier musicianship on a casual listen. It's so fun.
Absolutely love that you’re covering Knower Geebz! They won’t get the giant clicks and views (yet!) but they’re doing some of the most fun and interesting blurring of jazz/funk/pop out there. I’m partial to Louis Cole’s solo work, but love me some Knower. The playing on this album is burning. They’re not putting the album on streaming services for 4-6 months, Bandcamp only for the time being.

I was lucky enough to become fan of these guys probably a decade ago now. They are simply amazing.
Knower are pure magic. Massive respect to all of the musicians and especially to Louis and Genevieve for being the core and heart of the band. Always puts a big smile on my face even as the musicianship blows my mind ...

Normally when a lefty flips a bass, they also flip the strings, so it plays like a normal bass. Mono is actually playing with the strings in reverse order, which is insane.
Don’t know how I missed this one. This is my second favourite on the album 🫶

Louis Cole is the drummer and all of his projects are so good and entertaining, including Clown Core
I love seeing Clown Core in the wild on these tracks (drums + sax players). I love this album so much. It may be my fav.
You could really pull any song from this band, or Coles solo stuff, or Artadis solo stuff, or monos solo stuff, or the projects I've seen Gendel and Rai in, they have a ton, but the two the you'd be filling a real hole in the market for are mono and Artadi. Both super avant garde sounds and production. Monos output is ridiculous and has some real bizarre bangers. Artadis two label albums are complete opposites- the older really using space with some unique melody and tone and the newer extremely full depth of sound... And still great melody, very underrated writer. Two of the only artists that make me turn my music brain off because I don't even really understand at all how they get to their final sound.
I've have a lot of respect tovards Ray, but with this beautiful thing, . . .He is One of the Greats for me now...

AFAIK Mononeon is not left handed. He just started playing this way. Also, the strings on the bass are not reversed as left handed persons do it - they are just kept right handed, but the bass is turned around. Crazy stuff though 🙂

EDIT: I've also read that MonoNeon (the bassist) is actually right-handed, just prefers to play leftie with an upside-down instrument. Literally insane.

Not sure there's a click unless they have tempo mapped it because a lot of their tracks will speed up, even in live performance which is something I fully appreciate, I am very much against trying to be a metronome set on one tempo. I've worked with producers who have made tempo maps to give a life like performance on recordings, usually always speeding up as is the natural tendency in exciting music. A cappella music tends to go sharp by the end apparently, something to be appreciated in the days of autotune.
Get this: Mono is a righty who plays lefty. The strings are upside down. He feels it gives him more focus on notes. Nuts.

I hadn't noticed that the bass player is a lefty playing a right handed bass. Now we need a Mononeon / Eric Gales colab.
They played together at the Dunlop Booth at the 2016 NAMM. It has been an epic pairing on TH-cam for many years.

I love this album, but the mix sucks on wheels. It sounds like he mixed it to be played on phone speakers, there's no treble. It's still a masterpiece, but I hope the vinyl sounds better. Best song on the album is Do Hot Girls Like Chords.
Yeah, I agree to a certain extend. But still, lofi is kind of a 'way of life' for LC. The juxtaposition of the extremely potent musicianship and the lofi sound is one of the charms of this artist. But I wouldn't complain if he would hire some great engineer/mixer to make an album with a real hifi sound. 'Life' is probably KNOWER's best sounding album. 'The weird part of the night' is probably LC's best sounding song. IMHO of course.
Do Hot Girls Like Chords is smoking hot and certainly my favorite of the new album as well. 'The President' is the worst sounding song on it, it seems like all frequencies above 12K or so are missing. Great song though!
