Hello, I told one of the companies to stop that dreadful music and play the village people, they laughed but I was serious. How much longer we could wait with some really nice music and not care about wait time!
I can imagine the US Navy rollin up with this song to WW3 with loud speakers 😂💯⚓️🔥 “Sir I see six men dancing on the ship! Should we engage fire or boogie with them” 😂
I'm 98, wearing my Bell bottoms and platform shoes like it was back in 1978. This music keeps me fit and hope to see 100 years in 2 years time. Look forward to getting a telegram from the Queen or Charles.
I’m 73 and still dancing to this beat. I absolutely love these tunes. So upbeat. So lively. Perfect way to start any day. Perfect way to get going. Get moving.
I remember when this song was released. As a kid, I thought it was quite catchy. As an old man now, I still find it catchy. As a U.S. Marine during the late 80's to late 90's, this song and video (along with Cher's "If I could Turn Back Time") gave me so much joy that I didn't join the Navy.
Im 71, and this group has the greatest motivating music, i could jive to it all day, and not get tired!!!! And so what if their orientation is different from other groups, its the music!!!!!!
I was lucky enough to see the Village People perform this live last week in CA. 40 something years later and Victor Willis can still bring the house down!
They filmed their official video for this song on my first ship. I was gone on leave at the time so I missed seeing them. The Navy did use this for their recruiting until they found out their orientation and they stopped using it.
I served in the Navy and folk made fun of it but at the end of the day .....1rst amendment gave them that right my favorite sailor was popeye especially when he pulled out that can of W.A. spinach
This song and the music video came out when I was 13. And at that time, I wasn't going to have the sophistication to know that somehow this was a "gay" band. I just loved the video and thought it was cool dudes.

Es un gram honor verlos y escucharlos a los Grandiosos VILLAGE PEOPLE y su In The Navy de 1979 los amo que siguie vigente mas que nunca en este 2022 y 2023 y 2024
I'm a straight female. Don't care what their sexual orientation was. Same with Queen and Freddie Mercury, and Boy George is one of my favorites. Loved all of their music and still do.
I agree with you,Olive. This is a great group of very talented musicians and their music keeps our attention and besides its fun, too! I’m enjoying this as much as when I first heard it. By the way, I’m only 82 years old , gotta dance as fast as I can, right? Have run, Macho Man is on next! Have fun, sweetie! Grandma
this may come as a shock apart from the red indian , the rest of them were all straight they were just acting apart , they were put together group like boy band ,, an the advertisment was macho looking guy wanted, ie moustaches , none them were friend before they joined the village people
Fantastic, i always loved the background music, many chords and fits so well with the vocals, very catchy! Find the instrumental version of this song and you know what i mean
This was the best music to dance to back in the day.. These young people think that they're music's good... some of it's Ok but give me those old songs!! They were Great!!!
Years ago, when I iived in Vegas, the guys would come into the disco where I worked. Felipe Rose (Indian) would always grab me to dance. This was after the show and they were still in costume. What fun! The name of the place was and still is "The Gipsy"
The funny thing is in other countries for many years the Village People and similar antics were considered almost like model masculinity. I grew up in USSR for part of the 80s and there the way village people looked and Freddy Mercury would absolutely be perceived as heterosexual masculinity. I remember they had the vinyl of Village People and everything. Then for a significant number of years guys would wear fashions from Europe and US which were considered “gay” outside of USSR but in USSR they thought its how straight men dressed. Not everyone was oblivious of this. But this was definitely a misunderstanding thing. In USSR and to some extent Russia today many people didn’t believe that such thing as acceptance of gays existed somewhere, and that if anyone was one they’d just think that they’re mentally ill.
Victor the playmaker genius his Vocals mixes it well in novelty factor blends with the others.Hes still chief and with the Band all these years later lifetime so far the only one

One of the most underrated bands. They were awesome

“Sir I see six men dancing on the ship! Should we engage fire or boogie with them” 😂
"Lt...prepare to get down..."
"those arent men, they are sailors"
In fact the Navy wanted to use the song for recruiting purposes until it was informed of the context.
I do not care what other people think I love the Village People

No wonder the American Navvy is so hopeless. You lot dancing on greased poles. Too busy manning your stations to be brave
China and Russia are scared.

My girl! I am 66 (how did that happen? but...but...?) I loved disco then and I still do ... proud of it!
This was a global hit back in 1979.
Victor, Randy, Alex, Felipe, David and Glenn. Original members rock!!

Don't you hesitate, there is no need to wait
They're signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young to join up today
But don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be always a good navy
Protecting the land and sea
