Top 5 must-see villages in Normandy
Normandy is a region located in the north of France and it has more than 3 million inhabitants in 2020 for an area of 29905 km2
The Normandy region as an administrative entity was created on January 1, 2016. It results from the merger of Lower and Upper Normandy, regions created in 1972[
In addition to its nature to inspire great artists, Normandy is known for its wild coasts and its bocages.
Normandy collects charming villages, which are often characterized by an architecture often marked by granite or half-timbering.
In this report, I will introduce you to the Top 5 must-see villages in Normandy, some of which are among the most beautiful villages in France.
Number 1: Etretat
Located in the department of Seine-Maritime in Haute-Normandie, the influence of the village of Étretat today goes far beyond the borders, and this by the beauty of its landscapes and the positive atmosphere which emerges from it.
Formerly a modest fishing village, Étretat became a renowned seaside resort in the 19th century.
The town of Étretat inspires the greatest, including many painters such as, for example, Monet, Corot, or even Boudin...
But also filmmakers and writers like Maupassant and Maurice Leblanc....
Number 2: Saint Valery-en-Caux
Located between Dieppe and Fécamp, the pretty seaside town of Saint-Valery-en-Caux attracts many fishermen and visitors strolling through the region.
Now a marina, the village was first built in the 13th century for herring fishing, a typical product of the region.
You can relax on the beach listening to the sound of waves and seagulls, while the children have fun discovering a water activity.
Number 3: Veules-les-Roses
Located by the sea, in the department of Seine-Maritime, in the Normandy region, Veules-les-roses is one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Nestled since the 15th century in the hollow of a valley leading to the sea, Veules-les-Roses is one of the oldest villages in the Pays de Caux.
It is also a holiday resort very popular with artists in the 19th century, especially Victor Hugo. You will be able to discover its seaside and its alleys with their timeless charm which continue to attract many visitors.
Veules les roses is also characterized by its river, which is the smallest in France.
Number 4: Quiberville sur mer
The town is located in the department of Seine-Maritime in Haute-Normandie.
Quiberville-sur-Mer has all the charm of small seaside resorts and the calm of the countryside!
You will find in Quiberville sur mer the largest stretch of sand at low tide, you can stroll on the beach along the sea on its gold-colored sand, and contemplate the local fauna while admiring idyllic landscapes.
Number 5: Fecamp
The town of Fécamp is located about 40 km north of Le Havre.
On the heights of Fécamp, Cap Fagnet offers an impressive panorama of the city, the sea and the white cliffs of the Côte d'Albâtre. This highest point was also a historic and strategic high place, sometimes a Gallic fortress, sometimes a link in the Atlantic Wall.
